MAC Once Bitten Ice Shy, Ice Ice Baby, #Snowfilter Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Once Bitten, Ice Shy
MAC Once Bitten, Ice Shy Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) has a translucent base with flecks of silver and lavender pearl and micro-sparkle. It is described as “sheer” by the brand, which was apt. The texture was lightweight, thin, and had just enough emollience to apply comfortably, though I felt the texture of the larger sparkles slightly when I pressed my lips together. It lasted for two and a half hours on me and felt non-drying.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.
Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.
The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Once Bitten, Ice Shy
LELimited Edition. $19.00.
Ice, Ice Baby
MAC Ice, Ice Baby Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) has a warmer, pink base with cooler, flecks of lavender and fuchsia pearl that produced a soft sheen. I’d say sheer to semi-sheer, and it was buildable to a low medium coverage at most, and it felt more like a Lustre to me, but it was actually a Frost finish, so the sheerness was unexpected as a result.
The texture was lightly emollient, thin, and lightweight, and there was just a smidgen of product that got caught in my deeper lip lines (per the close-up photo, I couldn’t detect it in person). It wore well for three hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Ice, Ice Baby
LELimited Edition. $19.00.
Snowfilter
MAC Snowfilter Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark reddened-plum with warmer undertones and a luminous sheen. It is a Lustre finish, which is supposed to be “sheer.” It had semi-sheer to low-medium color coverage in a single layer, which could be built up to true medium with a second layer. The texture was lightweight, lightly emollient but not overly slippery, thin but not clingy, and comfortable to apply in a single pass. This shade stayed on nicely for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

I really like the looks and sounds of Ice, Ice Baby and Snowfilter. I like a sheer with actual pigment behind it (they work with my pale lips while seriously opaque formulas can sometimes feel like too much unless I’ve got a full face of makeup applied). That these are lightly moisturizing is a big bonus to me. I have been slowly rebuilding my lipstick collection so plan on picking at least one of these up, though not sure which I am leaning towards more at this point.
I am absolutely getting #SNOWFILTER! It reminds of a Belle or Sleeping Beauty sort of lip, and I love it!
Also love Once Bitten Ice Shy. It almost looks like TF First Frost lip balm. But way less $’s and no green-gold flip.
The only one I really dislike (rather intensely, at that) is Ice Ice Baby. It looks very dated and tacky.
SNOWFILTER looks a lot like the MAC maker shade that Hindash created. (Which I missed out on! It was impossible to get here in the US. Sold out immediately.) Does anyone have it and if so, can they confirm similarity? (It’s so hard to know without official swatches from Christine.) Thanks!
Definitely want to try Once Bitten Ice Shy , it looks like a great subtle sparkle and probably a nice topper for some of my other lipsticks.
