NARS Dressed to Kill Lipstick
NARS Spring 2013: Dressed to Kill
NARS Dressed to Kill Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “fuchsia rose with gold shimmer.” It’s a subtly pink-tinged rosy-red with a dusting of gold sparkle. It’s just barely cool-toned; it almost reads neutral to neutral-warm against my warmer complexion. I suspect it will look a bit pinker against cooler complexions. shu uemura Rouge Luster is warmer. Giorgio Armani #406 is redder. Dior Nocturne is pinker, less red.
The texture of this is lightly creamy, and it glides on fairly easily and smoothly, but there is a noticeable texture from the gold sparkle. It provided full color coverage, and the color lasted six hours and left a pinky-berry stain behind for another hour or so. The formula was neither drying nor hydrating, but it was comfortable to wear for the entire time I wore it. I didn’t have any problems with the color feathering or bleeding. There was no distinguishable scent or flavor. If you like the idea of a muted, rosy red, you’ll like Dressed to Kill. It’s bright enough that it’s still a bolder color choice, but it’s not as bold or as bright as your traditional red.

Beautiful color,but it’s such a fall shade!
Nothing against Nars since I used to buy the its makeup…but it is a poor choice of words…given the connotation of the meaning of “dressed to kill” due to recent shootings in public places…and especially….all too funny since I posted something last week and that reference was deleted.
It was likely named well before the events you’ve refernced, and given the fact one of the inspirations for NARS cosmetic names are classic films, that’s the likely source. There was a film with this title many years ago, starring Angie Dickinson, and in the movie she didn’t use guns.
My thoughts exactly.
NARS seems quite the movie enthusiast (based on previous product names), so this is probably named after one of the movies called “Dressed to Kill”.
Also I read somewhere that he sometimes comes up with the nameq then work to imagine the colors. And collections are thought out / created long before they’re released.
I actually thought this reference might have been for the Eddie Izzard show, but the movie’s probably a better bet.
LOL!! I thought the same thing, no joke!! 😛
gorgeous on you!
wow, gorgeous!
It’s entirely possible this is my monitor but from here this looks warm-toned on you. I’ll have to compare when I get home, or check on my phone to see if I get a different result 🙂 As it stands now I don’t think it’s the right shade for me, though.
NARS cosmetics are designed to pull tones from an individuals natural coloring, which could be why this is pulling warm on Christine. I’m not sure how true that is, as I’m extremely neutral, but I’ve read it in several places. If your coloring is cooler, it’s possible it can look very different on you. If it’s a shade you feel drawn to, I’d recommend taking a look in person.
i realize I’m replying to this two and a half months later, but! I saw this in Sephora tonight and when I swatched it, I really liked how it looked against my skintone. Couldn’t remember the review or what I’d said, so I picked it up, and I actually like it a *lot* on me. It’s much cooler on my lips than it shows on Christine, and it suits my fair coloring/dark hair very well. It’s my first NARS lipstick, and so far I’m impressed. Just wish it was a bit more hydrating.
Do I need another red lipstick?!? This looks so nice!! It reminds me of a cooler ruby woo?!
Very pretty color. But I really just popped on to say I’m totally diggin’ your brow lately, Christine! You’re making slight changes, right? (Or am I crazy? LOL) I feel like they’re still a very full brow (which I love) but slighty more refined. I like it! 🙂
They’re the same! I haven’t changed the shape at all.
I was just going to comment the same! Is it the new MAC Fluidline for brows you’re using?
I’m using MAC Espresso in these 🙂
Oh. Oh my.
Y e s please.
I love it. Too bad the formula is not working for me. The sigh!
Hey there – I’v noticed you have done nearly the entire collection. I am really quite interested in the lip pencil in the rose gold color, I was wondering if you were going to review that?
I think this may be a nice “everyday” shade for me. I was expecting something more pink based on the description. This would look amazing with the blush… Okay, that’s *two* items from this collection!
Your cheeks have a gorgeous glow. Is that from Wulong Meteorites or something else?
NARS Seduction Blush is on cheeks! I didn’t wear Wulong at all in these photos 🙂
This is PERFECT, holy crap!
Amazing. The same lipstick looked so much more purple/plum on Karen from Makeup and Beauty Blog.
I’m still learning about how undertones influence makeup.
How does this compare to NARS lipstick in Christina?
Much redder + warmer! http://www.temptalia.com/nars-christina-lipstick-review-photos-swatches
I love it! I think it may wind up on the list. *sigh* NARS always sucker punches my wallet with every collection. Every time I cross something off the list, I wind up adding something new from them.
Dios mÃo, me encanta!! Que color tan bonito y favorito, se va directo a la lista de deseos 😀
Wow, this looks really flattering on you, Christine. Like a really wearable red, even though it’s got those rosy tones to it. So pretty.
Ahh This is beautiful!
Looks stunning on you too!
I wish there were more affordable dupes for this! Oh well, thanks for showing the color 🙂
Christine, is this close to Guerlain Grenade?
Grenade is a bit rosier 🙂
Beautiful lipstick lovely pigmentation. I wounder if it would go well with Nars crazed or mounia?
hi …. ive never really been able to pull off bright or red lipsticks … are there any rules when applying make up ( like blush color or eye make up ). .. ex: if wearing a Red Lipstick like this Nars Dressed to kill – should i be wearing a more red toned blush to match ? or more neutral ? or more pink ?
ive been searching your site for the last couple weeks and i love how great you look in all colors especially this one.
how do you make your lips work for you everytime ?!?
Hi Sherri!
It really just depends on what you like – for a subtler look, opt for something more neutral on cheeks. For something more dramatic, you could do a plummy shade! A lot of it comes with practice 🙂
Thank you!
one more question ? i need help lol ! …. i have fair/medium skin (pink with blue undertones)…. so i know orange/beige’s dont suit me … could you please please suggest a shade of red that maybe might look good (im blonde too)… i know berry colors were suggested… but i’d love to know what you would think/suggest or refer.
p.s.: i absolutely love your site and i think your absolutely stunning… so advice coming from you is Truly Appreciated ! … Sherri
Have you tried something like NARS Dragon Girl?
Thank you, Sherri!
Christine, can you compare it to Mac’s Apres Chic lipstick? Thank you!
Apres Chic is warmer, more orange-toned, not really pink – http://www.temptalia.com/mac-apres-chic-lipsticks-reviews-photos-swatches
Thank you so much!
How does it compare to NARS Afghan Red?thank you!
Afghan Red is redder!
