Maybelline Precious Pearl Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a warm ivory with a frosted shimmer and finish. It looks more golden in the pot, but swatched and applied, it looked closer to white (and I have warm undertones, so those would normally bring out the warmth in a shade like this). MAC Angelic is cooler-toned. MAC She’s Got Class is slightly cooler-toned. MAC The Cool Elite is more of a pure white. Dior Fairy Golds #3 is similar. Estee Lauder Bronze Dunes #2 is warmer. Guerlain Terra Azzura #1 is similar but a powder.  See comparison swatches here.

Maybelline Icy Mint Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.14 oz.) is an iridescent, cool-toned, blue-aqua with a frosted finish. bareMinerals Sensational is greener. Benefit Blue My Mind is less iridescent. Buxom Husky is bluer. MAC Blue Willow is more silvered. Dior Swimming Pool #4 is comparable but a powder product. Giorgio Armani #10 is more metallic, less blue, and a powder product. L’Oreal Dive Right In is more aqua and a powder product. See comparison swatches here.

Both of these looked better in the pot than applied, because both were sheerer, a little streaky, and were difficult to apply evenly. Precious Pearl was easier, and the color itself is far more forgiving with a sheer, slightly uneven application. Icy Mint, because it does have a tint of bluish-aqua to it, does look odd with as much streakiness as there is. The texture of both shades was slick and creamy, so they glided on well but didn’t seem to smooth out quite as nicely. They are very blendable, though, and they took a bit longer to set than other Color Tattoos I’ve worked with.

As an eyeshadow base, they worked better than they did alone, as the unevenness gets covered by other eyeshadows. I tried applying sheer, thin layers and allowing them to dry before applying another layer, but it didn’t help (just slid the product around or caused it to look clumpy). Icy Mint creased noticeably after six hours of wear, and Precious Pearl had light creasing after eight hours of wear.

I adore the bronze and grey versions but I’ve found the other colours to be as disappointing as these. Such a shame the formulas vary so much!

Do you know if these are US exclusives?
I have been looking everywhere I can here in Canada and can’t find a thing. I have even tried a large city and nothing.
I would love to try to get a hold of atleast one of these but no one seems to have any answers for me.

My favourite colour tattoos are Bad to the Bronze and Barely Branded. Barely Branded is a really nice base for eyeshadows, and b.t.t.b is a really nice metallic bronze colour that comes off rose-gold in the light, which is great cause you can just slap it on and walk out the door! (well, with other makeup of course.) 😀 ♥

Prepare for shadow overload.

WnW Trios; I Dream of Greenie (intense mint = Crease), Cool as a Cucumber (light mint = Browbone)

NYX Single shadows; Sweet lagoon, Lagoon Sparkle, Ocean(leans blue) Golden Sky (has gold reflective shimmer)
NYX Cream Eyeshadow; Aqua (much darker than Icy mint but looks great blended with it and sets just like the color tattoos)
NYX Roll On Shimmer; Sea Foam
NYX Jumbo Pencil; Horseradish

Ulta shadow singles; Key West, and maybe Willow (darker mint color)

Stila single shadow; Chacha

Lorac Palettes! Lorac Mint Edition Collection (matte mint) or GLOgetter Palette (shimmery gold mint)

All these vary in finish and blue/green tone but all read minty on the lid.

I thought NYX’s aqua would be more of a dupe (or at least sorta similar) to Seashore Frosts in the LE tattoo collection… correct me if I’m wrong though, haven’t got the chance to compare them side by side yet

Jackie Avatar

You’re right, it is more similar to Seashore Frosts when applied lightly. It’s a straight gold shimmer and doesn’t have any of the pearly iridescent quality you see in Seashore Frost.

Marcelle has a beautiful seafoamy mint color in a cream shadow stick called “Enchantmint.” It’s waterproof and boasts 9 hours of wear, but one blogger claimed she got 16 hours out of it. I just picked it up today, so I can’t speak for creasing or wear time, but it’s absolutely smooth and opaque in one swipe and sheers out beautifully as well. $15 CAD.

These were incredibly disappointing. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who felt the same. So many bloggers raved about them.

Carrie Avatar

I know a lot of people don’t like that the LE summer ones are sheer, but I think they’re supposed to be? I don’t think that they’re blatantly stated as being opaque but I’ve seen them layered over dark colors (the popular choice being black) and they look fantastic!

Jackie Avatar

I keep seeing all the blogs having such sheer swatches for these new shades. They really need to be patted on instead of swiped. I just pat on with a finger tip or small eye shadow brush. If I want them to really pop I let it dry and do a second layer. Mint is my favorite and Pearl looks so flattering on my inner corner. Once dry they don’t budge either. The blue shades are my least favorite because I don’t find them exciting. Lavender was quite nice though!

TLDR; Pat them on to achieve opaque non-splotchy coverage! They just need different application than the other color lines.

Jackie Avatar

Bummer! It’s such a lovely shade I wish it was more usable for others. It was the shade that made me purchase my first color tattoo product, now I have about 14 of these suckers!

Chelsea Avatar

I hope you’ll be reviewing the other LE shades from this collection. I haven’t seen any solid reviews for them online and I can’t wait to see what you say.

Danielle Avatar

I really wanted Precious Pearl, but I could not find it in stores. I know most bloggers were giving Icy Mint an average or below average review, but I did not have any problem with mine. It went on pretty opaque and lasted all day.

Cat Avatar

please for the love of god don’t review the rest of the maybelline ltd edition cream shadows… reducing my already slim chances of obtaining the other shades at drugstores where the displays are already empty AHHHHH :PPPP
