NARS New Order Highlighting Blush Review, Photos, Swatches

NARS New Order Highlighting Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “sheer highlighter with golden shimmer.” It’s a pale, cool-toned, blue-based pink with golden sparkle and a golden shimmer-sheen finish. MAC Veronica’s Blush is warmer, less sparkly. NARS Undress Me is a grayer pink and has silver sparkle (that is more like glitter in particle size).

Despite NARS’ great success with Albatross, their other Highlighting Blushes have a high dosage of sparkle and shimmer that doesn’t bind with the underlying powder/blush color, so a lot of the sparkle gets lost, looks unflattering on the skin, and sometimes travels for parts unknown. New Order has a powdery, almost gritty, texture, as a result of all the sparkle that just seems to sit on top at all times. If this had no sparkle but just a level of golden sheen, I think it would work better.

The pigmentation is as described–sheer–and will add some pink on lighter complexions (like a blush) while perhaps brightening on deeper complexions.  When it blends out, it’s mostly just sparkle/shimmer and the pink coloring fades away.  This shade wore six and a half hours, and then I only saw remnants of sparkle.  This is my second pan of New Order, and while the texture was still on the powdery side, it wasn’t nearly as dry as my original New Order.

I was thinking the same thing! Christine looks amazing (actually at this point I am getting jealous as I think she can pull off anything!), but on me this would be pore-city and probably grayish due to my skin tone.

I have this one and the color just does not show up on me at all. The glitter falls right off too. I should have returned it but now I can’t remember if I purchased it from Sephora or Beauty.com.

I love the color, and I could see it working for me, but the sparkles would just make my pores too visible…

I agree with your comment about Albatross, but I want to add Nico isn’t sparkly, either.

I own this blush and have had a completely different experience…I have very very fair skin though.
It gives me a perfect pink tint and sparkles a little, but nothing even close to glittery / disco-ball-ish… I expected a much higher rating on here, to be honest.

Christine, you must try NARS Nico blush. It’s even better than albatross. I don’t know where they sell it in America, what ever department store that carried Nars because I know only SOME sephora carry it :). But… It’s perfection.

Sorry if I missed this but I know you reviewed this before and was wondering if they reformulated it.. ? or what was the reason for the second review?

I think it translated beautifully here in the pictures Christine! But you’re the expert! =D

On a sidenote, is glitter bigger than sparkle, or vice versa?

What’s the correct order?
Glitter
Sparkle
Shimmer
Sheen
Glow

I’d say the order you listed is a good one from most obvious to least obvious.

I consider glitter to be bigger than sparkle, sparkle larger than shimmer. Sheen and glow are similar – the way I differentiate is that a sheen is more noticeable than a glow; like a product that gives you a sheen might not work all over, but usually a product that gives you a glow is subtle enough to use all over.

Of course, then there is micro-glitter, micro-shimmer! Micro-glitter being somewhere between glitter and sparkle (I would say micro-glitter is more prevalent/easier to distinguish between sparkle and glitter when in polish), and micro-shimmer is really when you can see the shimmer up-close in a macro shot but not necessarily from afar. Sometimes it translates to a frosted finish, sometimes a sheen, too.

This is Exactly why I just adore you! =D

Thanks for enlightening me so much more! You’re a rockstar, you know that right?!
