NARS Trouville Nail Lacquer

NARS Trouville Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “seashell pink.” It’s a soft pink with a hint of coral and yellow undertones. It’s nearly opaque in two coats–under diffused flash, there’s faint visible nail line, but in studio lighting, I couldn’t tell it wasn’t 100% opaque. OCC Femme is a yellow-toned pink, but it’s a bit pinker and has shimmer. Chanel Mistral is also a yellow-toned pink but darker, pinker, and has shimmer. Chanel Morning is the closest in tone, but it’s darker.

The consistency of Trouville was just slightly thicker than ideal, but it applied fairly evenly and easily. Each coat takes a little longer to dry, and if you go too quickly, you risk pulling up the color of the first coat a bit.  I think this is a really lovely choice for spring and summer; it’s warm, breezy, and feminine without being too pastel or too bright.  I could see this working well on toes, too!  I’ve had excellent luck with NARS’ formula–it wears like iron and lasts a full seven days without chipping.

I’m not a nail polish girl, but this shade appeals to me. It’s girly, fresh, and reminds me of sunny days and pink lemonade.
By the way, what’s your favorite base coat and too coat? (This could be a blog question too.)

hi! i’ve been your follower since i got my MAC longwear lipglass a few days ago. i like your explicit analysis of the product of that post which really helps me to consider which item is worth to look into. anyways, how many coats did you apply and did you apply anything else beside the nail polish itself? your nails do look like manicures and the color looks amazing on them! 🙂

What a gorgeous, soft, romantic shade. It’s what I’ve been searching for, and thanks to you Christine, I’ve just placed my order! You’re the best!!

I absolutely love this colour! I like my pinks soft and warm-toned. This may even match one of my winter coats. The thing is I just got Cassi in the Zoya earth day exchange and was wondering if Trouville would be redundant? Nars is so much more expensive and I have limited means but Nars is quite often worth it (Dark Knight is amaaaaazing). So…is it different enough?

I bought this based on your review, and I would of given it a 2 or 2.5 on application. As you mention, in your review the formula is thicker and makes the polish longer to dry. I waited a timed 10 mins to apply a second coat, and that would still drag up the first coat making my nail look streaky. The index finger on your bottom photo was how all my nails looked or worse. I tried this polish with a base coat and without. I used Illamasqua base coat and even contemplated using my zoya base coat.  I started playing around with my troublesome colors in my nail polish collection, Load (Illamasqua)  and Loella (Illamasqua), to gain perspective on how finicky this polish is to apply. Trouville was the worst offender even though Loella is fair competition based on color and Load is a creamy white. OCC FEATHERED is an opaque white and it applies in a way a good application of color should go. Well after trying to find a reason of what I was doing wrong,  I settled with  applying  a very light third coat to get complete coverage.  It took forever to dry completely, and  my nails looked worse  than if I had stuck with a streaky first coat.  The color is gorgeous and I really played around with various applications and techniques to make it work, but this product is not an A in my book.  Since you are my ultimate go to make-up maven,  I would reconsider that grade. You know, when you find the time between reviewing 100009900 new products in your to be reviewed bin, cropping 3078 photos in your to be edited folder in photoshop, and organizing the ultimate wedding of your dreams, you should reconsider a review you prob made back in November of 2011. :-p
