NARS Mauritanie Matte Multiple Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS Mauritanie Matte Multiple
Mauritanie is no longer being released due to production issues. NARS suggests trying Na Pali Coast in lieu of Mauritanie.
NARS Mauritanie Matte Multiple ($39.00 for 0.26 oz.) is described as a “strawberry red.” It’s a brightened, copper-orange with warm, rusty red undertones and a semi-matte finish. NARS Exumas (P, $39.00) is lighter. Make Up For Ever #420 HD Blush (P, $26.00) is lighter. MAC Bad Girl Gone Good (LE, $21.00) is more orange, powder. theBalm Swiss Dot (P, $22.00) is brighter, powder. NARS Liberte ($29.00) is a powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes. On lips, it looks even more matte and has a lighter, less reddish tone. If you’re trying to replicate the color, here are some comparison swatches.
The Matte Multiple formula can be used dry or wet (dry for more opaque color, wet for sheerer color) on lips and cheeks. Mauritanie is a new and limited edition shade from the fall collection. There’s certainly no shortage of pigment in this shade–it’s incredibly rich and yields one-stroke full color coverage. The consistency is smooth and velvety (feels like a silicone-based primer almost). I like to apply it with a stippling brush, so I can control the intensity better, as a little goes a long way. On me, it lasted for seven and a half hours as a blush. The color lasted for five hours on lips, but it’s uncomfortable to wear on lips, as it clings to the surface, which both highlighted imperfections as well as made lips look drying. It was also quite drying on lips when worn.

It looks prettier on cheeks than on lips.
Xoxo
It is a lot nicer as a blush!
That is absolutely unique and beautiful! Glowing in it, Christine! <3
Thank you, Shipra!
I love it Christine, it looks amazing on you, I usually don’t like nars multiples, but this color is gorgeous on you. Warm tones flatter you so much. Thank you for your review.
My pleasure, Fabiola!
I do like that the cheek and lip products really work well together in this collection, but not shades I would personally reach for.
For the most part, they really do complement each other quite well!
YESSS!! Mine, mine, all mine! lol.
Enjoy!
The color looks so rich and intense. So beautiful!
Do you think it’s a shade you’ll try?
I’m so grateful for your dupes and swatches. I will buy Mac Mocha (or a cheaper option) instead to achieve a similar effect. The Nars Muttiples are just way overpriced 🙁
It is a lot of money to shell out for a cream product! 🙁
Hmm not exactly a summer colour in my opinion but it’s different( or maybe not since it has 4 dupes!!)! Im having a good week so far in the “makeup greed” department…I’ve been able to tell myself I can pass on most of the recent products I’ve seen online lol !!
It is for the fall collection 🙂
I’ve yet to find a lip/cheek product that performs well for both tasks, looks like this particular multiple is no exception. Awesome color for fall though.
It’s very rare!
The Naming Goblin strikes again!! 😛 Perhaps the strawberries in NZ are different, but I definitely think your description of the colour is more accurate, heh!
I wish the formula on these was more conducive to lip wear! This is my bias as a lipstick lover, perhaps, but if you’re gonna market it as a multiple…
I hear ya! I feel like brands need to commit to one or the other, and then maybe as a tip/trick mention, “looks great on lips!” but it’s not REALLY the purpose of it.
This looks quite flattering on you, Christine! I wasn’t expecting it to look as natural on the skin based on how it looks in the tube, but it looks great!
Thank you, Carolyn!
Ooh, that’s pretty. I have Exumas though, maybe they are too similar to justify getting this one, too? It looks nice on you, albeit a bit light. Thanks for the review!
If you go really light-handed on both, they may be too close – the heavier you go, the less similar they are!
That is a nice colour for the cheeks!
Glad ya liked it, Rikki!
I’m not a big fan of this color in general.
Oh, bummer!
I’ve never eaten a fruit that colour, let alone a strawberry.
LOL!
This one looks really nice.
Do you think it’s a shade you’d try, Bronwyn?
Gorgeous, but the price is insane.
Can you recommend a lip-dupe for this?
Hi Lisa!
I did – it’s linked above, but here is the link in case you missed it: http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery?sg=147300,142869,140769,111261,107359,169391&lips=1
Being drying on the lips, would it work like a lip pencil perhaps? Would a more hydrating lipstick or lipgloss counteract the dryness? Would it stop certain lipstick or lipgloss from bleeding?
I haven’t used it as such, so I really couldn’t tell you if it will act like a pencil! If you added something more hydrating, I’m sure it would help, though 🙂
Much better on cheeks! I won’t even bother swatching it… way too warm to be pulled off by me.
It definitely is a very warm shade!
Love it! But I do have Exumas.. Tip: simply add water and the vibrancy or sheerness is up to you! It’s a gotta see how it works best with you kind of thing. 🙂 lovely as usual, Strawberry Christine!
Thank you, Lotus!
