Conquest

NARS Conquest Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer ($26.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a bright, medium pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, but I felt like the applicator actually over-applied the product so the texture felt a bit heavier and a little closer to glue-like, though not quite. I was able to spread the color well across my lips, and there was very little settling into my lip lines (which wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance), but there were slight “bubbles” across my lips where I could see through the coverage. I had to be careful getting this on my teeth, too, as it took awhile before that stopped happening. The gloss lasted well for five hours and was lightly moisturizing.

Formula Overview

$26.00/0.17 oz. - $152.94 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "patent shine" and "high-octane color," which is further translated into "mirror-like shine" and "intense color" and has a "moisturizing feel." The applicator is made with two distinct sides; one side "features a reservoir to deposit the ideal amount of color" (it's slightly indented) and the other side "evenly distributes the formula." I actually felt that the applicator often over-applied the product, and I'd expect someone with thinner lips may find they need to wipe some off prior to applying to their lips.

The texture was plush, moderate in thickness but lighter weight (not heavy but I knew I was wearing gloss) and had light to moderate tackiness, which became more noticeable over time. I felt that the shimmery shades applied the best--more even, better coverage, and sat well on my lips--while the cream shades were inconsistent though often quite pigmented. The lighter cream shades (like Santo Domingo) almost appeared bubbled on my lips, not streaky or uneven per se, but the finish wasn't as flattering or as smooth as it was for deeper, richer hues (like Red District). Both finishes were very shiny--dare I say, mirror-like!--and glossy.

Most shades were pigmented, and the majority lasted at least four hours with some lasting as long as six hours on me. The formula was comfortable to wear and lightly to moderately hydrating over time. They were scented with something sweet and syrupy, not typical vanilla, but didn't seem to have a discernible taste to me.

Everglades

NARS Everglades Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer ($26.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a deep black with warm, brown undertones and dirty gold pearl. It was hard to replicate this shade, as the gloss format paired with the shimmer made it much more unique within what I’ve seen. The texture was smooth, lightly tacky, but spreadable and fairly easy to apply given how dark the color was. It had good pigmentation, though it wasn’t opaque, that stayed on well for five and a half hours and felt hydrating over time.

Mississippi

NARS Mississippi Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer ($26.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a rich plum with cool, pink undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff in a single layer, but the slightly heavier, thicker texture did not make a second layer comfortable or that manageable (too much movement and product on the lips). The gloss was moderately tacky, especially after an hour or two of wear, but I felt like it was comfortable to wear overall. This shade wore well for five and a half hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

Conquest is the kind of color I stay far, far away from. [shudder] Looks like it wears well, though.

Everglades and Mississippi are stunning — Everglades especially; can’t stop looking at it.

WOW! Everglades made me do a double take! And you’re absolutely right, this is a beautiful and unique shade! I wouldn’t even know how to pull this off but there it goes on my wishlist! 🙂
