Makeup Geek Duochrome Pigments Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)
Makeup Geek Prism Pigment
Makeup Geek Insomnia Pigment ($12.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “red-brown base with blue reflects.” It’s a warm, coppery-red base with bluish-teal shift. It’s one of the more common duochromes that you’ll find across brands (sometimes they lean blue, sometimes they lean green). The texture is smoother than the original iteration of this shade was, and it had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation applied dry but was more opaque damp. The color wore well for eight hours before fading. Makeup Geek Insomnia (P, $9.99) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Duabandita (LE, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC I've Got a Crush on You (LE, $32.50) is less shimmery (90% similar). Ardency Inn Peacock (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Makeup Geek Hologram Pigment ($12.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “orange-pink base with green and gold reflects.” It’s a medium pink-coral with warm undertones that shifts to a green-tinged gold with a metallic finish. It had one of the stronger duochromes in the release. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and smooth. It had semi-opaque coverage dry, fully opaque coverage damp, and damp application also yielded a brighter, more metallic sheen. This shade lasted for eight hours on me. Makeup Geek Karma (DC, $6.00) is warmer (90% similar). Touch in Sol Sun Aurora (4) (P, $18.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Wildfire Pigment ($12.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “red-coral base with gold reflects.” It’s a medium, rosy pink with warm undertones paired with gold frost. It was less of a duochrome and more of a nuanced color. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable, while the coverage was semi-sheer applied dry and mostly opaque applied damp. This shade wore well for eight hours. Natasha Denona Golden Rose (60M) (P, $29.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Frose (LE, $22.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Makeup Geek Prism Pigment ($12.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “white base with peachy-pink reflects.” It’s a light, gray-ish white with a frosted sheen that shifts to a warm pink-peach. The texture is very finely-milled but almost powdery on me, and it applied and was easier to work with over a base or patted over another eyeshadow to add a sheen as it looked dry on its own. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Dior Magnify #1 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (95% similar). Cle de Peau Cosmic Aura #2 (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). I bought Kaleidoscope and I didn’t like it, I ended up selling it on MUE. Did you have an issue with the jars cracking like a lot of other people had?
Hi Jenny!
Addressed this in part 1 – I even reached out and got an official response from Makeup Geek for it!
These are one of those things that I really find myself liking all of them and can’t decide and then with all the Holiday goodies coming, it’s just overwhelming. Then, I decided to just buy the whole set. Then it sold out! I really think she should have released these before the Holiday craziness started – You know for my sanity, lol. Wildfire and Insomia are gorgeous. But, I like other too. I think I need to watch some videos on working with the loose pigments because I’ve never done it. Any tips? Wet the brush? I’m assuming Glitter glue primer will be needed.
I usually just dampen the brush 🙂 I don’t find I need a strong adhesive with these!
Honestly, these Makeupgeek pigments are nothing when compared to Fyrinnae’s.
I’m glad you found a brand you like!
All thanks to you ?
Soooooooooooooo pretty! They’re all just so breathtaking 🙂
They are pretty shades!
Wildfire and Hologram could make for some interesting eye looks, but I will not be getting any MUG pigments until their cracking container issue is resolved and fixed.
Hopefully that is soon!
Hologram and Wildfire are really pretty! Definitely getting them.
Yay!
Wildfire and Holgram are pretty! I might get them
They are! Really cool shades.
wow, those are really DUOchromes! I really like the color shifts they all show! I love duochromes!
Me too, Kelly 😀
I think Hologram and Wildfire could be beautiful over a glitter glue primer, but if I try MUG again, I want the packaging issues thoroughly resolved,
I bet they would be pretty over a primer!
I am not really a fan of these types of eye shadows – I prefer pressed powders. I think I could easily end up with a mess on my face, however these colours are very pretty.
I totally understand! I prefer pressed, too, but loose is so pretty!
All very pretty!
They are!
Hologram reminds me a lot of Fyrinnae’s Rapunzel Had Extensions, which is also such a gorgeous color!
I can see some resemblance, Carlene!
I like most of these. Putting them on the wishlist for later.
Hologram and Wildfire are my favourites, and would look good together, I think.
They’re really complex!
I love these duo chrome pigments! I bought most of the pressed shades, and the hologram and chameleon pigment. PERFECT and so beautiful! I did receive one cracked jar with hologram, contacted them and just received my perfectly intact replacement jar today! It was easy to transfer. I’m glad the ones I got received some of your highest ratings!
Woohoo! Glad you got your replacement jar.
These all look so different in the container. Glad I saw swatches!
Prism and Hologram look freaking stunning!
