FORMULA OVERVIEW | Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a powder eyeshadow available in five distinct finishes: Diamond, Iridescent, Matte, Metallic, and Satin. The texture of all finishes, except the Matte finish, are much denser and more like a cream-powder hybrid. I’ve used traditional eyeshadow brushes (like MAC’s 239, a go-to for me) with these and have hadn’t any issues, but for those who have, I would recommend a firmer, flatter synthetic brush (like MAC 242) to maximize payoff and application. The Diamond and Iridescent finishes have sparkle or micro-glitter, and I have found that the majority of shades have little to no fall out over time for me. The Metallic is the richest, smoothest formula out of the five finishes. The Mattes are soft and silky–much smoother and more finely-milled than the brand’s last formula–but these are sometimes sheerer, though buildable, and can be a little dusty or powdery to work with. The Mattes typically apply well and blend out without issue. The Satin finish feels the firmest of the five finishes but is the most blendable and pigmented; some are closer to metallic and others are more like a natural matte on. I get seven to ten hour wear, depending on the shade, across the range. The eyeshadows are larger than standard (0.08 oz. per the packaging). For the most bang for your buck, consider purchasing two ($32.00) or three at once ($46.00) or watch for seasonal releases of palettes (just be careful if you’ve already bought a few–the brand repeats very often).

Not sure I could pull any of those off, maybe pinky copper.
Aw, drat!
Gorgeous shadow. Black Bronze and Pinky Copper are my favorites. (BTW, The last two images for Golden Snake are coming up as broken for me.)
Thank you! Golden Snake is only a two-image one, so I only see one broken image, but I removed that!
I think I have Black Bronze already or another MUFE Artist shade that’s close, but I’m glad you are reviewing the rest of the MUFE shadows. Overall, it’s a great formula, and I might pick up a few more unique colors during next Sephora sale (hopefully April) to round out my stash.
I love the Artist formula!
D708 Pinky Copper is definitely my kind of color! I love a great rose-gold copper type shade to bring out the bluer aspects of my teal toned outer part of my iris! Can make my eyes appear very blue-green.
It would be great on the inner tearduct!
I picked up D416 CRYSTALLINE YELLOW and D504 CELESTIAL BEIGE at IMATS Toronto last year because the shades were so pretty and nude. But the biggest surprise was that they were very different on my pale skin tone. 😉
How do they show up on you?
D504 CELESTIAL BEIGE read like a light but still allover lid colour because of how pale I am, while D416 CRYSTALLINE YELLOW is still that inner highlight colour. Both shades I feel on other skin tones would read much lighter overall as a inner corner highlight. lol
lol!
Black Bronze is just gorgeous! If I can get my greedy hands on it, it will be my next MUFE eyeshadow.
It’s such a rich shade!
Beautiful quality shadows! Definitely worth the money!
I totally agree, Claire! 😀
Am I the only one who saw the picture of D326 and thought of Oreo cookies ?
Haha!
You know I love MUFE shadows, but warm browns and yellows are not really my shades — these are the kinds of shadows I want for my future pro kit. I have D504 Celestial Beige from a palette and love it. D640 Golden Snake is just a seriously beautiful eyeshadow. I may have to add it to my personal collection at some point.
Golden Snake has such a lovely tone!
The swatches didn’t convince me, but your eye looks turned it all around! So pretty.
Thank you!
beautiful..beautiful shadows… I swear you’ve converted me into a full-time fan of MUFE eye-shadows. Honestly not satisfied with any other brand at the moment!! This is terrible for my wallet :O
LOL! Your poor wallet, Melissa!
I noticed that you said gold nugget is a dupe for loracs “Unlimited” shade. I know you said for the super metallic shades in Lorac pro palette some of them bunched up on each other when applied wet, specifically the deeper bronze shade. But did you have any problems with Unlimited when applied damp? Or did it go on completely smooth? I noticed that Unlimited has a higher rating than Gold nugget, so just curious.
I don’t think I used Unlimited damp? I don’t specifically recall, since that was awhile ago, but unless it is a wet/dry formula, I don’t try dry formulas wet.
Ah, makes sense. I usually think more shimmery shades go on better wet. But by it being a soft crumbly texture what do you exactly mean by that? Like even though it was baked it almost seemed more loose? Was it difficult to work with? I really want to find a true yellow gold shade that goes on really smoothly without it looking uneven or choppy :/
LORAC has a softer press – so when you take your brush to it, more product loosens and it doesn’t bind together as well as MUFE! Neither are hard to use, but they’re very different textures! 🙂
