MAC Spoiled Rich Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches (Archie's Girls)

MAC Spoiled Rich Eyeshadow Palette ($44.00 for 0.19 oz.) contains four shades: Pin-Up Purple (mid-tone orchid), Spoiled Rich (rich purple), Ron Ron Run (deep navy), and Gravel (charcoal).

Pin-Up Purple is a pink lavender with a barely-there sheen. It has a frost finish, but it’s the least frosted finish I’ve seen! It feels and acts more like a satin. It had good color payoff and was fairly soft and smooth. Lancome Always Fuchsia is purpler and more metallic. bareMinerals Boudoir is brighter/bolder. bareMinerals Elixir is pinker. Urban Decay Tainted is just a touch more lavender.

Spoiled Rich is a darkened, medium purple with red undertones and a dusting of muted copper shimmer (which doesn’t translate at all to the lid). It has a frost finish, but it looks very, very matte on the lid. The pigmentation was decent, but there was some sheerness. It did need to be packed onto the lid. Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet is pinker. MAC Power Boosted is pinker and more shimmery. Urban Decay Purple Haze is similar but a true matte.

Ron Ron Run is a darkened navy blue with a dusting of navy blue micro-shimmer and a purple edge. It has a satin finish, but like Spoiled Rich, really ended up looking more matte than anything else once applied. This one was stiff, dry, and a pain to use–subpar color payoff, and it did not want to blend. theBalm Kissy, Kissy is purpler. MAC Double Feature #8 is a bit bluer.

Gravel is a darkened gray with a matte finish. It has a matte finish. This shade was very powdery and dry, which resulted in sheer color. When I applied it into my crease, it didn’t want to blend as readily as I would have expected, and it tended to look dry on the skin. MAC Heatherbelles is similar. Guerlain Les Gris #1 is also similar.

I wish Pin-Up Purple was slightly lighter or more frosted, because without either or both, it tends to just disappear next to Spoiled Rich. Just a little more lightness, and it would really pop on the inner lid against Spoiled Rich–or, if the frost was turned up, you’d see a higher reflective sheen.  Pin-Up Purple was the best-performing shade in regards to both color payoff as well as blendability, while the other three lacked (to varying degrees) pigmentation and texture.  I really did not like Ron Ron Run or Gravel.  Spoiled Rich was more workable, but the right-most two shades were stubborn and sheer.  I wore all four shades together, and there was some fading after eight hours of wear (no primer).

OMG! Thank you for reminding me of this palette! It was on my to-buy list when it was first reviewed here, and then I completely forgot about it. This is going into my cart when the makeup line is relaunched 2/7!

Stila’s In The Moment palette has some beautiful purple-toned shades and it’s a great value. 10 shadows for $39.00 I think, plus it comes with an eyeliner. The shadows are great quality as well.

How sad I was looking forward to this palette 🙁 I really wish they would put the same quality of products into their LE as their permanent range, would’ve made this a definite purchase. By the way thanks to your reviews I’ve bought some amazing products! Thank you so much for your great reviews!!

What actually makes me really angry is that they don’t care about the quality of their LE products anymore, mainly because they don’t need to, they still sell out in a matter of hours (or minutes!). I don’t understand why their permanent eyeshadows are great quality and when they make a premade quad/palette they just suck.

This disappoints me because I love purples so much! I wasn’t expecting much though… Every time I try purple eyeshadows at Mac, they kind of suck (very violet looks awesome in pan, but is difficult to apply and kind of patchy – sooooo disappointing)!

44 dollars? Uh no.. I can think of some drugstore eyeshadows that would be much better than these. 44 dollars could buy a much nicer product.

I’m really annoyed that this palette has such poor quality. I love purple, but it’s so hard to find purples that aren’t too bright or muted, too pink or too blue and also have excellent quality. The first two shades in this palette seemed perfect color wise, but the quality is pretty much what I expected from a LE MAC palette.

I was really looking forward to this palette. What a disappointment. For whatever its worth, you still worked it Christine. Imagine how great it would be if the eye shadows had more payoff!

This palette is more my style than the Caramel Sundae one, but I have not gone gaga over this collection. Only awesome thing is that it’s about Archie Comics…I’ll wait till it shows up at a CCO, seriously, I bet it will…

CarlyH Avatar

I can’t help laugh at the swatch pics, you can tell from thickness etc how it goes from nice, ok good, to ugh mediocre then to, dammit it won’t even swatch properly!@?… i could feel your pain for this one ;D

Gabriella Avatar

im so dissapointed, as a huge Archie fan growing up and wanting this palette and im so bummed that it didn’t perform well. at least you saved me 44$.

Ginny Avatar

I’m so bummed. When the word was out that this collection was coming I was more excited than I’ve been in a long time for a collection and then last week when I was the images I just felt like MAC had dropped the ball. The packaging is cute but the colors aren’t at all original and there’s nothing here that screams YOU MUST HAVE ME. It could have been so much better…

L Avatar

I used this palette today and it worked out great for me! I used a primer and a maybelline color tattoo and I have no complaints it’s an awesome quad if you love purples although everyone’s different I felt that it was easy to blend and the pigmentation was good as well

Jeanette Avatar

I would have to say that I was disappointed by the Spoiled Rich palette….I think that Pin up purple is just like Dame’s Desire and similar to Stars n Rockets, Gravel is from Angel flame palette and Spoiled Rich is like Shock-a-holic……I am at the point where I am done with M.A.C and their do-overs…..

Carla Avatar

Hi christine, this palette is lovely however i do have many colours the same.

But i do like the colour MAC Pin-Up Purple Eyeshadow…can you think of any colours that match/dupe this one?

Many Thanks
