MAC Viva Glam Gaga 2 Lipglass

MAC Viva Glam Gaga 2 Lipglass ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “light neutral pinked beige.” In reality, I found it more of a neutral light-medium beige with subtle white micro-shimmer. The finish was creamy, not quite milky, but as such, there was some settling into lip lines. It is a thicker gloss, too, so be careful when applying it to ensure an even finish (also avoiding smooshing your lips together too much, as it will push around the gloss and making it look uneven).

my thoughts on the formula: MAC Lipglasses are vanlla-scented, and they are typically thick and sticky. However, because of their tackiness, they do tend to wear better and longer (four hours for me).

  • Product: 25/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

final thoughts: The color itself is a great neutral nude; I do see it working for most skin tones and under tones, assuming you like nudes. It’s not too pale, not too deep that it’s more brown than beige. Surprisingly, I couldn’t come up with a great MAC dupe for this shade; it is closest to Illicit but it’s less orange.  C-Thru would be your closest within the permanent range but much paler.

Hey do you think the lipstick could work with asian skin nc20? How does it compare to Peachstock.
Oh and ive been hunting for a great barbie pink like what Katy Perry wore at the Grammy’s in 2009, yes i know, such a long time ago and i havent figured! Haha i was guessing Snob or Saint Germain but they dont carry it in my country so i cant swatch em! Do you think they’d suit my skintone?

Christine Avatar

Please read the lipstick review post, which includes a comparison – thank you!

You’ll have to be careful what you wear on eyes/cheeks, because pale pinks like Snob and Saint Germain are tough to pull off, particularly for warmer skin tones like your NC20 skin tone!

Wow! Talk about pigmentation for a nude lipglass! That’s really awesome. I wonder if I could find some use for it. I don’t wear colors this nude alone (Brave New Bronze and Shy Girl are my lightness limit I think) but what it could layer over seems exciting..

This seems to be too beige for my skin tone, but I will certainly swatch it as soon as I can. I love to support the Viva Glam campaign, so most probably I will get the lipglass and/or the lipstick!

Thanks for being so quick to get these reviews out, you are truly the BEST!! I like the colors, not as much as the first ones last year w/Gaga and Cyndi, but I do like them.

I was going to mention that i did not like the up close swatch and that this would be a pass, but the full face picture might have changed my mind. Hmm. I must go to my store and swatch away!

Amber Avatar

oooooh i have been waiting for your swatches/comparisons on this – I am going to try it on soon – I really hope it works for me! Thank you so much for all your hard work.

Perhaps pairing this gloss over a pink-based lipstick works better…it looks so pretty swatched, but not that great on the lips.

Another thing for me to play around with at Mac!

This gloss looks great on you! Thanks for the comparisons and reviews. These really help (even though I already ordered it the second it came online LOL)

I was surprised at how pretty this looked in the tube. I thought it was just going to be a flat nude. I think it looks prettier on its own rather than paired w/ the lipstick. I also think it could be a pretty versatile shade depending on what lipstick or liner you wear underneath.

The lipglass is great, and I still haven’t given up hope for either the VG Gaga liglass or lipstick! I hope my MAC Cork or Hodgepodge lip pencils will see me through these!

Hi christine!

i love the gloss on you, how long does it last for? i bought a nude gloss/lipcolor from the peacocky line, but it doesnt last for very long. and also do you think the lipstick would look good on my asian skin? i am nc45 and almost always wear bronzer (refined golden) thanx!

I just went and bought the lipglass only and I love it, it isn’t streaky on me at all, but maybe I layered it a bit, it looks fantastic 🙂

I just bought both lipstick and lipgloss from the MAC counter ! I am usually a NC30 and this nude is so gorgeous. It doesnt make me look too washed out and it isn’t as drying as Myth. Although both have a different undertone. I love love love this combination. I cannot wait to wear this along with a smoky eye look tomorrow 🙂

Christine, do you know how this compares to Frankly Fresh from Liberty of London? It’s the only nude-type shade I have from MAC to judge this by. Thanks!

Jessica Avatar

I think both the lipstick and gloss look great on you! I have a weird observation/question, though – is that a long black hair on your top lip in the lipstick + lipglass photo? I hope it doesn’t come off as rude – I know how sticky lipgloss can be sometimes! haha

Michelle Avatar

I initially wasn’t interested in this. But I still went to my mac counter to try it. I tried the lipstick first and was like, meh, but when I added the lipglass over it.. Omg! Perfection! I ended up buying both! I am currently inlove!

Vanilla Avatar

I would say the same thing after seeing the swatches here. The lipstick by itself was okay. The lipglass by itself was kinda meh. But then you put them together and all of a sudden it’s amazing! Gonna have to get them both now.

Gina Avatar

talk about showing every imperfection on your lips…what a waste but I guess it is ok if you want to walk around looking like a corpse or that you forgot to wipe your food off your lips.

Emily Avatar

You should use lipliner with this product or else it will look corpse/scaley like. Also applying with a brush will totally help. and I think the lipglass over the lipstick really helps. When I tried just the lipstick itself, it looks pretty bad!

mb Avatar

i just bought the lipgloss and it is a really nice nude lipgloss…I think if you are interested in the lipglass/lipstick, you should go try it on…b/c you’d be surprised on how many people of different color/skin tones it looks really good on. I personally love it and think its the perfect nude lipgloss for me. Hope this helps! 🙂

Vvn Avatar

would have been amazing if this was a Cremesheen! hahahaha, but I think I much prefer the gloss over the lipstick, might pick up both actually!

Emily Avatar

This combination works the best (in my opinion) if you also use ‘Spice’ lip liner before applying the viva glam gaga 2 lipstick and lipglass! Also, applying the lipstick with a lip brush will make the color look less scaly and too ‘white/washed out’! I love it! When trying on just the lipstick or lipglass by itself, it doesn’t look too good (on me at least). It looks scaly and too white/washed out, but the lipliner totally did the trick and blew the color out of the world!

Megs Avatar

I think LE Liberty of London Frankly fresh is a great dupe for this and I find it not sticky and doesnt settle into lines. but theyre around same price and Frankly fresh is only available online now I think… This colour would look great over any nude or to tone down brighter colours like Coral:)Bear in mind nude lip colours only look fantastic when wearing the right lipliner. Otherwise they wash ones lips out I think!
