Make Up For Ever C103 Artist Rouge Lipstick
Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to be long-wearing, “extremely pigmented,” and hydrating. It is available in two finishes–Cream and Matte, indicated by the C or M in the beginning of each shade’s name. The Cream formula is richly pigmented, lightly creamy without being too emollient or slippery, and go on smoothly and feel good while worn (wear ranges from four to eight hours, depending on the shade). The Matte formula is thinner and clings somewhat to lips, though it goes on nicely and doesn’t tug, and it doesn’t always look flattering on as it can emphasize imperfections on my lips but really depends on the shade, as some look great on. I found the Cream formula to be moderately hydrating, while the Matte formula was slightly to moderately drying. All shades had a slight, rosy scent to them, though I didn’t notice any taste.
Make Up For Ever C103 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a very light, pink-tinged beige with a creamy, lightly shiny finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff, but the real feat here was how evenly it applied, despite being a very light shade. The consistency was creamy, comfortable, and felt hydrating over the four hours it lasted. I did have a little bit of the color gather in my lip lines over time. Make Up For Ever C104 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium rosy peach with warm undertones and a creamy, lightly shiny finish. It had great pigmentation that applied with smooth, even coverage and sat well on the lips. The consistency was creamy enough to glide on and fill in lip lines to give the illusion of healthier lips while not being too emollient and sliding around. It wore well for four and a half hours and was nicely hydrating. Tom Ford Beauty Edie (P, $36.00) is more shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Tarte Pink Lemonade (P, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). The color coverage was opaque, while the texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and comfortable to wear. It applied evenly and didn’t cling to the lips. This shade wore well for just over four hours on me and was lightly hydrating over time. Bobbi Brown Pale Mauve (DC, $37.00) is cooler (95% similar). It’s so nice to see good ratings on light lipstick shades. C105 and C104 where calling me.
I was so pleased! It bodes well for the rest of the line!
They’re very pale, but I think I could work C105.
Awesome!
Beautiful lipsticks! I love how they look on you.
Thanks, Lory!
C104 and C105 are totes my thing.. have dupes galore
p.s. your write up is jumbled.. the shade numbers are not lined up properly with descriptions. The photos and labels on the photos look correct.
Fixed, sorry about that!
Impressive coverage for such pale, almost ‘mod’ nudes! Pretty certain these would look deathly on me, but great for lighter skintones. C105 being as close as it is to MAC Modesty and VG II will encourage me to use those 2 more often.
They covered well!
I am so glad you started out with nude shades!! I think Make Up For Ever C104 & 105 Artist Rouge Lipstick are my favourite shades!!
Woohoo!
Not my colors, but WOW, super impressed by how well they did these pale nude colors — as rich and smooth as red lipsticks, not patchy, clingy, no settling into lip lines. Hands down, these are the best pale nudes I’ve ever seen. Well done MUFE, well done.
Right? They got the balance in creaminess right!
Hurray! The MUFE new lipstick reviews begin! I quite like C105. Pinky nudes are completely acceptable at work.
We got a long way to go, haha!
You mentioned they have a rose scent to them… do you feel it’s the same scent as Make Up For Ever’s original lipstick line? I cannot stand the scent of that previous line and it’s made me avoid their lipsticks. 🙁
Hey Chelle!
I checked but my original MUFEs have no scent now and I don’t remember from before 🙁
Thank you for checking! I’ll just have to give them a whiff when I spot them in Sephora. 🙂
Not my type of shades but I love the look of them. Light shades can be so finicky and these look very nice.
These super light shades can be harder to do!
Ooooh give me all the pale pink lipsticks! These look great!
Haha! 😉
These are totally not my kind of shades, but I’m super impressed they did light beiges so well!!! I hope this quality runs through the whole line bc I have my eye on the blues. Never enough blue lipstick! ?
It bodes well for the rest of the line!
I think I might like 105 on my lips, the other two are way too pale and would make me look as if I was auditioning as an extra in a zombiemovie 🙂
Awww! 😉
I never would have worn colors like this in the past, but while at the MAC store in Tiimes Square several years ago, I was inttoduced to their color Jubilee. I thought it was much too light, but the consultant put it on with a LE liner called “I Have to Have It”. It was a peachy shade one drop darker than their Boldly Bare pencil. Then I tried it on with their Hover pencil, which they describe as a caramel brown,, but I find it compliments my golden red hair so well that I would describe it as a more reddish, copper brown. When I use this pencil around any of my lipsticks, it brings out the peachy brown tones that look so well on me. I had the Boldly Bare pencil from a prior Nordstrom summer anniversary sale gift of what they described as nude lips. It had the above pencil, a pale peachy pink lipstick, and G-d knows why, a bright pink gloss! I gave the gloss to my daughter, used the pencil, but couldn’t figure out how to wear such a light color. I didn’t understand how they could call lthat nude, I considered nude to be a light brown color, sort of like Jubilee. But when I realized that I could use Hover to make all my lightt lipsticks work, I tried it with that pale peachy pink who’s name I never knew because is was a very LE creamsheen. Now that combination is my favorite summer shade, and I look at all these peachy pinks that I previously would have just skipped over in a new light. Especially because that lipstick is getting low and my Jubilee is gone, and I’d love to find a dupe for that lipstick. I took it to the MAC counter and they matched it with Saigon Spice, and they looked pretty darn close in the store, But at home, Saigon Spice is brighter, pinker and frosted, so Hover does not give it the perfect nude look for my complexion. It would probbly look better on a Strawberry Blonde, someone who can wear brighter colors and doesn’t need as much brown in them. That brings me to these colors and all the people who said they would never consider such colors. I was one of them!! Try using one of your favorite darker liners around paler colors, and then purse your lips together. MAC’s regular pencils are creamy enough that if you apply them Bobbi Brown’s way, after you apply the lipstick, and then purse your lips, the pencil blends into the lipsitck and gives you a brand new shade with an ombre effect, with the center being lighter than the margins – that look seems to be coming back in style anyway, but makeup artists always put a drop of gloss in thecenter of the lip to lighten it and make the lips look fuller. This does it wiithout the gloss. So don’t be afraid of pale colors as long as they match your undertones, either cool or warm. Line an appropriately toned pale shade with a much darder pencil in the same color family and let them blend by pursing your lips. This will bring life to pale colors your already own, as well as open up a whole new range of colors to explore ( costly yes, fun definitely!!) I don’t know about these particular colors. I find that colors swatched on your arm appear darker on me than in the swatch, so the bottom two are probably too bright. But the first one, which I would have laughed at a year ago, may actually be a good dupe for my discontinued MAC orphan!! I’ll try to check it out, thanks!!
I’m so glad that Hover is your answer to all those lipsticks that didn’t quite work for you!
I have C105 and love it. It is not too pink like Barbie and not too peachy yellow. It is the perfect nude pink. I do’t think it leans warm or cool on me. They got the color balance perfect.
Woohoo! Happy to hear you’re digging it.
