NARS Get Dirty & Overheated Lip Covers Review, Photos, Swatches

NARS Do Not Disturb Lip Cover

NARS Lip Cover ($28.00 for 0.28 fl. oz.) is a new, limited edition formula that is supposed to have “rich and lustrous” color with shine. They are a liquid lipstick, but they are not the type that dry down to a fully flat, transfer-free finish. They stay emollient and can slide around, and they transfer a lot–but they are also pretty pigmented so despite color being left on coffee cups and the like, a lot of hangs around. They’re comfortable to wear, lightly hydrating, but they wear no longer than four to five hours. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula. I didn’t have issues with the color feathering or bleeding on me, but the formula definitely has the slip that may make it a possibility for those who tend to experience that with their lip products!

NARS Get Dirty Lip Cover ($28.00 for 0.28 fl. oz.) is described as a “desert rose.” It’s a muted, medium peach with subtle, rosy tones and a natural sheen. It had opaque color payoff with a creamy, light-medium consistency that applied evenly to the lips, but there was some emphasis of lip lines. It was comfortable to wear, lightly hydrating, and non-tacky. The color lasted for four hours. ColourPop Peppermint (LE, $7.00) is lighter, cooler, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Naked Proof (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Rayezor (LE, $7.00) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). Bite Beauty Caramel (DC, $28.00) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Naked 2 (DC, $22.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Smashbox Bad B (P, $24.00) is cooler (85% similar). Tarte Skinny Dip (P, $22.00) is lighter, less glossy (85% similar). Givenchy Beige Mousseline (101) (P, $36.00) is lighter (80% similar). YSL Coral Plume (79) (P, $38.00) is more shimmery, darker, less pigmented (80% similar). NARS Overheated Lip Cover ($28.00 for 0.28 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep dusty rose.” It’s a muted, medium peachy-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a glossy shine. This shade had the most slip of the four shades, which also made it appear the glossiest–the texture was a little thinner and watery. It had good coverage, though, but it seemed to move more even when just talking and I noticed a little color on my teeth even after an hour or two of wear. It lasted for four hours in total. Maybelline Touchable Taupe (940) (P, $7.49) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Impulsive (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Chocolate Honey (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Marion (DC, $18.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Too Faced Melted Chihuahua (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Bite Beauty Honeycomb (DC, $26.00) is lighter, less glossy (85% similar). I’m not sure how I feel about the recent popularity of liquid lipsticks that aren’t matte/don’t dry down…. The thing I like most about matte liquid lipsticks is that I don’t get my lipstick all over everything!! These are beautiful colors, but I’m not sure I’ll like the formula. I’ll have to go try it on and wear it around a while. I have an Ofra liquid lipstick which is matte, but similar in that it doesn’t completely dry down. It’s not my favorite; it gets everywhere! I also skipped on the new colourpop satin liquid lipsticks, even though Tansy continues to catch my eye.

Just speaking personally, I’m not a big fan of the way totally flat, matte lipsticks feel or even look on my lips. I have, though, always loved glossier, high coverage color, like really pigmented lipgloss. What’s neat about liquid lipsticks is that you get the opacity and evenness more associated with lipstick but some of the shine of a gloss. So for me, it’s a very different product (not an either/or thing, nor a replacement of) – it’s like matte eyeshadow vs. frost eyeshadow, yes they are both powder, but they are more different than they are similar in effect.

I think you may like the Ultra Satins IF you are unhappy at all with the general feeling of ones that dry down, as they are more of a hybrid of the two types – I get very little transfer with the Ultra Satins over time; about as much or possibly less than a standard matte lipstick (traditional, bullet-style).

Christine, are they made in Japan? Is this true that NARS is owned by Shiseido? None of these matter too much, but I just wonder. Thank you always!

Hi Yoon_makeupbunny, I’m from Japan and I can confirm that NARS is owned by Shiseido since 2000. It is officially stated on Shiseido’s website (in Japanese). About the actual products, they confirm that at least 2 of their laboratories make NARS products: one in Japan and another in Vietnam. It is rumoured that the skincare range is made in Japan, but I don’t think Shiseido officially states anything specific. Hope this helps!

Christine, these remind me of the Mirenesse liiquid lipsticks. The slide around. . . a bit too much in fact The trasfer so much if you are drinking something it ends u all over your face!!!! LOL! Mirenesse DOES make the MOSE COMFORTABLE non-drying LIQUID MATTE lipstick that I have found on the market. If you can get you hands on one, you should give them a try!

Christine, how do you like the Maestro Glow? You may have talked about it already…I have read reviews saying it was too sheer. I like a lighter coverage especially for summer. Anyone’s thoughts are appreciated…thanks! I love the new Lip Covers and the whole concept of not a completely dry matte lip!

I love it! applied with fingers it is light coverage but with a brush, I get medium + coverage. Typically I’m NW20 from MAC, but I bought 5.5 in Maestro Glow.

These both look terrific with your eye/face choices. Rachel: it’s far more in the rearview mirror for me, for sure! The only overheated I get is at my night job, where it’s the big M all over again. Melts the makeup, boo!

I love the look of these plus because they are from Nars which I LOVE then I have to get my hands on them! Don’t know which colour to go for!

I used to work for NARS a few years ago. At that time, it was still made by Sheiseido.

I’ll try these because I’ll always feel a loyalty to them however, I have a very strong preference for tradional lipstick in bullet form. For me personally, the texture of liquids is odd. The concept is odd too.
