Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Eyeshadow Palette Quick Review, Photos, Swatches
Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Eyeshadow Palette
Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0.37 oz.) contains eight shades with “heathery neutrals and dusty pinks designed to flatter all skin tones.”
Overall, this palette was a disappointment due to poor color payoff and drier, powdery textures that were common across far too many shades. The worst offenders were Barely There, Heather Brown, and Black Chocolate; but then Ivory, Pale Rose, Pink Lily, and Dusty Lilac were all rather powdery and none of the shades were without flaws. I think the closest to good was Stormy Grey, but it was a nightmare using on the lid–it’s just too stiff to apply with much color.
Because of the lack of color payoff, I really don’t see this working well on medium or darker complexions; very fair skin tones may find that it’s just enough color for an easy-to-use neutral palette, but I find the textures to be lacking. When I wore the palette, the whole thing looked faded from the beginning and was all one color after eight hours of wear–quite a bit of fading had occurred. I felt like I had to really jab and stab at the eyeshadow to dislodge enough product to use for application. There are too many other neutral palettes on the market to settle for something so below-average.
- Ivory is a pale, cool-toned beige with a matte finish. It had decent color payoff but was powdery.
- Pale Rose is a subtly warm-toned taupe with a matte finish. It had good color payoff but was powdery. (I also did not detect any pink in it.)
- Pink Lily is a frosted, shimmering light pink with subtle cool undertones. It had so-so color but was very powdery and almost chunky. I experienced major fall out with this shade.
- Stormy Grey is a gray-tinged, medium-dark brown with subtle warm undertones and a pearly finish. It had good pigmentation but was dry and stiff to work with.
- Barely There is a slightly warm-toned champagne beige with a soft, shimmerys heen. The payoff was horrible with this shade; I had to scrape off layers of product just to get anything to show up. The texture was very dry/stiff.
- Heather Brown is a medium champagne-shimmered brown with slightly warm undertones. Again, a dry texture that resulted in subpar color payoff.
- Dusty Lilac is a rosy mauve with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation but was very powdery to work with, so it was prone to fading and sheering out as soon as you went to blend it.
- Black Chocolate is a cool-toned black-brown with a mostly matte finish. It was dry and stiff–very hard to blend when I used it–but the color payoff was decent.
If you’re interested in a dupe, consider looking through the Swatch Gallery to find a shade that you feel is close enough. I recommend starting in brown eyeshadows and beige eyeshadows! 🙂 Otherwise, feel free to ask and if you have any specific brands/price points in mind, please note that.
Long-time readers will remember that towards the end of the year, I try to kick out some quick reviews, because I have a horrible tendency to over-photograph, over-swatch, and over-test products to the point where I have thousands of unused photos and hundreds of products tested but not reviewed. I’d like to try and write more of these quick reviews throughout the year for certain products that I don’t think need full, in-depth reviews for one reason or another. Remember, these aren’t replacing normal reviews but are in addition to; e.g. an extra review–a cherry on top. Let me know if this is still useful and/or if you’d rather only in-depth reviews. Thank you!

Thrilled to read I successfully avoided this bomb. I was tempted by the ultra feminine and pretty shadows in this palette multiple times and even had it in my BBrown basket only to remove it at the last minute. So glad I waited for your review. I still love the colours, but taking extra time to struggle with poor quality shadows is just no fun at all.
Bobbi Brown usually has really soft, buttery mattes that aren’t too powdery or too dry… but these were not them!
The LORAC Pro palette has very similar shades, and overall amazing pigmentation & texture (a couple of the paler shades are a bit sheer). HTH
Too weird, I just mentioned the Lorac Pro palette in a recent reply to you. A high quality palette on all counts. These shadows are some of the best I’ve ever used.
I *finally* was able to pick it up a couple of months ago, as my local Sephora doesn’t carry the brand, and the one inside JCP is so small, and always sells out of everything so fast. Thank goodness we just got an ULTA; I was hesitant about it at first, given so many negative comments about the store, but I really like the store.
So funny, I did the same thing! I attempted to buy this online, but kept waiting for Temptalia’s review. Only because the last few LE eyeshadows and palettes I bought from Bobbi Brown in recent years have ALL been disappointments to me. I used to love BB eyeshadows because of their great pigmentation; and I don’t know if the company changed their formula or what, but they just don’t make ’em like they used to. I have been saving money by NOT wasting it on their limited-edition, poorly-pigmented palettes. I’ll just stick with their old, reliable, original eyeshadows.
I had my eye on this palette and had high hopes. Glad I waited for your review $60 to spend on better quality products
Phew!
Me, too!
Considering just how many very good neutral eye shadow palettes are available at all price points, I think you’ve done us a service letting readers know how poor the quality of this one is. I’m surprised, frankly, that Bobbi Brown would put out something so disappointing in its quality. Stuff like this just damages a brand’s image, in my opinion.
I always look forward to her neutral palettes because they tend to have mostly mattes so they’re a great thing to recommend to anyone who asks about matte neutral palettes, but not lately 🙁
I was very disappointed just looking at it in the store. It seemed very pale and ordinary, nothing special at that price. I am very fair, but only decided to pick up the new shimmer brick and two glosses instead and am happy at that!
Yay! Glad you are loving the three things you picked up 🙂
The palette looks really tempting but I googled it awhile back and saw pictures of people wearing it and you could not tell that they were wearing anything. So I passed on it. It is the same with this picture. I honestly can’t tell that there is anything on the brow bone.
Yeah, the color payoff/texture issues reinforced everything kind of looking the same applied!
What a shame it’s such a dud, the colours are so nice!
I know!
I was THIS close to purchasing this today, since I had heard basically nothing but great things about this palette all over the internet, but I’m so glad I waited for your review! Your reviews are my gold standard when it comes to deciding what’s worth purchasing. Thanks for saving me sixty dollars, Christine!
Thanks, Ivy! 🙂
I don’t think Bobbi Brown has any business in making pallets anymore. I just returned their oyster pallet. SO disappointing when it comes to quality of eye shadow and size when you have Lorac, Urban and other companies giving way more for your dollar and better quality!
Glad you were able to return the Oyster palette, Jenna!
Unfortunately I already bought the palette without waiting for your review 🙁 I fell in love with the shades seeing them on the internet and did not think about it twice, expecting it to have really lilac/rose shades…but they’re just not there! So I am quite disappointed even though I am a real Bobbi Brown fan.
So sad to hear you had a similar experience, Mara! Are you able to return? I hope so!
Ha Ha. Bobbi Brown hanging on the coattails of the EL Company. I went to The Company Store in SF downtown the other day to buy another Tom Ford lipstick…the white tube version. I saw the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow set…the tortoise container collection that was out a few seasons ago. I see this collection being sold at some Cosmetic Company Store a few seasons from now.
I bet it will be. It is such a disappointment!
Thats really too bad about this palette. I feel like BB palettes keep getting a little worse in quality like MAC palettes :/ I am in love with Stormy Grey and Heather Brown though…do you know if these are sold as singles, Christine?
I don’t think those two are sold individually!
And the colors looked so pretty and everything.. :/ I really like the quick reviews though, seeing it means there’ll be more to read 🙂
Thank you!
It’s a shame, the colors look so pretty. Kinda ridiculous when you consider the cost.
I’d love to see short reviews, I love any reviews!
Thank you, Trillium!
Such a shame, as the colors look quite beautiful together in the palette. I agree – there are better palettes out there with better quality.
Inexcusable at this price point!
i would love to see short reviews…a short review is better than no review!
LOL! That is my philosophy but it helps to here it from readers, too 🙂
I’d love to read the quick reviews, too. Once again, thank you for the hard work! 🙂
Thank you!
So dissapointing! What’s going on with Bobbi Brown palettes lately? She used to put out such nice palettes, but it seems like lately they are all very dry texture and seriously lacking in color payoff. I recently found her Ultra Nudes palette (from last Spring) at the CCO. I NEVER return cosmetics (I’ll usually give things that didnt work out to my sister), but that palette went straight back it was that bad. I love her lipsticks, glosses, eye shadow singles but I don’t think I will ever buy another palette without first reading your review.
The past few palettes have been underwhelming, unfortunately! 🙁
I have this and love it! I’m sorry it didn’t work for you!
Again, super happy it worked well for you, Amanda! 🙂
Ugh. I had such high hopes for this! I’ve really been wishing for a palette that had soft mauve and heather tones rather than the usual warm neutrals, but apparently this isn’t it.
I always have high hopes for Bobbi Brown’s – just because they are often very matte and neutral, but no dice.
Thank you for reviewing this! I was going to purchase this palette but hesitated because of the price and because I’ve never used Bobbi Brown cosmetics before. Good to know I’m not missing out and that saving my $$$ was the right decision.
Ooh, good thing you didn’t – it wouldn’t have been a good first BB purchase!
The colors are very wearable but even if this were good quality, I couldn’t justify the price. There are so many affordable and very pigmented neutrals out there
Agreed!
I know BB products have a cult following, but after several bad experiences with a variety of different cosmetics, I’m not in the fan club.
I think your condensed reviews are still packed with information! In fact, had you not specifically said anything, I wouldn’t have noticed that this wasn’t an in-depth review. You do such a good job, Christine! If these more succinct reviews help you get through more products, then I say keep it up! 🙂 They still contain everything someone would want to know before they make a purchase.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Kristen! 🙂 I appreciate it!
So happy I waited for a Temptalia review before buying! You are amazing 🙂
Thanks a lot, Meghan! 🙂
Pale Rose looks like Malt from MAC, doesn’t it? (:
I love the quick reviews – keep them coming!!
Thanks, Betsy!
I’m happy to see quick reviews! More to read!
Thank you, Jade!
It looks beautyful!!!
I like the quick review! And I almost ordered this, but opted to try the new Dior Addict Glosses instead–I’m glad I made the right decision!
Thanks, KK!
I wan’t really interested in this palette. In fact, nothing from the Lilac Rose Collection caught my eye. However, as a fan of Bobbi Brown, I’m disappointed to see such poor quality products put out.
It kind of made me laugh that “Barely There” really WAS barely there! They meant that literally, I guess!
Do you have a recommendation for a palette containing similar shades with better color/texture payoff? These shades really do complement my skin tone (particularly Dusty Lilac and Brown Chocolate), but I agree that they’re extremely powdery. I’ve been eyeing some of the Dior quints but am still unsure what to get.
I don’t know of a similar palette 🙁
I liked the look of this palette as well but I’m going to get the Chanel quad I was originally looking at instead. Less colours but quality over quantity every time!!
I really like the shorter reviews, they still contain a great deal of information and you’re so good at answering any reader questions/concerns that I’m happy with them.
Which Chanel quad were you looking at, Nicola?
Chanel Raffinement – I’m planning on picking it up in the airport in a few weeks time.
Of course the quick reviews are still helpful!! I want to know if a product is terrible or great even if you don’t have time to do the full write-up 🙂
Thanks for all your hard work, you are truly and invaluable resource!
I have many Bobbi Brown products which I love, but have found that, recently, the prices keep going up and the quantity and quality is going down. Very disappointing. Guess this is a case of NOT getting what you pay for! 🙁
Your quick reviews are great! Your product feedback is quite helpful so the more the merrier. I literally will not buy an item if you give it a poor rating. Thanks!
This is definitely still useful! Helps me avoid buying a sub par product. I totally wanted this but have no place locally to test Bobbi Brown.
Hi Christine, thanks for this very good review and nice pics.
I’d like to tell you my disapointment about BB palettes since the end of 2012 : I do agree, too powdery and poor color pay off… especially this new one. Moreover, for a very expensive price in France. So, I still use my tortoise shell palettes that I love and I must admit that I have stopped purchasing this brand, as I have been very dispointed with its new liquid foundation….I used to be a great fan… This Spring 2013, my choice turns towards Chanel and Dior, although Bare Minerals Palettes and duos are really good…. I hope that Bobbi Brown will decide to add exciting new colors to its makeup collections and will change the texture of the eyeshadows…. Have a nice day !
I’m so sorry to hear that you, too, have had problems with BB’s palettes lately 🙁
I’m so surprised to see this review because I looooove the palette! I have black hair, fair skin, and green eyes, so the colors are perfect for me and I’ve had no problem with the textures at all. In fact, I find there’s much better color payoff than some of the other recent BB palettes; Desert Twilight, for one, was all sheer sparkle and no real color. Twice while wearing it someone told me I look like a young Elizabeth Taylor! As I told the Muse, I look nothing whatsoever like La Liz so I figured it was the shadow. I have no affiliation with Bobbi Brown, in case you’re wondering, and I would say to the girls who are intrigued by the colors to give it a try.
I personally think the whole Lilac Rose collection is a bomb. I purchased the shimmer brick and was very disappointed in the color payout and having way too much shimmer. Seems everytime I get something from BB, its not very flattering. At least not on me.
Anyone know a dupe for Pale Rose? Love the color. Doesn’t have to be a Bobbi Brown product. Thanks in advance 🙂
Sad to hear that this does not live up to its normal standards.
Looks awesome in the box and pictures ~ so sad!
Thanks for the quick review, I totally love them. No need to over do for things that just need a quick glance. Thanks so much. Love your blog!!!
Thank you, Miranda!
I know this review is a few weeks old, but I was thinking of buying this palette in the Sephora sale so I checked it out. This “quick” review is still incredibly thorough and helpful. I appreciate all your hard work (especially since it kept me from wasting $60)!
Thank you, Abbey!!
Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadow palettes are just crap, I’ve found. I stopped buying them after 2 major disappointments. Love her foundation & lipsticks and glosses, but there is just absolutely no excuse for such shoddy products at this price level.
