Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

MAKE UP FOR EVER once again leads the beauty industry into the next era of makeup innovation and technology. As the original pioneer of the HD makeup category, MAKE UP FOR EVER continues to redefine and elevate beauty standards with the launch of its new ULTRA HD FOUNDATION, the first and only foundation designed for the demands of 4K technology. With 4K technology, the next generation of digital devices will display images with unbelievable detail, stunning clarity, and heightened color than existing HD technology. Completely invisible under the latest, ultra-magnified resolution, these innovative foundation formulas look completely natural on camera – and to the naked eye.

To keep complexions flawless at any resolution, MAKE UP FOR EVER developed ULTRA HD FOUNDATION’s revolutionary 4K Complex. This innovative formula is enhanced with:

  • Amino Acid Coated Pigments—reflective particles that blur flaws and provide translucent, invisible coverage
  • Hyaluronic Spheres—hydrate and plump the skin for a longer, more comfortable wear
  • Sericite—a fine grained mica that adds light reflecting properties to create a radiant and luminous effect, mimicking the vibrancy of naturally beautiful skin

As a result, ULTRA HD FOUNDATION provides complete, silky coverage while staying even more invisible, feeling even more comfortable, and looking even more natural. The next generation of MAKE UP FOR EVER’s iconic HD Foundation is optimized for the digital lifestyle, offers nearly double the original HD Foundation’s shade range and is available in both liquid and stick formulas. The perfect everyday foundation, ULTRA HD LIQUID FOUNDATION is available in 40 shades and provides medium coverage with a natural finish in a lightweight, oil-free formula. As an alternative to liquid for a flawless complexion and also ideal for touch ups and contouring, ULTRA HD STICK FOUNDATION is offered in 15 shades that blend beautifully onto normal to dry skin.

same! i’m smack dab between kevyn aucoin sse sx01 and sx02 so i’m curious about whether y205 or y215 will be a better fit. then again, i’m so satisfied with mixing the aucoins that i don’t think i’m gonna buy any more foundation for a good while.

Sericite mica is a wonderful ingredient! I still have some from when I used more mineral makeup fundation as it would help the texture of full coverage foundation I had to be more smooth. I added 1:8 ratio of it (1 scoop to 8 scoops of that foundation).

I’m not sure if I should pick up Y205 or Y215. Y205 is looking to lean a touch more pink to me. >_<

A very nice lady at my local Sephora said the liquid version will debut this weekend! I’m not sure if I’m more excited for this or for the Minions movie… 😀

I bought the HD foundation at the Makeup Show in May to test it out and I love it (I was matched to Y225 (117)). It goes on beautifully, and so smooth. As I was waiting to be color-matched, I watched as an artist was applying the foundation to a model while being filmed. On the large screen, her skin looked flawless. No shine, not flat. The color is build-able. I like more of a light coverage, but build to a medium coverage when I go out at night. I can’t even feel it. The only thing I think about, when selecting for a client, is choosing a shade. There are just so many shades. Y and R helps. 🙂

I could never get a match in MUFE HD foundation. Maybe the Alabaster shade would be light enough. I hope so coz I’ve always wanted to try it

Tessa Avatar

A+ to the expansive range of skin tone options! Darker and paler options? YAY!

Must try to keep my snark level acceptable about that eye and face contouring job on the lighter skinned model on the promo pic… oh, boy.

Too bad no SPF but I’m loving the shade range. I’m eyeing this and Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, which is getting rave reviews from many bloggers

Daheep Avatar

Don’t feel too badly about it; SPF in makeup products is a marketing ploy! You would need to put a ridiculous amount of foundation on (approx 1/2 tsp or nickel – quarter sized amount) for any SPF in it to be effective. Without it, there’s no worrying about allergies to certain types of SPF actives for picture flashback.

I’ve been eyeing the Too Faced one too! I’m looking forward to getting samples from Sephora to test them both out.

I agree! I always put sunscreen under my foundation anyway, but I figure it wouldn’t hurt if the foundation had SPF as well. But many brands don’t add SPF to foundation, probably because it’s trickier to formulate, and they worry people will get allergic reactions. Yeah, I’m definitely going to be grabbing samples of this to test out. Hope it works for you!

I’m not a fan of the formula that is out now. it seems so cakey and dry on me. I am willing to give this a try though. I know it’s a long shot, but I wonder if the stick formula will be similar to the Tom Ford stick formula which I love in the colder months.

Max Factor was actually the “original pioneer” for the HD cosmetic industry… They did a range I believe in the late-80’s, long before MUFE existed as a brand.

If I can find something with the right undertone, I may give this a try. However, the fact they’re divided into Y or R leaves me skeptical.

Karen Avatar

I am SO eager to try this formula out. I currently use MUFE’s HD foundation, but I’m nearly out of it, so I want to give the Ultra HD a try as a potential new foundation. But I hate committing to foundation before trying it out for a bit, so I need to stop by Sephora to pick up a sample. Except none of the press releases have really mentioned a firm day when this is supposed to be released so…. I’m not sure when the new foundation will be out on shelves with testers and everything.

Claire Renee Avatar

Sounds awesome. I use 117 in the current HD foundation and in winter it is a touch dark. I think it is better to have them divided between R and Y. I also reallyreally hope they have addressed the issues with the cap constantly coming off the bottle whilst it is in a makeup case. Not only does this happen to me in my makeup bag, when I received an order of it from Sephora last year the outside of the bottle was covered in leaked foundation and the cap was askew…inside the foundation box! I emailed Sephora customer service and they were ho-hum you can return it. Yes…but I live outside of city where Sephora is and it seems that I’d be paying postage (fr Canada)to return it. Annoying as hell. It is still sitting on my vanity within the mucky box…..

Symone Avatar

Can’t wait to try, hoping Praline will be a good match because I didn’t like 175 or 177 for my skin tone. So I’m looking forward to this one.

Cate Avatar

Yep! I work at a drugstore. We only carry lighter shades in foundation, which is so frustrating as someone who cares about being inclusive, but the real problem is with the brands themselves. It is so horrible that most cosmetics brands cater mainly to lighter skinned folks.

Unfortunately, MUFE is too expensive for a lot of people, so we can only hope that more drugstore brands try to branch out into wider shade ranges.

Hildegerd Avatar

Yves Rochers foundation (both the one that came out in 2014 and this year) caters to deeper skin tones as well. Gorgeous foundations and not too expensive.

Lisa Avatar

I’m so excited for this release! I tried the old HD foundation, but in the colder months when I have flaky patches it really shows. I found it almost a bit drying. (My rosacea gets worse during winter). I hear the new formula is a tad less matte which I like. One thing I hate about the old foundation is the packaging. Too bulky and the lid pops off so easily. I hope they will rectify that.

Erica Avatar

Some of the bigger city Sephoras already have the Ultra HD Liquid out! I was able to get one and was super lucky to get my color, all the other colors were WIPED OUT! It’s pretty amazing ladies… I can actually take selfies without using filters now 🙂

Erica Avatar

Wow they have my shade (177) in the new formulations – liquid and stick! Knock me over with a feather. I’m still enjoying my old version from the 2014 Fall Sephora sale. Looking forward to reading the comments from others who have tried it.

Allison Avatar

I like the original HD Velvet Mat, but I wasn’t able to find a really good match. In the meantime, I like the NARS Luminous Weightless All Day Foundation but I couldn’t find a good color match in that line either. It looks like there are quite a few pink-leaning shades in the new liquid foundation.

Rachel R. Avatar

That’s great they added paler options, but I’m geussing Y=warm undertones and R = cool undertones. Are we pale, neutral woman going to have the same old “too yellow or too pink” dilemma.

Maggie Avatar

Looking forward to trying. The normal HD formula doesn’t look great on me and I could never get an exact match either.

Kat Avatar

That shade range though! I’ve been interested in the original HD foundation, but unsure of my color match. I don’t think I’d have a problem here! And I like that they have very dark and very light shades in both undertones, I find that some shade ranges tend to neglect undertones at the two extremes of depth (esp. dark shades).

Victoria Avatar

I was sent this and while it matched I found the formula disgustingly thick in a thin way like grease that’s not oily but feels it. Color range is well done in my opinion and can be tweeked easily. Please note the other MUFE formula also did not work for me so my opinion does not matter

Jamie Avatar

I want to see it tried out on women with mature skin, with deep lines, discoloration, pores and acne scars. Putting it on perfect skin doesn’t impress me.

J Avatar

I just bought the shade 128=Y415 in the “Stick Foundation”. I talked to the lady at Sephora and asked her if she tried the liquid. She replied she did and loved it. I asked her is it the same as the Stick? I told her i have oily kinda skin. She said that the STICK would be a much better choice. She used a photo scan on my clear unmade face and matched me with what i purchased. To say the least i have not used it for a full day yet, but it is amazing the stick formula. Its creamy and u do NOT need a lot. I apply dots over my face and then blend with a beauty blender. Perfect =]

the stick was not supposed to be released until September but luckily for me they put it out early cause the liquid foundation she said is not so good for oily skin, FYI…
