Maybelline Yummy Plummy ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a warm, pinky-plum with a satin finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightly creamy–just enough to allow the color to glide across lips but not so creamy that it felt thick. It wore well for four and a half hours, and it was lightly hydrating while worn. theBalm Captain (LE) is more matte, pinker. Chanel Rendez-vous (87) (P, $34.00) is lighter. Guerlain Madame Reve (862) (LE, $49.50) is brighter. Urban Decay Rush (P, $22.00) is a touch lighter. Urban Decay Rapture (P, $22.00) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty Casablanca (P, $48.00) is darker. MAC Plumful (P, $15.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches.

Also, I specifically went to Maybelline’s website to check the status on both of these shades before photographing (I’ve had them for a year or longer), and both were listed under the formula–except Yummy Plummy is not listed on any of the major retailers’ websites, so it might have been discontinued (though it’s still on Maybelline’s website). I’ve linked Amazon above, which is actually priced at $2.99 (free shipping for Prime members with any qualifying $25+ order).

Mochachino ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a warm, subdued coppery brown with warm, orange undertones. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly and smoothly. The consistency of the formula was creamy (and this shade felt a bit thicker compared to Yummy Plummy), and it was neither hydrating nor drying. It wore well for four hours, which is about average for me. Chanel Synopsis (P, $34.00) is less coppery. MAC Sheer Seduction (LE, $15.00) is somewhat sheerer. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Authentic (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches.

Yummy Plummy looks really pretty on you. I had recently noticed that there were a couple new shades hanging out in Maybelline’s “purple” section, I guess to replace some of the older shades including Yummy Plummy. The new shade that I grabbed was Mauve Mania, which I like quite a bit.

Love it. About to buy some vinyls for my 1980’s record player. Might as well add some lipstick to my basket. The $2.99 is hardly noticeable.

yummy plummy is so yummy 🙂 i dont like these much , the smell is bit turn off 🙁
the shade is looking pretty on you dear i have PLUMFUL and will wear it tom itself to compare 😀 😀

My Yummy Plummy is also bubbling like your pictures above. Are these tiny dots bacteria growing or just the wax in the formula coming through?

I find these lipsticks “turn” rather quickly, which is why I stay away from them. I bought several a few years back, put them in a small bin, and forgot about them for nearly a year. Having never even swatched them, I was surprised that about 1/2 of them were completely unuseable. I stored them the way I do all my lipstick (some of which are *quite* old), so I don’t know what happened… They all looked fine, no bubbling, but they just turned all “goopy”.

Will you be reviewing any of the purple lipsticks/glosses from the fall release or any items from the holiday collection (Gilded in Gold)?
Thanks!

I LOVE this lip color and also bought it over a year ago…whenever the color sensational line first came out. Since I liked it so much, I decided to go buy a bunch of them (one for work, one for home, one for the purse…you know how it goes!) but couldn’t find it, and I have *never* been able to find it since! It really bums me out!

I bought several (12-15, or so) around the time Maybelline first released this formula. Most of them held up, but 4-5 ended up completely unuseable. It may have had more to do with the particular shades, though (I have a Prestige lipstick that needs *constant* replacing, although I have several that are years old in other shades). I’ve always been a huge fan of Maybelline lipstick, and that was the first experience having any of them “turn”.
