Milk Makeup Mars Holographic Highlighting Powder Review, Photos, Swatches
Mars
Milk Makeup Mars Holographic Highlighting Powder ($30.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a pale, pinky beige with a pink-to-lavender shift. It was more of a duochrome than Supernova but the finish was much more subdued and more like a faint pearl than a true shimmery. The effect of this one was more noticeable when layered with blushes, as it would alter the blush a bit more noticeably than when this was applied on the face by itself. All that being said, subtle doesn’t quite seem to be what the brand had in mind as they call the formula “intense.”
The formula is an “intense highlighting powder” that is supposed to have “full payoff in a single swipe” that can be used on cheeks and eyes. The color payoff was good, but the effect remained subtle, so it might not look much against my skin tone. There was some noticeable shift in person, depending on the angle and lighting. If you prefer a blinding highlight, I would not recommend it, but if you prefer a subtle highlight and like the idea of a duochrome (but often find them too intense), this might be for you. The consistency was soft, smooth, and moderately dense and felt a touch powdery on the skin initially. It was blendable and any powderiness dissipated as I buffed and blended the powder across my cheeks. The highlighter lasted for eight hours on me.

Wow. Subtle is an understatement.
It was strange how subtle this one was compared to Supernova!
This one really is subtle, But the base beige colour seems really prevalent so I’m not sure if it would look good on pale skin.
I was really surprised that it wasn’t more noticeable on!
Have to admit, I didn’t really like this one when I saw the initial swatch in the Swatch Gallery the other night. But today, seeing it shown at both an angle and worn, I do like it as a softer duochrome highlighter that would be great for daytime wear! Not so sure if the base would wind up looking to stark against my skin or not, but I’ll try to swatch it in-store to see if it could work.
Hello, Christine! Do you have Milk Holo Sticks too? I’d like to know if the stick is as (not) intense as the powder or more so. I don’t have Milk Makeup in my country so I can’t swatch it, and I wouldn’t like to bring it all the way from US if it’s not going to be something I like.
Sorry, I do not.
Thanks anyway! 🙂
I actually like how subtle this is. It would be a little bit more noticeable on me.
This seems weirdly cool toned compared to how it looks in the pan (in addition to not really doing much). I was expecting something a little more peach-y, like UD Fireball.
Definitely not quite like Fireball – the base is a lot lighter!
Totally off topic, sorry but that Marc Jacobs e/s palette is beautiful on you. I wasn’t interested in this particular one but love it in use. Thank you again, Christine.
Happy to help, Deborah!
What an interesting shade! It looks pretty, but definitely subtle!
Neither the swatch, the cheap looking packaging, or $30 price tag is wowing me 🙁
Money saved!
See … this is why I love honest, thoughtful, well-stated reviews: I much prefer subtle shimmer to intense shine, and Milk’s marketing would have completely turned me off to it.
