MAC x Guo Pei 129 & 213 Brushes Reviews & Photos (Quick)
MAC x Guo Pei 129 Blush Brush
MAC x Guo Pei 129 Blush Brush ($46.00) is a specially packaged edition of MAC’s standard blush brush (which costs $35.00 normally). It is one of my least favorite brushes, even for a MAC brush, as it scratchy and rough. It only takes a couple of washings before it loses the majority of its softness. It also sheds. The Guo Pei version is no different, unfortunately. It is pretty to look at but painful to use! The shape is perfect for blush application, as it isn’t too small or too large with a lightly domed edge, moderate density, and some spring/give.
MAC x Guo Pei 213 Eyeshadow Brush ($32.00) is a small, fluffy eyeshadow brush beset for applying, packing, and blending out powder products on the eye. It is also a brush shape that is available in the permanent range (which costs $25.00 normally) that has been specially packaged for the collaboration. I like this brush, but I prefer a lot of others (at similar price points) over it as it is somewhat soft and can be a little rough along the edges. The Guo Pei edition seems to have a better edge than some of my standalones, as it is more even.

I’m skipping these. For that price, I’d rather get a blush or lippie from this collection. I’m doing fine with cheap Elf and EcoTool brushes, and after splurging on the Chikuhodo Sakura set from Beautylish, I’m good. Is that floral design fabric or vinyl? If you want to wash the brushes, can you slip the fabric off?
It seemed glued on to me! It doesn’t twist, and it sits between the two metal parts of the brush (bottom and the ferrule).
Oh wow, I hope the glue and fabric doesn’t get gummy or become undone after a few washing. At this price, maybe they could’ve laminated the design onto the handle.
I’m passing.
I would, too 🙁

The beginning descriptions both say the same brush number 🙂
Fixed!
Great that you even review the brushes of this collection!
I’d like to indicate a tiny mistake in the review test. Both paragraph start with “MAC x Guo Pei 129 Blush Brush” while I understant that the second paragraph refers to the eye brush 🙂
Fixed!
While these both look pretty with their lovely design on them, these are not my favorite ones either. Oh well, they tried, I suppose.
I wish they’d improve the 129!
So expensive! I won’t but em 🙁
🙁
Too bad the 129 feels so scratchy! 🙁 But yeah, it sure is pretty.
The 129 is a sad brush 🙁
Such a hefty price for such poor quality? And as the covering isn’t removable – that just seems not well thought out at all!
It never even occurred to me prior to getting comments on this post that one would want the covering to be removable, to be honest! I feel like I would lose it if it was, haha.
The fabric on these brushes is gorgeous but I do not at all like the way it’s attached to the brush. Sewing around the brush and leaving an extended seam of fabric just looks cheap to me or like it was done as a lazy shortcut. This is also something that annoys me about the look of Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes/Flashes/Splashes mascara packaging.
That’s an interesting point! I wonder if it was done as a cheap route or if they thought it was the better aesthetic.
What blush brush would you recommend, Christine? Mine is old and needs replacing.
What’s your application style? Face size? (Like are most blush brushes too big, too small, or just right?)
