MAC Prep + Prime Highlighters Preview

MAC Prep + Prime Highlighters ($23.00 for 0.12 fl. oz.) is a new and permanent product that will release in-stores on April 7th. There are three shades: Bright Forecast (mid-tone peachy coral), Light Boost (soft yellow cream), and Radiant Rose (light shell pink). They come in a twist-up, pen-type applicator. These highlighters are designed to provide a “sheer wash of color to highlight, brighten, and perfect.” Since it is a new product, I can’t review it without actually testing it — so I ask for your patience while I spend the next day or two testing out the wear.  Please hold all questions until I’ve had a chance to actually test these out!

For now, here are swatches…

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Seriously, last night I’d dreamed about a dupe of “Touche éclat” from YSL… and now my dream comes true 😀 (I know, this dream sucks but hey, it’s now reality with this highlighter !)

cloudburst Avatar

That’s funny! I was wondering the same thing – if these are MAC’s version of Touche Eclat. I hope they can function that way.

Just today I finally picked up By Terry’s Expert Touch pen – Which is her CURRENT version of Touche Eclat (a product she created herself when she was with YSL). I’m eager to test these as well to see how they compare to the two products but at first use, I like the By Terry product. It’s not quite the same… It’s more matte finish, smoother, less runny and more pigmented (though it comes in fewer shades than the YSL product).

I know you haven’t had a chance to review them yet, but would you be able to see how they act as concealers around the eye area?? The colors look pretty!!!

I always love the products from Prep and prime line and I really have high expectations from these:) recently I thought that every brand has those pen shaped illuminators(which I have never tried to this day lol) and there comes my fav brand too:) I can’t wait for your reviews Christine, though I have already decided to love them:)

Years ago mac brought out something similar to this called studio lights. Does anybody else remember them? They weren’t that great so fingers crossed that thesemight be better

looking forward to your review =), my eyelids for some unknown reason are slightly darker than the rest of my skin tone and its very noticeable when I don’t wear e/s or concealer which can be drying, hope these are the answer to my problems!

I know you are testing them right now, but I would like to ask you what do you think about the peachy one for the dark circles, used as a color-corrector.
Don’t know… It’s just a suggestion on the trying of these new products =)

Hachiko Avatar

I had this thought as well. I know you said they’re sheer, but perhaps you could try taking pictures of it as a corrector for your review, with and without concealer on top?

Sarah Avatar

Christine, do you think the “bright forecast”(peach one on the top) would work as a apricot/peach blush on light skin??? Thanks !

Dana Avatar

It’s about time Mac came out with this. They are a little late on the Touche Eclat knock-off bandwagon… better late then never 🙂

Jazz Avatar

Wait how many collections is Mac gonna release in one day ? This is overkill Mac. We don’t need multiple collections in one day – give Christine and other bloggers a break please

Three — Primed for Perfection & Bronze Everyday are smaller launches (the latter with a lot of permanent products) and all products are permanent, then Quite Cute, which is not that large of a collection (decent-sized for sure, but it could be worse, ha!).

ill def hold off till i see your full review and grading. but i usually cant use highlighters as i have very oily acne prone skin and im already one big highlight LOL.

I love the idea of these product.. but I don’t want to pay about £15 for what is essentially less than 5ml of product.. 🙁 saddening!

this is the most excited i’ve been about a new mac product in a long time. i really love these types of products especially the pale one. looking forward to your review.

I remember MAC brought out these kind of highlighter pens years ago. They were an absoolute staple in my kit, until they were sadly discontinued. I hope these are just as good, if not better than the original.

Hopefully we get to see the review today 🙂 I am so excited lol. And I don’t think its that big of a deal them coming out with 3 collections in one day, seen as how 2 of them aren’t very big. The Radiant Rose is so pretty. And so is Light Boost. Cant wait!
