NARS Spring 2013: Dressed to Kill

NARS Dressed to Kill Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “fuchsia rose with gold shimmer.” It’s a subtly pink-tinged rosy-red with a dusting of gold sparkle. It’s just barely cool-toned; it almost reads neutral to neutral-warm against my warmer complexion. I suspect it will look a bit pinker against cooler complexions. shu uemura Rouge Luster is warmer. Giorgio Armani #406 is redder. Dior Nocturne is pinker, less red.

The texture of this is lightly creamy, and it glides on fairly easily and smoothly, but there is a noticeable texture from the gold sparkle. It provided full color coverage, and the color lasted six hours and left a pinky-berry stain behind for another hour or so. The formula was neither drying nor hydrating, but it was comfortable to wear for the entire time I wore it. I didn’t have any problems with the color feathering or bleeding. There was no distinguishable scent or flavor. If you like the idea of a muted, rosy red, you’ll like Dressed to Kill. It’s bright enough that it’s still a bolder color choice, but it’s not as bold or as bright as your traditional red.

Nothing against Nars since I used to buy the its makeup…but it is a poor choice of words…given the connotation of the meaning of “dressed to kill” due to recent shootings in public places…and especially….all too funny since I posted something last week and that reference was deleted.

It was likely named well before the events you’ve refernced, and given the fact one of the inspirations for NARS cosmetic names are classic films, that’s the likely source. There was a film with this title many years ago, starring Angie Dickinson, and in the movie she didn’t use guns.

My thoughts exactly.
NARS seems quite the movie enthusiast (based on previous product names), so this is probably named after one of the movies called “Dressed to Kill”.
Also I read somewhere that he sometimes comes up with the nameq then work to imagine the colors. And collections are thought out / created long before they’re released.

It’s entirely possible this is my monitor but from here this looks warm-toned on you. I’ll have to compare when I get home, or check on my phone to see if I get a different result 🙂 As it stands now I don’t think it’s the right shade for me, though.

NARS cosmetics are designed to pull tones from an individuals natural coloring, which could be why this is pulling warm on Christine. I’m not sure how true that is, as I’m extremely neutral, but I’ve read it in several places. If your coloring is cooler, it’s possible it can look very different on you. If it’s a shade you feel drawn to, I’d recommend taking a look in person.

i realize I’m replying to this two and a half months later, but! I saw this in Sephora tonight and when I swatched it, I really liked how it looked against my skintone. Couldn’t remember the review or what I’d said, so I picked it up, and I actually like it a *lot* on me. It’s much cooler on my lips than it shows on Christine, and it suits my fair coloring/dark hair very well. It’s my first NARS lipstick, and so far I’m impressed. Just wish it was a bit more hydrating.

Very pretty color. But I really just popped on to say I’m totally diggin’ your brow lately, Christine! You’re making slight changes, right? (Or am I crazy? LOL) I feel like they’re still a very full brow (which I love) but slighty more refined. I like it! 🙂

I think this may be a nice “everyday” shade for me. I was expecting something more pink based on the description. This would look amazing with the blush… Okay, that’s *two* items from this collection!

Amazing. The same lipstick looked so much more purple/plum on Karen from Makeup and Beauty Blog.

I’m still learning about how undertones influence makeup.

I love it! I think it may wind up on the list. *sigh* NARS always sucker punches my wallet with every collection. Every time I cross something off the list, I wind up adding something new from them.

hi …. ive never really been able to pull off bright or red lipsticks … are there any rules when applying make up ( like blush color or eye make up ). .. ex: if wearing a Red Lipstick like this Nars Dressed to kill – should i be wearing a more red toned blush to match ? or more neutral ? or more pink ?
ive been searching your site for the last couple weeks and i love how great you look in all colors especially this one.
how do you make your lips work for you everytime ?!?
