MAC Centre Stage Mega Metal Eyeshadow
MAC Peacocky: Mega Metal Eyeshadows Review, Photos, Swatches, Part 1
MAC Mega Metal Eyeshadow ($19.50 for 0.11 oz.) are a new long-wearing metallic powder with an intense metallic finish with medium-buildable coverage that is not supposed to fade or crease. This post features these five shades: Centre Stage (frosted chocolate brown), Dalliance (light champagne), Dandizette (navy with silver pearl), Ego (forest green), and Mating Call (dirty frosted violet).
- Centre Stage is a rich, smoldering chocolate brown with soft bronze metallicized shimmer. It reminded me of a cooler-toned Bronze (permanent)–maybe like Chocolate Brown pigment (permanent).
- Dalliance is a pewter gold with a metallic shimmer-sheen. As a pewter fan, it’s one of my favorite shades of the fifteen, but it’s also one of the more unique shades, too. The closest dupe I could think of was Patina (permanent), which may be a little lighter.
- Dandizette is a navy blue with soft silvery-blue micro-shimmer and subtle metallic sheen. It’s similar to Deep Truth (permanent) but seems bluer, along with the many Deep Truth dupes out there, including Star by Night (Starflash ’08).
- Ego is a medium-dark forest green with a soft gold shimmer-sheen. It’s not nearly as black as Oomph (from Mickey Contractor), and it is less green than Humid (permanent).
- Mating Call is a pinked lavender with a silvery-lilac shimmer-sheen. It reminded me of Lotusland (Starflash ’08). It’s more lilac than Stars ‘n Rockets, though (which is more fuchsia).
Buttery, smooth as silk, blendable beyond belief, and richly pigmented, the new Mega Metal Eyeshadows are easily one of the best new products I’ve seen MAC put out in the past year (if not longer). The best part about these is the consistency across the fifteen–they all have the same creamy, silky texture and solid pigmentation across the board. Though the color range is not necessarily the most unique, the formula is fantastic, which makes the quality top notch. I wouldn’t necessarily run out and buy duplicate shades, but every shade is worth checking out. I feel like it’s been too long since I’ve said that about a MAC product!
These are over double the size of regular MAC eyeshadows ($14.50 for 0.05 oz.) and are the same size as Cream Colour Bases (in shape/packaging), and the texture is richer, almost thicker in a way, than veluxe pearl finish shadows. They have some of the intensity and the pearly finish of Starflash shadows, but they stand out on their own, too.
P.S. — I have also used these wet (“foiled”) and have not noticed any wet spot left behind, but it’s only been a few hours–so I’ll get back to you on that!
MAC Peacocky launches on January 6th, 2011 in-stores across North America, January 2011 for international. The approximate launch date for online is January 4th but may not be exact. It features 15 Mega Metal Eyeshadows ($19.50 each) and 12 Kissable Lipcolours ($18.00 each). All products are limited edition.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Slightly subdued, these shades are as wearable for color-fiends and more neutral fans. There are shades that are sure to appeal to everyone, but the power of these lies in the quality–smooth, buttery textures combined with intense pigmentation, effortless to blend, and cohesive application.

Oh wow, i love Dalliance all by itself!!
This collection is going to annihilate my bank account. These are so freaking gorgeous!
i know, right?? i get paid the day after they come out and work down the street from two counters 🙁
O yeah. I’m trying to hold back even though I like all of them.
hey christine will you be doing a tutorial using these shadows i would love to see what they look like on the eye
No tutorials are planned at this time, sorry!
I am loving centre stage and ego!! can’t wait to see the rest, writing down the ones i want, i think this is going to be an expensive buy!! yikes. it would be nice if mac made this permenant.
Oh wow they are so pretty, i want all of them, are these shadows bigger than a normal MAC shadow?
Yes, they are over twice the size – the weight is always listed at the beginning of the post 🙂
awesome thanks!
I was about to say, ugh i’ve seen all these shades before, they look similar to some of the ones that MAC already has – UNTIL I saw the shimmer. I love them!!! Definitely going to play with these n check it out in the store, if they sell in my area.
Well you posting one of the ingredient snap shots since these are new? Thanks
No, not at this time, sorry – I did not take any.
How does the formula compare to Veluxe Pearl?
It’s creamier and richer than Veluxe Pearl.
Why did everyone else’s comments on the previous post get approved but not mine =/
I’m literally in the process of writing reviews and I manually approve all comments – please be patient, thank you! 🙂
Ok. Thanks, Christine 🙂
I want them all!
can we love it and lust it? wow. peacock shades are gorgeous
Can these be depotted exactly like regular mac eyeshadows?
They seem like they could, but they are larger than normal eyeshadows, so you would have to remove the insert of the 15-pan palette or else use another brand’s palette to store them.
I disagree. My SA said that these could not be depottedsince they are so soft and the pan is larger. The larger pan is more likely to bend (even the smallest amount) causing these shadows to crumble
My god, beautiful, wonderful size…
OMG!!! So beautiful! Dalliance, Dandizette and Mating Call on my list for now…..can’t wait for the next batch of shadow review and swatches!
great collors! Are the pans bigger than the normal shadows?
Yes, it is listed in the post, but these are 0.11 oz. vs. 0.05 oz., and they are the size of CCBs. 🙂
I think that they look like the Starflash shadows.
Centre Stage = Glamour Check!
Dalliance = Dreammaker
Dandizette = Star By Night
Ego = One-Off
Mating Call = Lotusland
Actually, I take that back. Spectacle of Yourself looks like Glamour Check! not Centre Stage.
These eye shadows are gorgeous, but I feel like the ones I’d be interested in are too similar to MAC or Urban Decay shadows I already own.
Gorgeous! I love Dalliance and Mating Call!
Would there be a dupe in the Urban Decay NAKED palette for Dallience? I own the naked palette already and I was thinking about picking up Dallince but i dont want any repeat shades. Thank you!
I wouldn’t say so.
Between Centre Stage and Spectacle of Yourself, which one do you think would make blue eyes pop the most? I’m trying to limit myself to no more than three (maaaaybe four) of these shadows and it’s so tough!
I would say Centre Stage!
Centre stage is my favorite…Mating Call looks more sheer when swatched than it did in the pan
Someone noted it earlier, and I’ve had questions about these in comparison to Starflash shadows. How does ego compare to one-off? They seem incredibly similar.
They are surprisingly different.
Dalliance looks very similar to Retrospeck on a first glance…
i really wish that there was less product(in weight) and the price was a little lower.i spotted the neutral shades but i dont think i will be spending that much money on eyeshadows these days.although i will be getting 2 shades for sure
How similar is it to MAC one off (starflash)
And…colourwise to Sugarpill midori?
Neither are much like it, IMO.
Thanks for purchasing these items and giving us a sneak peek, Christine! Can you tell me if Dalliance is similar to Urban Decay’s Scratch e/s or if Top of the Posh is similar to UD’s Scratch e/s (if you have those to compare the Peacocky e/s to)?
I just have Snatch 🙁
Wow this collection looks amazing!!!
Sheesh, the more I see of these, the less wowed I am. They all look like other things and the appearance does not seem that different than other eyeshadow. Also, the creamy powder texture sounds like Victoria’s Secret new single formulas – at least those colors are more unique than these though. Oh well- thanks for posting these. It is a HUGE help! 🙂
Centre stage <3
Hey Christine! thanks so much for all the swatches. I heard a rumor that the eyeshadows will also come out in pro pan form? i’m not really sure if its true. Do you have any idea if they do or not? Thanks so much.
I haven’t heard that. It wouldn’t really make sense, since these are limited edition and they would not fit in any of their existing palettes.
Hey Christine,
just wanna ask which color would you think would match a 13 year old girl for an everyday look. Centre Stage of Unflappable?
Centre Stage!
Thank you!! I was debating b/t Center Stage and Unflappable and I think I’m going w/Center Stage! Woot! =)
The eyeshadows look amazing, but a lot of the colors are similar to ones I own, so I’ll pass on most.
Centre Stage and Dandizette, yes.
Oh no. This collection is going to brutally murder my wallet…
how is MAC Dalliance Mega Metal Eyeshadow compared to Nylon. I need to buy a new Nylon but if this color is extremely close and it has more in it. then it would help me from buying so many i am on my 4th Nylon now.
Pretty different – Dalliance isn’t a yellow gold; this is more like a silvery taupe gold.
I agree – Nylon is totally different from Dalliance. Nylon is lighter and more frosty
the colors are beautiful!
I’m a little late to the posting party here but I just got Dalliance and Ego in the mail yesterday and I am wearing them today. What gorgeous hues! What gorgeous texture! What gorgeous blending! I had a chance to buy Le Metier de Beaute in Jade in San Fran this past week but wanted to buy MAC Peacocky’s new formulas instead. I prefer this one. As for Dalliance, it is sheer but buildable and I can wear it as an all-over wash or just in the crease. I have BB Pewter and it is similar but a bit more opalescent-shimmery (fantastic effect w/o being over the top!)
I really am enthused about this new formulation from MAC and I hope they bring out more of them.
I super love the colors! 🙂 But I am wondering how come the stores in our country still haven’t changed from the Tartan Collection. arrrgh… The wait is killing me!
Thanks for the great review, Christine!
I was wondering though, how does Dandizette compare to the navy blue stripe in the In the Groove eyeshadow trio Style Influencer?
It seems similar – probably not quite as pigmented as Dandizette.
Is Dalliance similar to Bobbi Brown´s Chrome Eyeshadow in Pewter?
Lighter 🙂
I bought Centre Stage today as they were just released in the UK on February 3rd, and I really did want to take a gander at the other dark brown bronzey one but they didn’t have a tester of it out, and I didn’t ask so…maybe it’s all sold out. I dunno….
Dalliance looks like Retrospeck to me in the photos. How does it compare?
It’s pewter, not gold, and Retrospeck is definitely much more gold!
