NARS Coeur Sucre Larger Than Life Lipgloss
NARS Coeur Sucre Larger Than Life Lipgloss
NARS Coeur Sucre Larger Than Life Lipgloss ($26.00 for 0.19 fl. oz.) is described as a “shimmering vibrant pink.” It’s a medium cotton candy pink with blue undertones and a silver-white micro-glitter/shimmer. I couldn’t think of too many shades that came close to this. MAC Vanity Fair is much lighter and has no shimmer (more like a liquid lipstick formula). NARS Angelika would be much closer, except it’s not as opaque and applies fairly streaky. MAC Sassy Lassy is darker and brighter.
The Larger Than Life formula is designed to give “intense color” with “brilliant shine” while being long-wearing. It also has moisturizing ingredients and “natural lip enhancers” that will plump lips. The consistency of Coeur Sucre isn’t too thick or too thin, and it’s not a gloss I’d call lightweight, but it doesn’t feel thick and goopy either. It has a gel-like texture initially, which is non-sticky, but after a half hour or so, it delivers a tackiness that gets rather sticky after an hour and a half (much as I experienced with Giorgio Armani Gloss d’Armani). It delivers semi-opaque color and applies surprisingly evenly for a gloss in this color–there is some minor settling into lip lines that is barely noticeable because of the high-shine finish.
Coeur Sucre wore for five and a half hours, which is longer than the average gloss wears (three to four hours; as little as two for lighter shades).  I found the formula to be hydrating–sometimes when you wear just gloss all day long, your lips can easily show signs of dehydration, but even after twelve hours of wearing the Larger Than Life formula, my lips felt lush and lovely.  I don’t see (or feel!) any plumping effect; the glossy shine does give lips a larger, more luminous appearance.
Here is what I loathe about this product–and I don’t use the word lightly–the applicator. It is like applying lipgloss with a toothpick, or nearly so. It’s just absolutely miniscule, and if you have very thin lips, I think this may be the applicator you’ve been looking for, but even you may find it takes several pumps of gloss to get enough product to cover your lips. I get that NARS is hoping this applicator will give you the precision you want, but it’s unnecessarily small. You can maneuver around the lip lines with something double the size. In order to cover my lips, I had to go back five times for color.

The formula sounds awesome, but wow, that applicator looks (and sounds) ridiculous!
I have the Nars Larger Than Life Lipgloss in Norma and I actually like the applicator,it allows you to apply this lipgloss very precise which I think is necessary because they’re more pigmented than the average lipgloss.
I agree. I own two of the larger than life lipglosses, and both are intense colors with a semi-thick formula. You waste nothing 😉
I wonder what they were thinking making that applicator so tiny! I love the colour, but yes it could be more intense, and I’m not too fond of the finish somehow.
I think it’s gorgeous, and would be nice layered over Schiap.
On my screen it looks a little fuchsia like, but on your lips its really pink. I’m always on look out for a good fuchsia lip gloss. I miss my Givenchy Pop Gloss in Pop Fuchsia and this NARS looked pretty much like a close match to Givenchy.
I hate applicators like that, but not a big deal since I rarely use the applicator from the actual product. I like this color, so I’ll probably check it out! It looks great on you, btw!
Oh my, that applicator really is a turn-off. I love the color but I’d never pay that much for a gloss that’s a hassle to apply.
The color is gorgeous and the formula sounds awesome. That applicator is unbelievable– it seems as though it would take forever to apply!! I’m still tempted though– the color is just beautiful!
That is a really pretty color but the applicator would annoy me. Wonder why they did that?
The gloss is so pretty but the applicator is ridiculous!
That is the wimpiest lip gloss applicator I’ve ever seen. It’s almost as small as the testers where the sa’s cut off the real applicators! But the color is simply beautiful on you!
Oh that is such a cool name and a pretty color! It means Sugar Heart in French. Kinda matches.
How does it compare to MAC Style Packed from the Tour de Fabulous collection? In terms of color, texture, opacity and etc.
x
Nothing alike – Style Packed is more opaque, brighter, bluer-based; Lipglass is a completely different formula. http://www.temptalia.com/mac-tour-de-fabulous-lipglasses-review-photos-swatches-part-2
Good Lord. I glanced at these in Sephora today…would’ve taken a closer look if I knew the applicator is freaking minute! Pretty color, though.
Hi Christine,
how long would you say the shelf life for this gloss is? Just curious if it’s worth the investment, I would want it to last more than a year.
The advised shelf life is 6 months to a year.
Hi Christine- is the same shelf life true of unopened glosses-(ie.for instance when I buy back-ups of favorites- reason being I recently maxed out on 7 of Mac’s BUDDING LOVE LE lipglasses- am simply over the moon with color/texture/and finish!!
Shelf life typically is once you open it, so unopened glosses can last for much longer – probably 3-5 years.
Christine- You are the last word in professionalism and generous edification!! Really- thank you for your prompt response!
Ohhhh that applicator looks annoying!
Hi Christine, I completely agree with you about the applicator. It is so tiny and so hard on your lips. It’s terrible. They should fire whoever came up with it because I will not buy a Nars lipgloss until they change it.
nah, settles a lot, plus medium pink+shimmer=no
annoying applicator :/ why so lil?
It looks pretty on you! I like the fine shimmer. Great photos too.
I think if I liked the color enough, the microscopic applicator would be doable.
It’s not impossible, but it’s one of those nagging annoyances. I can deal, but I totally hate it, LOL!
This looks gorgous! I really want to try these Larger than Life lipglosses. A long-wear lipgloss that doesnt dry out your lips is always nice!
I do love this formula. Just have an issue with the applicator as well; oddly small.
I bought this a few months ago and love layering it over a Givenchy cotton candy pink lipstick to make it really pop (can’t remember the name!). Really like this gloss!!
