Milani Sweet Nectar Color Statement Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
Milani Sweet Nectar Color Statement Lipstick
Milani Sweet Nectar Color Statement Lipstick ($5.49 for 0.14 oz.) is described as an “orange cream.” It’s a medium-dark orange with subtle red tones and a satiny finish. MAC Good to Go is slightly darker. MAC Fashion Nomad is very similar. MAC Morange is similar. MAC Neon Orange is also similar. Illamasqua Flare is more matte. Maybelline Electric Orange is also similar. See comparison swatches.
It had rich, full color coverage when applied. The consistency is lightly creamy and glided evenly across lips without pulling or dragging. It’s touted as an opaque, hydrating formula. I found it to be lightly hydrating, but only for the first two to three hours. Sweet Nectar lasted five and a half hours when I wore it. There’s a sweet, somewhat synthetic, fruity scent that felt a bit cloying.

I’ve always wanted an orange lipstick. I think this could be The One.
OOOOOH ME LIKEY!
I LOVE this shade! If you pale like me it look like a bright/fresh tomato red rather then orange. It is warm though. 😉
You are a beautiful young lady, however…I had a strongly negative reaction when I saw the full face photo. I really don’t like that color on you at all. Sorry 🙁
I don’t just review products that look good on me (like I don’t even consider if it will or won’t look good on me at all – it’s not a concern or consideration for products I review) – I review products for readers, regardless of how I may feel about them on myself 🙂
I understand. Not every color looks good on everyone. It makes total sense. Even when things don’t necessarily flatter you, they don’t usually look “bad” on you. Since you have a medium skin tone that doesn’t look too yellow, I feel it lends itself to a variety of products that will work on you. I just thought this is one of the worst things that I’ve seen on you in a while. Thank you for reviewing it, since I’m sure there are people out there who will look nice in this.
And, I love that quality about you. Some of the other bloggers strip down the rating for a product just because it’s not the right shade for them. Keep doing what you do.
Personally, I think that color looks great on you.
Thanks, Sonia! Different strokes for different folks 🙂
+1, Sonia.
+3 Shivani.
That was one of the things I saw (not among bloggers, just in reviews/ratings in general across retail sites and whatnot) in the early days of reviewing that I found really frustrating. I want to know if you felt like it was/wasn’t flattering on you (and know what your coloring is!), but ultimately, I don’t want that to be taken into account for the actual rating. I mean, one color might look awful on one person but maybe someone with a totally different skin tone is reading your review so they’re more interested in the quality, feel, pigmentation, etc.
Exactly!
Also kudos for wearing the unconventional blues, metallic golds and silvers in the OCC line (and for wearing it with a smile!)
Yes! It gets annoying to see a review claiming a shade isn’t wearable. Who are they to decide that? Thank you for doing what you do 🙂
I think the color looks amazing on you!
Thanks, Barbie!
Love this!!
I tried one of these lipsticks but the scent was too much for me. I’m not usually sensitive, but it was stronger than MAC or Chanel…and it doesn’t fade for a while. I think some people will like it because it’s a sweet fruit punch smell (like you mentioned).
Now I really want to check out Milani’s lipsticks! I already have Morange from MAC, so I doubt I would get this exact shade.
great colour! I’ve always wanted one like this xx
How does this lipstick compare to Sounds Like Noise from Mac in terms of the color. I realize that the finishes are completely different but would you say that Sweet Nectar is more red toned?
Sounds Like Noise is yellower – like it is a yellow orange, whereas most oranges, including this one, are red-based!
I love bright, bold colors like this! I’m definitely going to check this color out as well as the rest of the line. I also think this color is super flattering on you Christine!
Thanks so much, Amber!
I have a question for you, Christine. How does this compare to Milani’s (discontinued?) Mandarina lipstick that you had reviewed sometime back?
They are similar!
Thanks!
Okay, Christine, you are freaking me out, knowing what I need.
I was JUST looking up Orange Lipsticks and cursing that you didn’t have more swatches (I have pigmented lips and your lip swatches are the best) and I LITERALLY found this color today. You rock.
Haha!! Great minds think alike! xo
I think this look amazing on you Christine! and I detest orange in general. Not a lucky season for me, but you look smashing darling! <3
Thanks a lot, Catherine! I don’t usually reach for orange myself.
that color looks great on you! I love the Milani Color Statement lipsticks. awesome value. can’t beat the quality for the price and I think they have a decent color selection. I love their lip liners too!
Thanks a lot, Liza! What are your favorite shades?
fruit punch & teddy bare. I also love the color statement lip liner in 03 Nude, its the perfect nude shade 🙂
Would you say this is similar to Milani Mandarina?
Yes, I think they would be similar!
I think it looks wonderful on you, Christine. Warm, intense and exciting! I wish this had been in store several years ago when I bought MAC Morange, they look identical.
Thanks, Jane! 🙂
