Maybelline Vibrant Mandarin ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a bold, medium-dark orange with strong red undertones and a satiny finish. MAC Scarlet Ibis is very similar, but it has a matte finish. OCC Psycho is also similar, perhaps a touch more orange. MAC Sail La Vie is very comparable, both in finish and color. Giorgio Armani #405 is more orange and has shimmer. Dolce & Gabbana Sheer is very similar but glossier.

It has very rich color payoff, but there’s a very slight translucency where a hint of the natural lip color comes through–unless you have really, really naturally pigmented lips, it’s not going to interfere with the color, though. A benefit of the lightweight, translucent nature of the product is that it doesn’t look heavy, like a richer, more opaque cream-finish shade might. This shade had some slip to it, so it was both creamy and balm-like. It glided on evenly and without pulling or tugging on the lip, and it left a natural sheen behind. Vibrant Mandarin was lightly hydrating, wore for five and a half hours, and left behind a very slight stain (not quite as prone to staining as the other shades I’ve reviewed).  Because this one had added slip to the consistency, it did have a tendency to leave lines if I pressed my lips together, but luckily with the bolder color, they were less noticeable than if this had been a very pale color.

Interesting how it looks orange on you but not on me…on my pale yellow-toned skin it looks like an orange-coral with strong red tones. In fact, on my lips I’d say it has more red/pink than orange, and I wear it as if it was a red. I think it has to do with both the fact that it stains red-pink, and that it is probably interacting with my natural lip color. It might just be my coloring though; bright red-based corals look mostly red on my coloring (while true reds look ridiculous).

I picked up Vibrant Mandarin, Shocking Coral and Vivid Rose and OMG they are so gorgeous. I absolutely love the packaging too. Also, I noticed they have muted the smell a little bit, its not the same with their earlier lipstick line. Thats a great news for me too!! 😀

This looks so similar to how last years Tangerine lipstick from Sephora+Pantone lipstick was. OMG one of my most favourite lipsticks ever.

The Maybelline Vivids are great! Usually I’d depend on MAC for bright colors like this, so I’m thrilled there are wonderful drugstore options. I really love these and the new Milani lipsticks.

After reading your review, I went and picked myself up one! I applied it light handed, but it’s still bright 🙂 Thanks!

Ah, lip freckle! 😀

It’s like you were born to be a beauty blogger, Christine — we come for the wonderfully in-depth reviews, but we stay for the no-fail representation of a lipstick’s translucency. 😛 😛

way, *way* too orange for me, but it looks fantastic on you, Christine! I ended up snagging Vivid Rose the other day and I like it on me. Sadly it’s now packed along with the rest of my stash so I can’t access it until sometime next week. Or next month.

HMM I dont know if I have the courage to wear orange lipstick. I love the color though, and I am pretty sure that it would look awesome on me. I think I will pick this up when my no buy is over
