MAC Surf Baby: Skinsheen Bronzer Stick

MAC Skinsheen Bronzer Sticks ($29.50 for 0.49 oz.) are jumbo-sized creamy, twist-up sticks of bronzing power. There are three shades: Billionaire Bronze (warm golden tan), Gilty Bronze (coppery bronze with gold shimmer), and Tan Tint (soft suntan bronze).

  • Billionaire Bronze is a medium-dark tan with warm, golden undertones. It has a soft natural sheen but no shimmer. It doesn’t have the shimmer that Beach Bronze cream bronzer from To the Beach (’10) has, but it is similar in the color. I’m not sure if NARS has something comparable; possibly Malaysia.
  • Gilty Bronze is a darkened, coppery bronze with a strong frosted finish. It seems most comparable to NARS Palm Beach.
  • Tan Tint is a soft, slightly warmed over tan with a near matte finish. It is less golden than Billionaire Bronze. It’s less red-based and doesn’t have shimmer, but it resembles Weekend cream bronzer from To the Beach (’10). This seems similar to NARS Cap Vert.

These are really pigmented–don’t just swipe the whole stick across your face. I did so to swatch, and it was like, “WHOA! there!” You’ll want to pat the stick against the skin to deposit color, and then blend it out. These are easy to blend, but they dry down quick enough that I recommend doing one area at a time. It’s been about eight hours since I’ve applied Billionaire Bronze, and it’s still going strong. Despite being really pigmented, they feel very lightweight and look natural overall (though Gilty Bronze doesn’t look natural, with the heavier frosted finish).

NARS’ The Multiples feel very much like these, and MAC’s variation is about the same size (0.49 oz. compared to NARS at 0.50 oz.). There was something off about the way MAC did the packaging, though–something about it feels a little cheap. They just didn’t feel as sturdy or as robust as other packaging types in MAC’s line-up, though realistically, I don’t see these breaking or coming apart either.

I am ruling out the coppery Gilty bronze. But between the other two, which would be best for NC 44, I have never owned NARS multiples specifically because of the price.

Yes!!!!!!!! Must buy! I’ve been on the hunt for NARS cap vert here in Canada to no avail. So excited! Thanks for the great swatches

Ewww I can picture a lot of people going overboard with this. Then again, bronzer madness is one of my biggest pet peeves!

dunno, either they’re patchy or hard to blend or clash with the other makeup. I don’t think they were applied quite where or how they were intended– looks like they were used where a blush would go? and I don’t think they’re meant to be used so heavily, more like a skunk across the product then dusted where the sun would hit (top of cheek, forehead, not apples/contours of the cheek)

Might pick up Tan Tint-I’ve been wanting Nars’ Cap Verte for awhile now and this is a slightly more affordable option!

Mina Avatar

yes i’ve been waiting for swatches of these 🙂 i think they would look great on ppl with tan to deeper skin tones. I wish you could have put a picture of your side profile but that’s okay! At least I know to write Billionaire Bronze on my list to check out. Thanks!

Do you think Tan Tint would work best for a cooler and fairer skintone? I’m on the fence, I really will need to see them in person to decide whether I really want one…

Hachi Avatar

I’m not sure how I feel about these, haha! They seem a little bit difficult to use, like it’d be way too easy to go overboard with them…especially for me with my fair skin, so I guess I’d have to say “leave it”. Billionaire Bronze looks amazing on you though!

Hi great review. I was wondering which shade you’d think is best for NC35 (possibly getting to a NC37 on summer) but can still be used on the winter time (possibly NC30).

Amanda Avatar

I have a light skin tone NC 20 but it tans really easily so it can get up to NC 30 and I was wondering if you would recommend Billionaire Bronze or Tan Tint Skinsheen?

Jady Avatar

Your lip color is gorgeous Christine! What are you wearing? I think I’ll really like Billionaire Bronze or Tan Tint! Which do you recommend?

Lotti Avatar

I’m NW25, which colour would be more suitable for cooler skin tones? On the pictures Gilty seems the one with less orange. (I tried Tan Tint and it was too warm for my skin tone.)

I think the last one looks the best, though I tan nice naturally so I don’t plan on purchasing any of these. The last few collections mac has released don’t seem to blow my mind… quite cute (and the wonder woman collection i missed out on) seemed the best. Even then… I just hope the semi-precious might be redeeming, the colours sound pretty.

I’m NW20 and I use Tan-Tint to contour. I use the edge of the stick to draw a thin line under cheek bones and use a stipple brush to blend it out and up.

I got the tan tint today, i think it smells bad like old makeup, i find it hard to blend, and it looks red on my. I was disapointed with to the beach from last yearz collection because of the shimmer but now im thinking i like it alot better then the tan tint maybe i’ll grab billionair bronze if it is simular in coulor but the reason i got tan tint was cuz i thought it was less red and matte but i find it makes me look really red. Although in all fairness i just got it today so maybe i just need to work with it more

I love, love, LOVE this product!! I went to the MAC store to buy “Billionaire Bronze” and they were sold out. I then went to Nordstrom and they were sold out as well, the sales clerk saw how sad I was and actually gave me a sample. A small dab or swipe of brush on the product is all that is needed. I actually can last the whole summer or longer with just the sample that was given, but it is a limited edition so I will purchase it online tonight!!! I used it to contour and it looks so beautiful!! Everyone has complimented me today. I just love the fact that its a bronzer with no shimmer. Just the perfect glow!!!
