Milani Love Potion (07) Rose Powder Blush Review, Photos, Swatches
Milani Love Potion (07) Rose Powder Blush
Milani Love Potion (07) Rose Powder Blush ($7.99 for 0.60 oz.) is described as a “dark rose.” It’s a medium-dark, fuchsia pink with a matte finish and cool, blue undertones. Clinique Berry Pop (03) (P, $21.00) is more shimmery. Milani Bella Rosa (11) (P, $7.99) is warmer. NARS Coeur Battant (LE, $29.00) is more pigmented. Tom Ford Beauty Narcissist (LE, $55.00) is more shimmery. MAC Prom Princess (LE, $21.00) is lighter, more shimmery. MAC Florida (LE, $21.00) is a cream, cooler-toned, brighter. See comparison swatches.
The formula is supposed to be a “luxurious matte blush” that has a “micro-milled … powder.” The product is so incredibly powdery and chalky–even the lightest tap of the brush to the pan creates a lot of excess powder getting everywhere. The powder doesn’t adhere well to bare skin; it was quick to blend away on my normal-to-dry forearm, and it was only moderately better on my face, which is normal at the moment. If you wear a liquid or cream foundation or some sort of emollient base, you can get the pigment to stick better, but blending this shade was somewhat challenging. It did not appear as splotchy as Lady Rouge, but it wasn’t easily blended. I highly recommend using much, much less than you think and gradually building up the color to the desired intensity. When I wore this shade, the color lasted well for seven and a half hours before showing signs of fading and some patchiness.

Lady Rouge is the one described as “hot red”; Love Potion is “dark rose”. I bought both, and have had fairly good luck applying them with Real Techniques duo fiber face and stippling brushes. I wear liquid foundation but apply finishing powder prior to the blush to make blending easier.
Hi Denise!
Thanks for catching that! Meant to update the description in the review.
I’m sorry these aren’t working for you! I haven’t had a problem with them (though Lady Rouge is a bit patchy). I tend to just lightly tap the blush with a soft brush, then apply – it picks up plenty of powder with such a soft formula – but no excess. I see that you tried tapping instead of swiping but it didn’t work for you, just reporting that it does work for me with these blushes in case it helps someone decide whether to get them!
Glad it’s working for you Emi!
Are you wearing them over bare skin?
Nope, have only tried over foundation (though I did swatch them on my arm and they adhered okay).
Gotcha! I was able to make them work over foundation, though they’re all more challenging and difficult to use relative to good quality blushes (including Milani’s other blushes) when I tried them.
These are so disappointing..I love the BB lip gloss on you!
Thanks, Melinda!

Can I imagine that's what the description really said? That's funny. Like they're not even sure.

It’s an abbreviated description – the … omits a part that wasn’t relevant 🙂
This is the one I was most interested in, as I’ve been looking for a rose-toned blush, but not only is this dry, it’s very bright. Right after I found these at Walgreen’s and decided to skip, I found the Final Cut collection on NARS’ site, and went with Love, so hopefully that will fill the void!
Fingers crossed!
Milani, stop making me sad.
🙁
It looks just way too matte. Your face as a nice glow and then the cheeks are dull looking!
It is a really, really matte powder!
Hm… I wish these performed a bit better (the price point is nicer than Clinique), but I guess it’s moot at the end of the day, as we don’t have the brand here :-S I wish we got more variety!
Booo! 🙁
uuuugh…I’m having SUCH a hard time finding these in my area 🙁
I just saw them at Walgreens earlier this week!
That’s where I saw them as well!
Last year’s collection NEVER showed up in my area. This year I decided not to risk it and ordered online.
These look so cute, but I can’t believe how patchy!
I know! 🙁
Sad, but the the perm dupes are lovely!
Thank goodness for that!
Looks SO pretty in the pan (as they all do). I might actually pick this one up when I go stateside in the next few weeks….it just looks so pretty and the price is pretty cheap so maybe I can put up with the less than great quality.
I’m keen to see how you work with these, Mariella!
So sorry to hear that you didnt mesh well with this one! The appearance and packaging is much much better and less gaudy than the other milani products which makes you think they might have spent a bit too much time on the packaging and not enough on the actual formula, which is what truly matters
Anyways, pink blush looks amazing on you! You look so glowing and happy, pink blush is def your thing!
It’s entirely possible! They just seemed to have gone overboard with the talc!
whoa.. so pretty and so pigmented… applying such highly pigmented blushes is really a task, but I love the end result 😀
They can definitely be worth the extra work!
The colour on the swatch looks quite patchy. How disappointing the blusher looks really nice but despite the appearance obviously doesn’t perform.
Patchy blushes drive me nuts!
I really wish Milani wouldn’t have made these so chalky. The colors and the design are just so beautiful
Same here! A little powdery, I could take… chalky, no!
Beautiful shade..:-)
Glad ya liked it, Rashmi!
this blush looks so pretty. i would end up buying it and not using it because its that pretty
the colours amazing
At least you won’t go broke doing that!
I would buy this just because it’s so cute! I do like the color too, though.
It is really pretty in the pan!
