NARS Montparnasse Duo Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches
Montparnasse
NARS Montparnasse Duo Eyeshadow ($35.00 for 0.14 oz.) includes a warm gold and a medium, plummy brown. The left side was lovely–pigmented, easy to use, long-wearing–but the right side had a disastrous texture: stiff, firm, and required jabbing and pushing to get powder to dislodge from the surface. Given the price point and that it only contains two shades, I couldn’t recommend this one.

Montparnasse (Left)
Montparnasse (Left) is a bright, medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted sheen. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, slightly dense texture that wasn’t powdery nor was it too firmly packed in the pan, so it was still blendable and easy to work with. The eyeshadow wore well for eight hours before fading slightly.

Montparnasse (Right)
Montparnasse (Right) is a medium, plummy brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a very firm, stiff texture that was a struggle to use. I had to dig myb rush into the pan and jab at the surface to get enough product to transfer onto my brush. It applied unevenly to my lid and had to be buffed in quite a bit to make it look decent in practice. This shade lasted for seven hours on me.

Oh no….?
This is definitely one of those odd backwards cases of something swatching nicely, but then not being workable in practice. I’ll pass. And my wallet might thank me for a change!
This has been in my cart for a while. But seeing this I’m taking it out!!!
Oh dear, this could have been a lovely pairing. The eye look you got out of it is stunning though. Sounds like it is more a testament to your skill than the product.
Thank you, Deborah!
I’m glad I waited until this review to purchase. Money saved. 🙂
Oh Nars, you’ve done it again! One side of the duo is fabulous, and the other a disaster. Georgeous eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Oh man this is so sad! I got way excited after you reviewed the other Duo Eyeshadow from the collection, since that one reviewed way better than I was expecting. I thought this would be a pretty basic (read: hard to ruin) and practical little duo, so sad that it doesn’t swatch as prettily as it looks in the pan.
I was surprised… I did not expect THAT shade to be the real miss, lol!
In some ways, this is typical of NARS duos….they look great in the pans and seem to hold a lot of promise and then one or both will be dreadfully disappointing. When NARS nails it, as they often do, their duos are terrific but at these prices, they should all be terrific – C, D and F ratings are just unacceptable at this price point.
Pretty duo, but I’ve got dupes for both of the colors. So pass.
Well that sucks, I really liked this one. I guess money saved!
so pretty, especially in the look you put together christine.
too bad that the one shadow isn’t very easy to work with – i’m glad i read your review…there are so many other nice items on the market to focus one’s attention!
thank you!
No problem, Aradhana! xo
