Melt Cosmetics Amor y Mariposas 20-Pan Pressed Pigment Palette ($70.00 for 0.705 oz.) is a mega-sized palette that contains two rows of eyeshadows and two rows of pressed pigments (which contain pigments not approved for use on the eyes by the FDA). There are six shimmery shades with the remaining 14 shades being matte in finish.

The pigmentation and texture varied a lot from shade to shade; the mattes were generally on the thinner side, but several were powdery to the point of being sheerer and/or having fallout issues. The shimmers, on the whole, were more emollient and easier to work with than some of the brand’s past shimmer eyeshadows, but they were noticeably thicker/denser compared to the mattes, so layering wasn’t always foolproof.

Cielito Lindo is a light, minty green with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage, but the texture was thicker and denser, which didn’t layer as well with the mattes in the palette that were on the thinner side. I also found it harder to pick up product evenly with a dry brush. It wore decently for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Nube is a medium-dark purple with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied unevenly to bare skin and was more difficult to blend out, so I would highly recommend applying it on top of a primer at a minimum. The texture was drier and thinner, though not as powdery as other shades. This shade lasted decently for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

It was nearly opaque in pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture that felt slightly drier to the touch compared to other matte shades in the palette. It applied evenly and blended out without too much effort. This shade stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours and left a stain behind.

The consistency was more emollient, which is unusual for the brand’s shimmers, and this made it apply better with a fingertip than a brush as a brush sometimes resulted in a more uneven laydown of product.
