NARS Silent Nude Blush

NARS Silent Nude Blush ($30.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “soft beige.” It’s a light-medium peachy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. Guerlain Clair / Brunettes (01) (P, $53.00) is more orange. Chanel Caresse (180) (LE, $45.00) is pinker, darker. Surratt Beauty Duchesse (P, $32.00) is lighter, more shimmery. Makeup Geek Smitten (P, $9.99) is more orange, brighter. MAC Bronzer (LE, $30.00) is similar. Sisley Paris Mango (3) (P, $85.00) is pinker, peachier. MAC Bareness (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, darker. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

You are being warned… the powder blushes in this collection represent a new formula. If you gasped, so did I as I was so surprised to see the words “new formula” in my email from NARS that I double-checked to confirm. The new formula is described as a “soft, silky texture with sheer, buildable matte color.” The texture is noticeably thinner and more powdery than most of the NARS blushes I’ve tried in the past while the powder seems to be pressed more firmly into the pan. It had semi-opaque color coverage at best, but it tended to apply semi-sheer. This is a shade best suited for light-medium and fairer skin tones, as it barely shows up on my medium skin. It applied evenly and didn’t look powdery or dry on my skin, though it might not be the case if you have dry patches on cheeks (my swatching arm is a bit drier and it caught a bit on the driest area). On me, it lasted for seven hours before fading.

That’s *exactly* how I felt withe MUFE eyeshadows, LOL! If it ain’t broke, don’t “fix” it… Of course, many brands do this, typically to make manufacturing more cost efficient (tarte, LORAC), while others try to “keep up” with other brands (Lancôme, Estee Lauder).

No kidding! “Don’t mess with what’s not broken”! Geez, I hope Nars doesn’t self-destruct. I am not sure if these are cost-cutting efforts or what. i just don’t get it. Nars summer collections have always been something I have looked forward too. I was really excited to see this. But the reviews totally changed it. The last several collections seem to have been not so great.

Another poor grade. What’s wrong with NARS? I think the quality of the collection is quite awful even if colors are beautiful.

Hi WWendy, sorry to intrude. Quick question: I know you seem to be well versed on skin care. i am in a bit of a transition period-trying to find an anti-aging regimine that is going to help my dry skin with some fine lines and mild sun damage. My derm has me trying retin-a again. I am trying to find a combination that will suit me. I hav

..Not sure what happened..it sent before I finished(not so quick, lol) sorry! Anyway, any ideas for a good , emollient moisturizer for dry skin. But that works well under makeup. I also am looking for an SPF product that is not super shiny or so mattte it cracks. I currently use Omorovicza’s Gold Rescue cream Am and PM (yep it is thick) over an oil. I have a lot of facial oils too. Can;t seem to find the perfect one. I just ordered the tarte maracuja one. Thinking abut trying Juno by Sunday Riley. For SS, I have many too-from mineral to physical.I had noticed in one post, you seemed to be pretty in the skin care area in and thought you may be able to point me in a direction to research. If not, that’s okay too! Thanks! Have a great weekend!

This “new” formula doesn’t sound like it’s an improvement. From the swatch it looks like it clings to dry patches on cheeks. I thought this was a face powder when I first saw the swatch – if you’re very fair skinned, I think you can just save some money, buy a drugstore powder that’s a few shades darker and get the same effect.

It’s definitely not up to quality level of their average blush, so I hope it is just a new, additional formula and not a replacement of the existing range (I don’t think it will be, since those are marketed as pigmented, and it’s odd to replace with a completely sheer formula!).

Formula change?! Please tell me Nars didn’t “fix” what wasn’t broken. I won’t be trying this blush because it would be pointless on my skin tone, but this doesn’t sound like good news.
