Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel Review, Photos, Swatches
Marc Jacobs Beauty Pout (142) Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel
Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel ($30.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a new and limited edition formula for spring. It’s a “demi-matte” take on the permanent Lovemarc Lip Gel, but it’s still supposed to have the “gellified feel” of the original. I’m not a fan of the formula because of how it looks and wears over time. Initially, they apply so-so but tend to catch on any imperfections on the lips, and the lighter shades did not apply evenly. Worn, they settle into lip lines terribly and tend to leave color on the outer edges of the lips. The settling process happens after about an hour and a half of wear and steadily worsens. None of these were drying, though none were hydrating. The finish is more satin to natural, less semi-matte. They are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.
Shout (138) Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel ($30.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “matte bright watermelon.” It’s a brightened, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage, and this shade applied the smoothest out of the three I tried. It wore for four and a half hours on me. Guerlain Attrape-Coeur (171) (LE, $35.00) is lighter. Chanel Melodieuse (136) (P, $34.00) is similar. Givenchy Magnolia Organza (301) (P, $36.00) is darker, brighter. Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) (P, $36.00) is similar. MAC Elegant Accent (P, $22.00) is lighter. MAC Watch Me Simmer (LE, $16.00) is brighter. Chanel Genial (LE, $34.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches.
Pout (142) Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel ($30.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “matte soft nude.” It’s a light, pink-tinted beige with a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, and though it glided on without skipping, it didn’t apply evenly. It lasted three hours on me. Maybelline Blushing Beige (915) (P, $7.49) is warmer, lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Dizzy Spell (104) (P, $30.00) is glossier, warmer. MAC Antonio’s Girls (LE, $16.00) is warmer, more matte. Tom Ford Beauty Blush Nude (P, $49.00) is pinker. MAC Luxe Natural (P, $22.00) is slightly warmer. Buxom Nudist (P, $21.00) is a touch lighter. See comparison swatches.
Flirt (144) Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel ($30.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “matte soft peach.” It’s a light-medium, peachy coral with a semi-matte finish. It had mostly full color coverage, and it applied fairly well but wasn’t perfectly even (better than Pout, not as good as Shout). The color lasted for four hours. Givenchy Beige Plume (102) (P, $36.00) is similar. MAC Antonio’s Girls (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Chanel Sentiment (P, $34.00) is more shimmery, warmer. MAC Innocence (LE, $16.00) is lighter. NARS Descanso (LE, $25.00) is darker. MAC Runway Hit (LE, $16.00) is darker, more matte. MAC Flavour (LE, $16.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches.

what a shame they look really pretty. saved myself the 30+ dollars
Phew!
Shout is beautiful and perfect for Spring. I’m not crazy about the other two-their finish/texture looks a little funny to me.
It’s really weird – they apply so smoothly and feel fine going on, but they just don’t sit right.
Thank you Christine, I was on the fence about ‘shout’ but I’ll take the plunge now.
Happy to help, Adetoun!
Shout looks exactly like Too Faced Bon Bon. You could also try this as a slightly cheaper option if you want.
I’ve been waiting for your review on some of these, I think I’ll pass based on your review..thanks Christine!
My pleasure, Melinda!
Aww, Pout’s the first ‘nude’ lipstick in a while that’s appealed to me! Wish the application and wear times were better, but it does look great in the picture! I wish the Marc Jacobs beauty line was an independent one, and that it would make it overseas 😉
Maybe one day… we’ll see!
I like Shout but I might just… get Magnolia Organza instead, lol.
I vote Givenchy 😉
Christine they look fine on your swatches, especially the last one with that blush on, just pure Hotness…. I’m gonna pass on these 3….but I might get Gossip, will you be reviewing the color Gossip?
I’m not sure, sorry!
“Matte”
If you read through their description, they state demi-matte.
Shout is such a pretty colour. It’s a shame they don’t sit right coz it’s a really lovely shade of pink. Not so keen on the other two but then again I’m not a fan of a nude lip.
I was disappointed by this formula!
I still haven’t really gotten around to really trying the 2 lipsticks I own already lol. But now I’m nervous to try them and even more skeptical of the mattes. I was so excited for the release because I love the packaging and matte lippies but I hate lipsticks that wear like this. That dreaded ring of color is so not cute!
I like the regular formula, but I don’t like this one at all.
Ugh I had that ring today from one of the buxom lipstick minis from the holiday set. So unattractive.
Thank you for this review, Christine! These swatch quite good and look great applied on you, so it´s so useful to know they don´t wear well. At that price tag, one would expect a better performing product. Now we know we can save our bucks for something much more special 🙂
My pleasure, Leticia! 🙂
Hi Christine, Im a loyal fan of your blog n everytime I see specialy lately I say to my self with sight, I need to ask her if she can please tell me her cleansing routine, like how you keep your skin lloking so beautiful, so clean, with out a blackhead, blemish or else. If you been using the same base foundation , if you set it with powder and what do you use to set it if you do, and which kind of powder, do you use a brush to apply your base or a beautyblender basically your, whole applycation of your make up, and how you take care of you face, do you use creams for the face which ones…Im sorry for so much questions but today I decided to finally go for it and ask you, ’cause your skin looks sooo flawless, I need to know how you do it 🙂 I f you can do a video on your youtube channel would be great 🙂 Sorry for so much questions again 🙂
Thank you so much, Pamela!
I change my skincare every 2-4 weeks – as in a new product rotates every 2 weeks or so, but I use most for about 6 weeks (e.g. I use the same daytime moisturizer for 6 weeks, but in that 6 week period, I usually swap stuff out as I finish – so it’s staggered and I’m not changing 10 products all at once!). I don’t have any staples or go-to skincare products I could recommend to you.
I still use the same technique to apply my foundation – I did a video a few years ago here – http://www.temptalia.com/video-tutorial-how-to-apply-foundation-using-the-109-brush
Oh! Sad story! I was just looking at these on Sephora’s website. They look beautiful on you! Too bad the formula is a bust. I’m over-saturated with lipsticks at the moment, so I think I’ll pass.
Have you (or anyone reading this!) tried any of the Kate Spade lipsticks? I’ve heard they’re amazing. Curious!
I haven’t tried them, Elle!
Both Too Faced Bon Bon and Bourjois Peach on the Beach lip crayon look like dupes for Shout, especially the former! I compared the Bourjois one on my lips to the swatch and it looks the exact same on me.
Great to know! I don’t know if Bon Bon is a real dupe, just because the finish is so glossy in comparison!
Yeah, i get that. But when I compared your swatches, I couldn’t tell the difference at all so I figured it’s a really nice option for someone who doesn’t want to spend too much and isn’t bothered by a glossier finish.
Ahh, gotcha!
Shout is gorgeous, but I expected a higher rating since it’s Marc Jacobs.
It was a disappointing formula, IMO!
Wow, these look beautiful on you Christine. The formula doesn’t “look” bad or uncomfortable in the pictures, which is why we rely on you to tell us the truth. Thanks for the review. I only have one of these in the shade have we met.
My pleasure, Elisa! 🙂
