NARS Lipgloss – Sweet Dreams, Belize, Stolen Kisses, Risky Business, Supervixen, Istria
NARS Lipgloss – Sweet Dreams, Belize, Stolen Kisses, Risky Business, Supervixen, Istria

Belize is described as a “pink mauve with flecks of gold.” It’s a medium, muted rosy pink with a light dusting of gold sparkle and warm undertones. It had mostly opaque color coverage (you can barely make out my lip freckle), but there was enough translucency that if you have really pigmented lips, the shade might look somewhat different on your lips. This shade wore well for four hours on me. Urban Decay Flushed (P, $19.00) is less glossy, less shimmery. Maybelline Caramel Infused (065) (P, $8.99) is less shimmery. MAC Floating Lotus (LE, $20.00) is less pigmented, more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Stolen Kisses is described as a “sparkling caramel pink.” It’s a rosy, medium brown with fine pink shimmer and larger white sparkle. It had semi-opaque color coverage–similar to that of Belize–where some of the natural lip color peeks through. It lasted for four and a half hours on me. MAC Be Nice (P, $22.00) is lighter, sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Heart Shaped (308) (P, $28.00) is more shimmery, warmer. NARS Viva (LE, $26.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Risky Business is described as a “warm raspberry.” It’s a muted, coppery-red with pink and white shimmer. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, and it noticeably darkened the natural lip color and added a lot of shimmer. The application was mostly even, though I could slightly feel the texture of the shimmer. The color lasted for three and a half hours on me. MAC Flash of Flesh (LE, $15.00) is lighter. Dior Ambre Lumiere (227) (P, $29.50) is darker, warmer. Chanel Daydream (P, $29.50) is redder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Supervixen is described as a “sheer sparkling mauve.” It’s a warm-toned, medium-dark plummy brown with bronze shimmer. It had semi-sheer color payoff with plentiful shimmer. It lasted for three hours on me, though I didn’t notice the texture of the shimmer in this shade. Illamasqua Culminate (LE, $24.00) is warmer. Dior Etincelante (432) (P, $29.50) is more muted. Revlon Rosegold (DC, $7.49) is pinker. MAC Blessedly Rich (LE, $15.00) is darker. Dior Ambre Lumiere (227) (P, $29.50) is similar. Chanel Attirance (LE, $32.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Istria is described as a “pink glace.” It’s a light-medium, cool-toned pink with blue undertones and soft, white shimmer. It had semi-sheer color coverage that did not apply evenly, so it looked somewhat splotchy on the lips. It also settled into lip lines. The color wore well for three and a half hours on me. MAC Tender (P, $22.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Lovechild (P, $20.00) is less cool-toned. Urban Decay Obsessed (P, $19.00) is a touch lighter. NARS International Velvet (LE, $26.00) is lighter, less cool-toned. MAC Petite Indulgence (LE, $20.00) is darker. MAC Pagoda (LE, $20.00) is lighter. MAC Going Casual (LE, $20.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NARS Lipgloss ($26.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) has been reformulated, and the new formulation will launch on April 15th with 30 permanent shades–seven are new and permanent, 23 are shades that were available in the previous formula. NARS says the new formula is supposed to have “longer, more comfortable wear,” while being hydrating and smoothing with a “silky texture.” The texture is thin, somewhat tacky (the more shimmery shades seemed slightly tackier than the creamier ones), unscented (and no signs of a plastic, waxy, or crayon-like scent), with two to five hours of wear time, and is moderately hydrating. The formula is thinner and less sticky (5 or 6, compared to an 8 on the original formula, on a 10-point scale), and I found it more comfortable to wear overall. Note, the reformulated glosses are more expensive and contain less product.

I read somewhere that the reformulated glosses actually saw a decrease in the amount of product and got hit with a price increase. Is that really the case or just a rumor?

they are sooo sticky so i don’t know why anyone would buy them. i’m obsessed with some things from nars but their eye shadow crayons and lip glosses are awful. you said these are less sticky but i’ll have to wait and see.

stolen kisses is a gorgeous shade but the act of stealing kisses is in fact, sexual assault. not buying it.
