Natasha Denona Triochrome Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Natasha Denona Triochrome 15-Pan Eyeshadow Palette

Triochrome

Natasha Denona Triochrome 15-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($129.00 for 1.2 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that’s centered around three, Multichrome eyeshadows (the third column!). The palette contains 12 matte eyeshadows and three Multichrome eyeshadows, which had varying degrees of sheen–from low-level pearl to soft metallic.

The matte eyeshadows had semi-opaque to opaque, buildable pigmentation with lightly powdery, though blendable, consistencies; they were less substantial and a bit thinner compared to the brand’s matte formula, generally. Scarab had the strongest sheen and strongest multichromatic shift of the three Multichromes; Kinetic was the least impressive as far as shift went (I could barely see it on my arm, let alone on my lid!) and seemed more prone to fading in a way I haven’t seen from a Natasha Denona eyeshadow in years. Color Flip was somewhere in-between with a noticeable shift but the subtler sheen seemed to reduce the shift to being similarly subtle applied.

Natasha Denona Scrap (339CM) Creamy Matte Eye Shadow

Scrap (339CM)

Scrap (339CM) is a faded, darker olive green with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation paired with a soft, blendable texture, though it was a bit thinner and lightly powdery compared to most of the brand’s more recent matte releases. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

-

The majority of the brand's eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they're applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.

Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted--it is a bit more yielding now.

Natasha Denona Scarab (341MC) Multichrome Eye Shadow

Scarab (341MC)

Scarab (341MC) is a rich, brighter chartreuse green that shifted to warmer, more golden green and deeper, cooler emerald green. It had a subtle, metallic sheen that was the most intense in finish and shift from the three multichrome shades in the palette. The eyeshadow had a soft, lightly creamy texture that was moderately dense but not thick or too firmly-pressed into the pan. It had rich color payoff that adhered well to bare skin and blended out well. This shade stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Vert (343CM) is a light-medium, greenish-mustard with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that was a smidgen dusty in the pan but had great adhesion and blendability without losing its opacity. Manganese (345CM)

Manganese (345CM) is a muted, medium purple with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color payoff with a soft, slightly thinner and lightly powdery consistency. It applied evenly, but there was some dryness present, so it did not sit as well as other shades in the palette. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Natasha Denona Kinetic (346MC) Multichrome Eye Shadow

Kinetic (346MC)

Kinetic (346MC) is a muted, medium purple with a more low-sheen, pearl-like finish most of the time; it shifted subtly to warmer, pinky-purple and olive green. I just wasn’t able to see much of a multichrome effect on the lid; there was a subtle effect swatched on my arm with enough contortion.

It had a weak multichrome finish, and it seemed to get duller in finish/intensity after six hours of wear, which was unusual for a Natasha Denona metallic shade (though nowhere near as metallic as the brand’s typical shimmer shades). It had opaque color coverage with a smooth, lightly emollient texture that was thin and blendable.

Redox (347CM)

Redox (347CM) is a muted, grayish-lavender with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It applied slightly darker than it appeared in the pan. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable but had some powderiness present that resulted in the color having light fallout. It had mostly opaque color coverage that could be built up with a second layer. This shade stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Color Flip (351MC)

Color Flip (351MC) has a stronger, warmer plum hue that shifted to warmer, olive green to deeper, cooler emerald green. It had a soft, more pearl-like sheen–not nearly as metallic as most of the brand’s shimmers (more for reference than a pro or con!).

The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable with a moderately-dense feel, but it wasn’t overly thick. The eyeshadow had opaque pigmentation in a single layer that wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Natasha Denona Garmon (352CM) Creamy Matte Eye Shadow

Garmon (352CM)

Garmon (352CM) is a muted, medium plummy-brown with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that could be built up to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was soft, silky, and blendable, but it was somewhat powdery and more prone to fallout/sheering out. It lasted decently for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Natasha Denona Diatonic (353CM) Creamy Matte Eye Shadow

Diatonic (353CM)

Diatonic (353CM) is a brighter, medium-dark coral with strong, warm orange undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer, which built up to full coverage with less than a second layer. The texture was soft, somewhat powdery, though it was blendable, but definitely thinner and not as velvety as other mattes from the brand. It lasted nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Thank you so much for getting this review up before the Rouge sale is over with, Christine! I swear, I don’t even begin to know how you managed to get this done in time.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

As for the palette….
Because the “multichrome” shades are so subtle in their shifts, and because I may actually like some of the matte shades even more, I’m going to instead get myself several of Clionadh or SG multichromes. Those are both just so much better than these three. I’m giving this palette a hard pass.

Sandy Avatar

Take care of yourself… *hugs* thank you for the reviews but don’t burnout. Hope you get some great sleep tonight!

As for the palette, I think I’ll pass unless it’s more than 20% off on sale. Scarab is beautiful though!

Wednesday Avatar

Your efforts are appreciated, Christine! I’m amazed you got the review in under the wire and the dupes were critical to my decision process on this one. Please get some sleep soon. I had a wicked sleep last night and had the wildest epic totally gender-bending dream.. sleep highly reccommended!

Kira Avatar

Really pretty palette to look at! I have dupes for my favorite mattes in the palette, so I am good. I find that I rarely use pastel type shades. Wish she would have done this in the smaller format — I think that’s a really good format for almost all consumers. If she comes out with a mini for this I would be interested!

Totally beautiful looks you’ve created here!

brendacr1 Avatar

Christine, you have gone above and beyond for us and I thank you, your dedication is immeasurable! The eye looks you have done are beautiful! I am really on the fence with this palette, I think with my Clinonadh shadows and the mattes I own I could pull off some really nice looks.

Erin Avatar

This is nowhere near the quality of Clionadh. I’m actually more attracted to the shade choices of the mattes than any of the metallics. For over 170 CAD, I’m definitely going to pass and continue giving my money to indie brands that have the multichrome formula perfected.

kjh Avatar

If my stash self-immolated and i could get only 5 palettes, this would be one. It’s incredibly versatile, yet easy to read/understand. it lends itself to so many approaches: tonal, multi, texture, even one and done. I think it’s bloody brilliant. The looks you did are grand, and really showcase this palette. As always, your work ethic continues to amaze me.

J Avatar

I’m not 100% sure this is going to work for me but I ordered it during the sale so I should find out soon! Glad to see it got a good review from you.

Monica Avatar

If anyone is interested, you can use the code NDXBOXY and get 25% off anything on the Natasha Denona website. That brings the price of the palette down to $96.75, plus they have free shipping. Where I live, there’s no tax charged either, so that saves you a good deal more than getting it from Sephora.

MichelleChefNYC Avatar

I was super excited when I saw this pop up on Sephora and then when I realized only 3 of the shades are actually “triochrome” and the rest are sort of odd color story matte’s I decided to pass on this. After seeing your review I am glad I did, even though the three looks you created here are STUNNING. I would rather put this money towards some of the Clionadh shadows, which are much more visually stunning, although it is nice to see more of these types of shades show up in mainstream palettes.

Lesley Avatar

How would you compare the quality of these mattes with the Tropic palette? I have that palette and while I still find them a joy to work with compared to other brands, they’re thinner and not as buttery/dreamy/’seamless’ as my other ND palettes.

This might be the first 15 pan palette I’ll skip unless heavily discounted, I find it strange and puzzling that she constantly experiments in the 0.08oz/pan big palettes. A lot of risk for the $$$ and sheer amount of product–for instance, I’d love if the Glam palette was full-sized.

Jane Avatar

This is like an answer to an unspoken prayer, as I was searching for a purple palette just a few days before it came out. It was such a surprise! That said, unless someone gives it to me as a gift, I can dupe seven shades over 85% and two more around 80%. So, if I can find the three duo-triochromes and the three colors I normally wouldn’t have Andradite, Naga and Vert (which I’m surprised I don’t have a dupe for since it’s a somewhat-muted green that I like) for les that $80 then there’s no purpose for me to purchase this one. Booooo hooooo! An “A-” rating would definitely have made it worth my while!

Courtney B Bandish Avatar

I’m not a fan of purples generally but I love olive greens. The only ND palette I own is metropolis which has plenty of them but I want this palette for Scarab..such a beautiful color. The looks you created are amazing and inspiring me to want to buy this palette since I lack purples. Totally unrelated but I’ve been wanting to buy the Hakuhodo J142 but I have the Sigma E35 which looks so similar. I was wondering in your opinion (if you’ve tried Sigma) if the quality is really that much better with Haukohodo? Just like some reassurance before I splurge?

Alison Avatar

I have simplified my beauty routine and did not know that this palette even existed, but it popped up and I came here to see a review. Right now it’s in my Sephora cart for the $25 off sale for Rouge. On the one hand, I’ve gotten ND palettes for a few shades and their fabulous formula– so I am thrilled this palette has two solid rows of green and purple, but wondering whether the formula change will disappoint, though your review suggests it’s workable. I also feel overwhelmed by Clionadh, plus what I’ve found is that the palettes assembled from singles tend to get buried in storage and less used. Even though I don’t care for the third row, it’s a novelty to have an ND palette with two rows of usable shades in favorable colors and the grunge undertones to some of the shades is also a plus. I am also on a no-buy of Viseart after learning that the designer took actions on social distancing and modeled them to others that I find disturbing. People’s health comes first for me. I had been considering their new palette, but won’t buy from them any more. This palette will give me the purples I want.
