L'Oreal Never Lacque-ing & The Matte Velvet Nail Lacquer Reviews, Photos, Swatches
L’Oreal Never Lacque-ing Nail Lacquer
L’Oreal Never Lacque-ing Nail Lacquer ($5.99 for 0.39 fl. oz.) is a gray-tinged, light beige with a cream finish. This was a rather streaky polish, and the best application results were with three coats–two thinner coats and then one really thick coat at the end, though drying time was quite long with that method. I applied two coats on my pinky and middle fingers, and three coats on my index and ring fingers in the swatches. I normally get a week of wear out of L’Oreal’s lacquers. Rescue Beauty Lounge Thank You (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. MAC Endless Night (LE, $16.00) is darker. Essie Sand Tropez (LE, $8.00) is darker. Cult Nails Let’s Get Dirty (P, $12.00) is darker, rubber finish. See comparison swatches.
L’Oreal The Matte Velvet Nail Lacquer ($5.99 for 0.39 fl. oz.) is a mattifying top coat. It mattifies any color you apply it over, and it does so quickly, easily, and without trouble. If you dig the matte nail trend, I highly recommend picking up a mattifying top coat, as it makes any color you already have into a matte finish, and the wear is substantially longer! Though L’Oreal’s matte nail color formula chips away within a day on me, the mattifying top coat over a L’Oreal polish lasts almost a week with minor tip wear but no chipping. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and I found one thin-to-medium coat perfect for getting a streak-free matte finish.

Wow, I love the mani you came up with! I can’t decide if I like it more with the matte top coat or otherwise. It’s cool both ways!
I really like the matte glitter concept!
Have you tried Essie’s Matte About You top coat? If so, how would this compare?
Sorry, I don’t think I have!
Very delicate and soft, I like the color a lot. Too bad you have to layer it so much.
I loved the color, too, and I really wished the application had been better!
I saw the display for these this morning! I was tempted to get the flakie topcoat, but I think I’ll check some reviews first. While Never Lacque-ing looks lovely when its opaque, there are other similar shades that reach full opacity without the long drying time or three coats. And I absolutely LOVE matte top coats over glitter!
I’ve liked the top coats so far!
Whoo, glad I dodged a bullet with Never Lacque-ing. Shame, too – such a pretty color! I find that L’Oreal polishes do tend to struggle with creamy or light colors. Their best shades are usually the brights and darks. The Cult Nails one is quite lovely, though, so I’ll have to take it into consideration. 🙂
Cult Nails = amazing!!
I really like this color – but I agree about the application. However, last night I just bought the holographic top coat and the black and silver bar top coat and cannot wait to try them. I really like L’Oreal polishes overall.
The top coats have been pretty good so far!
The two light shades are definitely “me” colors
Let me know if you end up checking ’em out, Catherine!
Never Lacque-ing sure as hell is lacking somethin’…ah, the irony! LOL! 🙂
LOL!
I love this color! I have to keep many coats of polish on at all times or my nails break, so I do have tons of polish and this is my favorite nude shade
So glad it works out for you, Rachael! 😀
