Makeup Geek Romance Blush Review, Photos, Swatches
Makeup Geek Romance Blush
Makeup Geek Romance Blush ($9.99 for 0.15 oz. pan; $12.99 for 0.15 oz. compact) is described as a “soft rose with gold shimmer.” It’s a gold-shimmered, coral-orange with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. Becca Lychee/Opal (P, $27.00) is a cream product. MAC Petal Power (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery, pinker. Tom Ford Beauty Love Lust (P, $55.00) is darker, pinker. NYX Menage a Trois (P, $15.00) is very similar. NARS Orgasm (P, $29.00) is pinker. MAC Stereo Rose (LE, $30.00) is less golden. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
In the pan, one might think it’s the brand’s version of NARS Orgasm, but this is much warmer, more orange-based than pink. The texture is soft and smooth, lightly buttery, and the higher shimmer level doesn’t emphasize pores. It gives the skin a glowing, luminous sheen while the color is even and easily blended on the skin. It had good pigmentation and was true-to-pan in color. Applied, the blush lasted well for eight and a half hours before I noticed it looking faded.

Everytime I see the MUG blush review I see you wear the Givenchy lipstick and totally go crazy over it! Definitely getting this one! 🙂 Is it just me or this blush looks similar to MAC Style?
It might be! I think Style might be a bit darker.
i keep thinking the same thing when i see that lipstick!
Of the three I got, this one impressed me the most with it’s quality. I’d been hoping it would be a dupe for Orgasm, but even though it isn’t really, it gives the most amazing glow on the cheeks when applied. Looks gorgeous on you too, Christine 🙂
Thank you! It has hints of NARS Orgasm but definitely isn’t a dupe (for better or worse).
Although I don’t own this particular color, I’m very impressed with the quality of Makeup Geek’s products! I own many powder shadows, a creme (potted) shadow, and several blushes, including First Love; happily, I found that one to be very saturated (though pale) and not too powdery at all.
Happy to hear you’re enjoying the brand!
Definitely on the list to get!
Yay!
Stunning finish and color!
It is lovely!
holy crap this one looks so phenomenal on you. You can see really well in the photo how this melds with your skin, whereas the pinker cooler blush on your other cheek sits more on top. Not suggesting people can’t do both BTW, just noting how certain blushes can really vulcan meld with specific skintones and in this case..perfect for you! I picked this one up with my MUG order as well. It isn’t quite as pretty on me, running into orange territory, but not entirely hideous either due to shimmer 😉 A very wearable blush overall.
Totally get your meaning! There are colors that flatter me more than others but I’ll still wear (and enjoy) a shade that might not look the very best but still works!
exakery 😀
Reminds me of Sleek Rose Gold but less metallic
I’ve heard that’s a dupe for Orgasm so it may be pinker as well!
I don’t know if it’s the light in the photograph, but it seems you are wearing a different blush color in each cheek. Am I crazy?!
Yes, I am wearing two shades. The skin on my cheeks can only handle about 3-5 swatches, so in order to take photos, I only apply the color to one side so I can do 6-10 blushes when all my lighting and camera are set up.
How do you take them off to replace them. Do you have to reapply the foundation again and again?
For these photos, yes, which is why I can only do a few at a time. If I do too many, the skin will start to peel/flake/burn for the next 3-4 days, so I have to be careful not to overdo it, otherwise the change in my skin’s texture makes it harder to test blushes for wear. When I test for wear, I don’t wear foundation. For photos, my natural skin is not aesthetically pleasing enough to get away with 24/7 bare faced on the interwebs, LOL!
Oh, got it! I always wonder how you manage to swatch soo many things at once. Specially nail polishes, it takes me an hour to paint my nails, and sometimes you post 5, 6 nail polish swatches in a row!
And your skin is lovely!
If I’m doing nail swatches, it usually means an all-day process, but I will be at my desk or doing other things as I can while nails are drying 🙂
I think this looks better then NARS’ Orgasm.
I think they’re pretty different since this isn’t pink at all so it’s more a matter of what color you like! Both are nice quality blushes, though.
I agree. I personally think Orgasm is vastly over-hyped. I have it, but only because it came in a mixed palette.
Thats SUCH a pretty shade. Its like Nars Orgasm but better!!!! 🙂
Yay!
Oh yes, it does remind me a bit of NARS Orgasm 🙂 But yeah, just a tad different. Pretty!
Like the warmer cousin!
That’s it, ordering! LOL. I was curious whether this one would work as a stand alone blush or more of a highlighter, but it seems to look fine on its own.
What’s nice is that it seems to work well for either – for highlighting, just use a lighter application!
This blush is gorgeous!
It is!
This looks like a great, goes with everything kind of blush!
It’s very easy to wear if you’re warm-toned!
I think it might be too warm for me but I love the look!
I could see it leaning too orange!
Love the shimmer in this one.
Me too!
I get so excited when I see a MUG blush review up! I know it must take a while to get through all the shades, but I love each of them! Looks so similar to NARS Orgasm (as if we need more dupes for it!)
They’re really great!
Look at that sheen! It’s so beautiful!
I agree!
Just beautiful 🙂 I like that it isn’t *too* overtly shimmery – something that has kept me from NARS Orgasm (and I swatch it every time I go to MECCA Cosmetica :-P).
Me too! It’s just the right level of shimmer!
The lipstick you are wearing is just to die for
Thank you!
I put this on my wishlist when these blush swatches went up in the swatch gallery, then took it off, but I’ve just put it back on!! The more orange-y base looks makes its stand apart from the Orgasm dupes
(I own BareMinerals The Natural High).
Yep! The warmth/orange coloring makes it less like Orgasm for sure. Similar idea – warmer coral – but definitely not a dupe!
