Make Up For Ever Cheerful Burgundy & Might Maroon Rouge Artist Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Cheerful Burgundy (418)
Make Up For Ever Cheerful Burgundy (418) Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020) ($23.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a deep, rusty red with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was buildable on most of my lips, but it was sheerer and overly emollient on the inner area of my lips.
The consistency felt lightweight, thin, and more velvety, but it had moderate slip, which made it more prone to emphasizing my lip texture. It stayed on well for five hours and felt lightly hydrating.

Formula Overview
$23.00/0.11 oz. - $209.09 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to "blur, smooth, and hydrate" with "intensity of a matte and the comfort of a cream" and delivers "ultra-pigment[ation]." The consistency reminded me of the more new-school "matte" formulas that feel velvety without wetness/shine--the ones that feel more silicone-heavy and primer-like, which are often thinner, too. I'd say that the new Rouge Artist formula has a little more traditional creaminess, so there was a satin shine (which was as marketed--satin finish!).
The consistency was smooth, lightweight, and thin without feeling clingy. In the close-up photos, there were several shades that looked like there were little bits scattered on my lips, almost like it had pilled, though I didn't feel it when I pressed my lips together and couldn't see it in person.
They had mostly opaque to opaque color coverage in a single layer. Most shades applied evenly and sat well enough on my lips, though there were some that emphasized my lip lines slightly. They wore for four to six hours on me with some of the very rich, deeper shades lasting a little longer than that. The formula felt mostly non-drying to lightly hydrating to me.
There was a sweet, slightly floral scent that was noticeable on for the first few minutes, but I didn't notice any taste.

Mighty Maroon (420)
Make Up For Ever Mighty Maroon (420) Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020) ($23.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium-dark burgundy with warmer undertones and a satin sheen. It had medium to semi-opaque pigmentation, which applied somewhat evenly, but the product did not seem to be mixed appropriately as I got little clumps of product all over my lips–visible in the close-up photo and not really noticeable nor something I could feel if I pressed my lips… but a great formula does not look that way on, close-up or not.
The texture was lightly creamy, thin but not clingy, and had moderate slip. It lasted for five hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Cheerful Burgundy isn’t horrible, but not so hot, either. I’d rather have one of its better dupes.
And Mighty Maroon is mighty bad!
The shades are so vibrant, but the formula is not – especially when you are paying so much for the lipstick. Getting bits of lipstick clumping on your lips is not a good look or feel. A disappointment.
I really like both when it comes to colour. I have at least two dupes for Cheerful Burgundy and a possible dupe for Mighty Maroon. I’m glad I have dupes as both of these had issues, Maroon a lot worse than Burgundy, though Maroon was the worst one.
I seem to remember MUFE being a really good brand, the they reformulated the rather amazing eyeshadows and now they release a lipstick the gives little clumps on the lips. Not good.
