Shy

Makeup Geek Shy Iconic Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark rosy mauve with a lightly glossy, cream finish. The consistency was smooth, moderately emollient, and creamy without feeling heavy (but it had a thicker, denser texture). It covered the lips with full, even coverage that lasted for just over four hours on me. The formula was noticeably moisturizing while I wore it.

Proper

Makeup Geek Proper Iconic Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage, though you could still see a bit of my lip freckle peeking through. The consistency had a velvety, smooth feel to it that glided easily across the lips and did not tug, but it was a denser texture and had a tendency to look “cracked” when I smiled as the color pulled away around my deeper lip lines. This shade wore for three and a half hours and was a bit drying.

Spoiled

Makeup Geek Spoiled Iconic Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plum with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. The pigmentation was great, while the consistency was lightly creamy, thicker without being heavy, and was very comfortable to wear. It wore for five hours, left a pink stain behind, and was lightly hydrating overall.

Shy is the one that caught my eye from this line. I’m still not sure they’re worth the price. They’re $2 less than say Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks, but I get free shipping from several Urban Decay retailers including UrbanDecay.com. Plus several of those retailers have some type of rewards program. I feel like MUG’s line should have been between $10-$12 to reach their target market.

I agree that $10/12 would have worked better, particularly if they had gone with a more standard tube that could be filled with 0.10/0.12 oz.

Noticeably moisturizing, lightly hydrating, and a bit drying. That makes me realize that I know zero about cosmetics chemistry. I thought pigments were added to a base, and the base provided most of the ‘skincare ‘ aspects of a lip product. Why would one be drying and the other two moisturizing? Believe me, I do not doubt your accuracy. Often, you can recognize a formula ‘blindfolded,’ without really looking at it. If I put my hand in my bite bag and did not look, closed my eyes, and put it on, I would know whether the tube was LC or AB formula. Probably the same for UD Vice vs. Revolution… they aren’t in a bag, but you get the idea. I think of a formula as being a formula, and not having fairly big variations….like noticeably moisturizing vs a bit drying. I know this is nit picky and OCD, but weird, nonetheless. What is implied? That pigments really change the hydration value? QC? Don’t get it.

The way Proper feels is pretty different compared the others even if they share ingredients, since it is much more velvety (feels like it has a lot of silicones or some powder in it – more like MAC’s recent mattes). It definitely feels different on in terms of clinginess/how it adheres to the lips.

kjh: the line has 2 finishes: “butter shine” and “velvet matte”. I guess that’s why some are more moisturizing than others. I don’t own any of these lipsticks but I suppose the finish is not indicated in the tube, so that can be a problem.

Shy is quite nice and Spoiled is also good. I’d probably pick Shy out of the three though because I don’t have a lot of lighter lipstick shades that I like.

This range seems top notch – another congrats to MUG team for creating such a lovely range! Are there any “must-have” shades that are unique from this range that you wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere?

Of course I love Shy and Spoiled! Have 2 dupes listed for Shy, but not so sure about Spoiled, however? There is Bite Eggplant that I could try on next time I’m up at Sephora, though. ?
