NARS Andromeda, Callisto, Dione, & Himalia Dual Intensity Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
NARS Andromeda Dual Intensity Eyeshadow
Here are the next four shades I tested of NARS’ new eyeshadow formula, which launches on July 1st. Make sure to check out part one for the first four shades I reviewed as well as a general overview of the formula.
NARS Andromeda Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “alabaster.” It’s a warm ivory with a golden frosted shimmer-sheen. It’s more of a light beige than white. Applied dry, it had semi-sheer color payoff and actually looked more muted compared to the wet application, which was more pigmented and lighter. It wore well for six and a half hours when applied dry, seven and a half hours when applied wet. Too Faced All American Girl (P, $16.00) is more metallic. Maybelline Pure Nude (80) (LE, $6.99) is lighter. Tarina Tarantino Fantastical #3 (P) is similar. Chanel Quadrille #2 (LE) is warmer. bareMinerals Celebrate (LE) is more beige. MAC Phresh Out #1 (LE) is similar. bareMinerals Mixologist (P) is less golden. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Callisto Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “icy pink silver.” It’s a medium-dark taupe with very subtle cool undertones and a metallic finish. It looks warmer against my skin tone, but in the pan, it looks more cool-toned, so it may lean one way or the other depending on your undertones. Applied dry, it was semi-sheer and lasted for seven hours. Applied with a dampened brush, it was mostly opaque and wore well for eight hours. Maybelline Nude Compliment (90) (LE, $6.99) is browner. Dior Golden Snow #4 (LE) is similar. MAC Phresh Out #4 (LE) is darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Starlet #1 (P) is darker. Urban Decay Verve (LE, $18.00) is lighter, warmer. NARS Lhasa (P, $24.00) is darker, less metallic. Giorgio Armani Shimmer Greige (LE) is less metallic, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Dione Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “metallic champagne beige.” It’s a medium, champagne bronze with a metallic finish. Applied dry, it had mostly opaque payoff, but it just looked less intense compared to the wet application, which had a darker coloring overall. It lasted well for seven hours dry, eight hours wet. Giorgio Armani #09 (P, $32.00) is darker. Kat Von D Delaney (P) is cooler-toned. Kat Von D Melancholia (P) is cooler-toned. theBalm #19 (P, $6.50) is less shimmery. Clarins Forest #4 (LE) is darker, warmer, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Himalia Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “shimmering topaz.” It’s a medium, golden bronze with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It’s really just a slightly darker, warmer, browner version of Dione. When applied dry, it had semi-sheer color payoff, and when it was applied with a dampened brush, it was mostly opaque. It wore well for six and a half hours dry, eight hours wet. Giorgio Armani #09 (P, $32.00) is darker. MAC Crushed Clove (P, $15.00) is lighter, warmer. Tarina Tarantino Delightful #2 (P) is darker. bareMinerals Hot Commodity (LE) is warmer. Clarins Forest #4 (LE) is less shimmery. Sleek MakeUP Lust in LA (LE, $9.99) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

After I saw your review, I don’t think I should buy Dione and Himalia both. I’m cool-toned and NC10~15, which one do you think is better on my skintone?
Dione if you’re looking for something naturally flattering on a cooler skin tone.
I’m feeling very much underwhelmed at this price point. I rarely wet apply and use a white or nude cream base instead to intensify powder products. This shade range could be so easily duped for a fraction of the cost. As far as luxury shadows go, I’m far more inclined to add a few of the new GA shadows to my stash instead of these.
Which are not that much more expensive… and that is really saying a lot, because GA is pretty expensive.
I really like Callisto, Dione and Himalia but I prefer the intensity of the wet look, nothing less and the fact that its $29 and you have to wet to get it like that makes me question if this is really worth my money. thank you for the review.
I like them in general, and they’re very, very smooth and soft in the pan, but when it’s nearly the price of a NARS blush, it feels like I’m over-paying.
Pretty. I must admit that I’m not seeing anything yet in these shades that really wows me. Compared with the Giorgio Armani singles you recently reviewed, also pricey (and more so), these don’t seem as interesting or lovely. Why is Nars revamping so much of their line? New lip glosses, new eye shadows…but nothing really interesting. I’m not sold on these yet so will wait (happily) to see your reviews on the other shades.
I think they’re just trying to more innovation to their product range, since these don’t seem to be a revamp or replacing anything currently, just a new formula (unlike the glosses, which were a reformulation!).
It’s because this year is their 20th anniversary so that’s why they are revamping most of the products.
Pretty shades. Still expensive, lol.
Definitely!
Himalia is soooo pretty!!!
It is!
Phoebe and Desdemona are still my favorites, though Hamalia also look really lovely.
Do you think you’ll be snagging Phoebe and Desdemona?
Callisto is pretty 🙂 I’m not entirely sure if it would have enough contrast with my skintone to make it more than a shimmer, but it’s lovely nonetheless 🙂
Could be nice for just brightening then!
Andromeda looks like it would be a nice eye brightening shade.
I agree!
I really wish these were more pigmented when dry. I love the way they look wet but like other ladies have stated I don’t apply my shadows wet. I want the full intensity applied dry!
I hear ya!
I really like Callisto but the MJ one might be better for me. Hard to say, need to swatch.
Let me know which one wins!

Will you be trying the new formula, Lotus?
How does Dione compare to Burberry Pale Barley; UD Suspect; MAC Patina? tia!
