Continuing on the Hunt for Fall Eyeshadows

MAC On the Hunt Eyeshadow Duo ($27.50 for 0.09 oz.) contains two shades: Star Myth (bronzed violet) and Raving Mad (bronzed red).  Very fall-like with these two shades; reminded me of leaves as they change colors.

Star Myth is a coppery brozne with a high frost finish. It has a veluxe pearl finish. The color payoff was good, but it was not perfectly smooth–there was a very minor level of grit from the amount of sparkle in the shade. I did not see fall out from this post-application, though. MAC Brash is more copper. NARS California is slightly darker. MAC Mythology is browner. Urban Decay Chopper has less red/orange tones.

Raving Mad is a burnt but muted red with a little hint of orange. It has a subtle sheen in its finish, though it is listed as a frost. The color payoff is so-so; it’s definitely not as pigmented as it looks in the pan, and you have to build it up to get a decent level of color, which I suspect is because the texture is a little stiff/dry. Wet ‘n’ Wild Enter a new Realm has less orange in it. Milani Primary Runway Eyes is similar when used dry. MAC Spicy Smoke is more shimmery but close in color. Milani I Heart You has a more metallic finish but is similar in color.

The wear of both of these shades was nice; a full eight hours without primer and no signs of creasing or fading.  I didn’t experience fall out with Star Myth, which was a potential worry. Raving Mad requires more patting of color to retain some of the color you see in the pan, but it is workable. On the whole, while neither shade is a slam dunk, they both are easier to work with than the one less-stellar shade in the previous duos I’ve posted about today.

I really wish these weren’t duos, because that would eliminate half of them for me. I really would still try both of these shades, but would should I have to buy Shadowy Lady if I have it already and want the other shade. If they are going to make these LE duos, they should include shades they don’t sell on a daily basis. // end rant

Now that being said, these are 2 beautiful colors. I am in love with Raving Mad, and hope this duo doesn’t sell out before I can get my hands on it.

Looks beautiful on you, Christine. I especially like the look that includes Performance Art, Raving Mad, Shadowy Lady, and Brulé.

I was surprised by the number of items I got from this collection:
On the Hunt E/S Duo
Whims & Fancies E/S Duo
Mean & Green polish (should’ve gotten it w/Venomous Villains — would’ve been cheaper!)
Dark Diversion Fluidline
Worldly Wealth blush (a gamble, but I decided to make a departure from my usual)
Restless L/G
Ready to Roam L/G

Thanks for showing off some looks.

P.S. Did you decide to ditch livefyre altogether, or are you just using this comment system as a backup until the problem is fixed?

ITA. I’m completely confounded by the name. I was thinking maybe the violet was lost in translation in the swatches, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I don’t blame you on returning to a simpler comments software. Not worth the hassle if it’s going to be problematic. You’re already busier than a one-armed paper hanger!

Not sure if I missed it, but have you set a wedding date yet? I LOVE the Swarvoski, styled shoes. I make very intricate jewelry with Swarovski crystals. It would be Nirvana if I could swim in a pool of them!

okay i am IN LOVE with your including performance art, raving mad, shadowy lady and brule. how stunning the purple and red tones look together! definitely a look i want to try, but maybe with some tried and true shadows..maybe UD rockstar and heat? hope you have a great weekend 🙂

I know, right? Imagine me sitting here going, “Well… which is which?” Neither description was on the money but “bronzed violet” threw me. Luckily, MAC’s computer generated swatches on their website at least gave me somewhere to go off of.

I got this last Friday and I really do enjoy it. The both colors of this duo wear really well and looks really good for light brown eyes. It’s staying put w/o primer in 32 C heat plus high humidity too.

Could it be that MAC is doing some (actual) recycling with older pans? That might co- explain why some pans are so dry (Raving Mad, Indie Spirit etc). Karrie back then swatched the European Version of the Cinematics-LE, which had some different colours than the US-duos and thus you could not purchase them back then (but I think they sold us the same duos later in Europe with yet another collection…):

I remember when I bought “Look At The Eyes” from the Cinematics-LE, directly from MAC Online, it had an old batch code, like it was leftover stock from In The Gallery-Quad. ^_^
I`m posting this now because I was going back and forth over whether I should get On The Hunt after all, but now I wonder if it might contain those pans from 2011? I know that Eyeshadow won’t get bad all that fast, but I still find it strange if my theory would prove real. Anyways, I guess I’d be better off with Passionate or so, not such warm colours, but they look so pretty 😀
