Douro
NARS Douro Eyeshadow (2018) ($19.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a bright, medium yellow with a mostly matte finish. It had rich color coverage with a soft, slightly powdery texture that applied fairly evenly to bare skin, but it seemed to be more reactive to the natural oils on my skin as it darkened slightly. It was better over an eyeshadow primer, which helped it adhere better and kept it closer to the pan color. It was blendable and did not have fallout. The color lasted well for seven and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview
$19.00/0.04 oz. - $475.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "rich, high-impact color" that is "lightweight" and has "increased blendability." Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks "melted" on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.
Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS' eyeshadows for years and didn't change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.
Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

Persia
NARS Persia Eyeshadow (2018) ($19.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep orange with warm, red undertones and a matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that wasn’t powdery but was denser and more substantial–the texture was unlike every other matte shade in the range. In the previous formulation, it was one of the brand’s best eyeshadows, and it remains such in the updated formula–if all the mattes were like this, these would fly off the shelves. The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin, blended out easily, and wore well for eight and a half hours.

Fatale
NARS Fatale Eyeshadow (2018) ($19.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a bright, pinky-red with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the eyeshadow felt soft, velvety, and smooth without being dusty or powdery. It applied evenly to my lid and blended out without difficulty. This shade stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours on me.

Domination
NARS Domination Eyeshadow (2018) ($19.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation paired with a slightly thinner, drier texture. The eyeshadow remained blendable, though, so it wasn’t a challenge to work with it even if it needed to be layered for true, opaque coverage. It lasted for just over seven and a half hours on me.

Night Star
NARS Night Star Eyeshadow (2018) ($19.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a light beige with warm, yellow undertones and flecks of chunky sparkle strewn throughout. The sparkles were a waste of time–I saw them in the pan, but as soon as I applied and blended the edges of the eyeshadow, they disappeared or dropped below my lid. The consistency was soft, slightly powdery, but blendable and fairly easy to use and yielded mostly opaque coverage (though it sheered out a bit). It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading a bit.

Lunar
NARS Lunar Hardwired Eyeshadow (2018) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium lavender with warm, pinky undertones and flecks of multi-colored sparkle. Applied dry, it had semi-sheer coverage and some fallout when applied to bare skin and blended out. Applied with a dampened brush, it had semi-opaque coverage that didn’t have fallout and applied more evenly. The eyeshadow stayed on well for seven hours dry and eight hours dampened but had some fallout over time.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.04 oz. - $550.00 Per Ounce
The formula "can be applied dry or with a dampened brush for stronger intensity." It is a very glittery formula, and naturally, it performed significantly better when used with a dampened brush or an adhesive base.
Applied dry, they were typically sheer to semi-sheer with light to moderate fallout when blended out on my lid. They lasted between five and seven hours with light to moderate fallout. Applied wet, they were typically semi-opaque to opaque with minimal fallout when blended out and minimal to slight fallout during wear (about eight hours).
The consistency was soft, slightly drier/chunkier, but they the base colors were blendable and easy enough to use. I did find that they applied decently over primer when applied dry compared to on bare skin.

The brights are really nice. I’m impressed they got such a good yellow matte.
Me too!
Of these all, it is Fatale that has my pulse quickening! Not *too* red, but just red enough to make it work. In other words, not quite Sugarpill Love+, but enough for me!
Fatale is a nice one 🙂
I’ll never understand why brands continue to put those waste-of-time sparkles in eyeshadows!
I’m glad Persia came through the reformulation unscathed, but glad I have the version that’s a tinge darker.
Wish I understood why all the mattes aren’t like Persia!
Really bright (mostly) shades and generally a pretty good ratings too. I guess if you only wanted to try a shade, instead of buying a whole palette of these colours, it would be a good idea.
Very good point, Genevieve!
I own Nars Persia and love it in my crease. Been eyeing Douro and have it in my Nars cart. But thanks to Temptalia I see I have 2 dupes!
I really like colorful mattes like these. Fatale is my favorite, and it seems like it’s a fairly uncommon shade with the relative lack of dupes.
I’m really loving the eyeshadow look you created here.
