Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Charm & Petra Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Charm Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer
Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Charm (112) Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.43 oz.) is described as a “rosy copper metallic shimmer.” It shifts between a soft, coppery peach and a more genuine rose gold–I found it to be a chameleon and really a color that changed depending on the angle, amount of light, and the color of the lighting. The finish was heavily frosted and metallic, so the dry down had some shine but a top coat would be recommended for a really great finish. There were a few, very, very subtle brush strokes that I could detect, but only if I looked closely and there was a lot of light. It was very nearly opaque after two coats. I went through other copper, orange, and peach-hued polishes that I’ve reviewed in the past, but I couldn’t find anything that was similar.
Petra (140) Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.43 oz.) is described as a “dirty bronze metallic shimmer.” It’s a cool-toned, purplish-gray taupe with copper and bronze metallic shimmer. I didn’t detect any brush strokes no matter the angle or lighting situation with this one, and it was fully opaque after two coats. If I was a normal person and reach for a color over and over again, I could easily see this becoming a go-to for fall/winter (I might, in fact, make it my go to for my toes this season at least!). I thought Illamasqua Facet (LE, $17.00) might be similar but it is lighter and warmer in a way. See comparison swatches.
So far, I’ve had good luck with Marc Jacobs’ formula in regards to wear–lasting between seven and ten days with minor tip wear but no chipping–but almost no formula chips on me. It did seem to wear slightly longer than the average polish did on me. Both polishes had a nice consistency that wasn’t too thick or too thin, so both applied evenly, smoothly, and didn’t pool along the edges. The more metallic finish also helped both shades dry faster than the average polish.

“If I was a normal person” lol too funny
Let’s be real, my beauty habits can’t possibly be that of a normal person 😉 I’m pretty sure most people don’t wear two different eye looks at once as their normal, lol!
I really love Petra. I think the color is unique (no small feat in nail polish these days) and it really gives me good wear (and polish peels on me LIKE CRAZY) Two (sparkly!) thumbs up 🙂
I know, right? It’s tough to be unique!!
I recently go Petra as well and agree that if I didn’t have so many things to wear i’d never take it off. Probably my favorite polish ever.
It’s a totally gorgeous shade and so appropriate for the season!
OMG Petra! I think I am going to pick up this shade to wear during the wintertime.
I love it! Hope you do, too!
I love Petra! Actually, Marc Jacobs’ nail polish in general has impressed me so far. I have Petra, Fluorescent Beige, Lola, and Blue Velvet. If I had to pick a favorite of those, it would probably be Petra though. It’s very unique in my collection.
Yay! Petra is amazing – surprisingly unique, too 🙂
I bought two Marc Jacobs nail polishes and they chipped HORRIBLY on me. Nail polish does tend to chip very quickly on me anyway, but these were worse than usual. I tried both colors to make sure I just didn’t have a bad batch, and they were both bad and had to be returned.
Shame, because the colors are so lovely and they really do dry nice and fast.
Which shades were those, Samira? What a bummer 🙁
Delphine and Secret Love. As I said, I have a pretty bad track record with polish lasting anyway (usually not more than a day or so unless I keep applying more coats), but these chipped on more nails faster than any others. I think one chipped within about an hour. It just seemed like a very brittle formula.
When I returned them I mentioned to the Sephora checkout lady that I’d had this problem and she said it was actually not the first time she’d heard it, so I guess it’s not just me, although I’m glad they worked for you (and am very jealous of your nail polish longevity skills in general).
They looks really special, I dig that!
OK, I’ll be the big grouch on here. lol.
I just don’t like either one. If I HAD to pick, I guess I’d go with the Petra, but they just look like drugstore polishes to me. Nothing special!
What dupes would you recommend for Petra?
Le Charm looks a lot like Orly Rage to me. I’d say Petra is definitely unique, even if it’s not my color. Thanks for swatching these!
Added to my “Loves” list in Sephora for when 20% strikes…oh dear there goes all my money.
I adore the Marc Jacobs nail polishes! I’ve tried most of them and they’re so pigmented and easy to apply. And most importantly (!!!) they wear forever on me, and that’s really saying something! Polish never lasts on my nails no matter what I do. Le Charm, Gatsby, and Petra are my absolute favorites lately. (Desire, Blue Velvet, and Sally are pretty darn awesome too.) Baby Jane however isn’t the best :-/
Wow, Petra is on my wishlist for sure! Perfect shimmery, smokey shade 🙂
I don’t pay more than $10 on nail polish, unless it really strikes me, and Petra *will* somehow make it to my stash!
Petra is gorgeous!
I loved Petra but I just wonder how do you take it off? Shimmery nail enamels are too hard to remove:/
I just use regular polish remover – not really too difficult! Harder than a cream, easier than glitter!
Just when I feel like I don’t want to buy anything anymore, I go on Temptalia.com and make a new wishlist *sigh* this website is a virtual drug!
LOL! Sorryyy!
