Makeup Geek Summer Fling Blush
Makeup Geek Summer Fling Blush ($9.99 for 0.15 oz. pan; $12.99 for 0.15 oz. compact) is described as a “soft burnt orange.” It’s a brightened, medium orange with warm, red undertones and a semi-matte finish. MAC Ocean City (LE, $30.00) is brighter. NARS Exumas (P, $39.00) is a cream product. NARS Final Cut (LE, $29.00) is pinker. Make Up For Ever #420 HD Blush (P, $26.00) is a cream product. Fyrinnae Nordic Angel (P, $6.50) is lighter, pinker. Chanel Presage (62) (LE, $38.00) is a cream product, brighter. theBalm Swiss Dot (P, $22.00) is more orange. NYX Cinnamon (P, $5.00) is more orange, redder, brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
This is a richly pigmented blush with an incredibly silky-smooth texture that feels like butter and blends beautifully on the skin. I would recommend using a light hand and a fluffier brush (I like fan or stippling brushes) for application to ensure that you get the intensity you want, as you can apply less and build to the right level of color. However, even if you over-apply, the blush is blendable, so it is a more forgiving formula, but it is always easier to start with less and build up. Applied with a lighter hand, it almost looked coral-orange on my medium complexion. The color stayed put for a solid nine hours before it started to break down and fade.

The contrast with the paler one is really neat to have in that last photo, actually! I sill think that two-blush-cheeks should totally be a thing 😀
This is a lovely colour on you!
LOL! Maybe one day it will be 😉
Ooh! Out of all the MUG blushes, I think this is by far the most stunning on the cheek. I would never have guessed just seeing it in the pan.
It is really lovely on! 🙂
I have Chanel Presage and these are the prettiest colors on my sorta skin.. warm yellow undertones! No wonder it looks so pretty and natural on you Christine!
Presage is so nice! When I was in Arizona, I wore Presage as a base and layered this over, wore all day!
It’s really really pretty on you! Especially seeing it compared to the colour on the other cheek we can see how great this looks on you!
Thank you, Candice!
Be still my fluttery heart!! *_*
It’s such a pretty color!
Christine, how does this compare to MAC’s modern mandarin? I’ve heard it’s similar. Happy Independence Day!!!
Modern Mandarin is brighter, redder, and very shimmery! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=162286&dupe=167579
Beautiful!
Glad you liked it!
gorgeous colour
Agreed! 😀
Lovely. I wonder how this compares to Illamasqua’s Lover? Brighter and more orange?
Lover is more orange – definitely less of a reddish tone to it, and it is lighter by a bit! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=102049&dupe=167579
This looks like the perfect everyday blush. So pretty!
It would pop on your skin tone!
I am loving this colour so much! At first I wasn’t too sure, and was afraid that it would be too orange, however it’s totally growing on me 🙂
You can totally blend it out/sheer it out so it won’t be too orange!
Oooh gorgeous! I just got Head Over Heels and Bliss but I think this is going to be a part of my next MUG order 🙂 It looks lovely on you!
How does it compare to Tarte Tipsy?
Hey Chantal!
I don’t think I have Tarte Tipsy… I googled for a review/swatch from me, but no luck.
I was afraid this would be too orangey but it looks lovely on you, Christine! Guess a light hand is key. Going on my wishlist. 🙂
Thank you, Carly! 🙂 With blush, it’s so amazing how application can make a huge difference!
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t blown away by any of the other Makeup Geek blushes. A lot of them are pretty sure, but none were must have status. This one though? I NEED!
Ooh, I’m so glad finally one caught your eye, Lisa!
I was so tempted to include this one in my MUG haul, but took a pass. I thought the burnt part might be a little more evident. I was hoping for an orangish blush with a heavy hit of red in it. Those are the types of orange I can pull off. Not perfect by any means, but far better than others. I would have to swatch this one in person before I would feel more confidence in buying.
More in the spirit of like NARS Exhibit A? (perhaps a bit less red than that) Definitely not a very burnt color to me – more of a coral-ish shade than truly “burnt.”
Exactly..a cross between this and Exhibit A would be very interesting to me. I love Tom Ford Flush and I’ve always wondered why it works so well on me. If you look at the pan or swatch it, you can see the red tone in it. It seems to work well with my skin.
The first shade that popped in my head as a combo was theBalm’s Swiss Dot (http://www.temptalia.com/product/thebalm-instain-long-wearing-staining-powder-blush/swiss-dot) followed by Chanel’s Presage (cream) / Frivole (powder), but the two Chanel shades are a bit lighter.
Oh, how nice this blush looks! I must start making a list and get me some MUG blushes soon.
Hope you take the plunge sometime 😀
I have this and love it. I also have a Ocean City. Almost all the Makeup a Geek blushes are sold out. I scored three more last week. I’m waiting got them to restock.
Woza, that’s some pigment!
It is very pigmented!
