MAC Nude Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Nude Eyeshadow Quad
MAC Nude Eyeshadow Quad ($44.00 for 0.19 oz.) contains four shades–two are permanent, two are new and limited edition–in a neutral-themed color combination. The quality of the quad is quite good, but if you already have one or both of the permanent shades, then it may not be the best bet to get two new shades. I could easily see this being a workhorse palette for some and redundant for others, if you’ve already loaded up on your neutral palettes.
Pink Sands is described as a “light flesh peach [with a Matte finish].” It’s a light-medium, pink-peach with a matte finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, finely-milled, and velvety. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me before fading. Dior Fantasie (641) (P, $30.00) is a cream product. Disney by Sephora Sebastian (LE) is brighter. MAC Frisco (LE, $15.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
All That Glitters is described as a “frosted champagne with gold pearl [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a light-medium, peach-copper with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had excellent pigmentation that applied smoothly and evenly. The color didn’t show signs of fading until after eight hours of wear. MAC Lorelei (LE, $19.50) is lighter. Kat Von D Killing Jar (P) is similar. Too Faced Marzipan (P, $16.00) is similar. bareMinerals Ball Gown (LE) is lighter. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #11 (P, $9.99) is darker, warmer. Urban Decay Moonflower (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Rose Cloud is described as a “soft golden beige [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium brown with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, blendable, and finely-milled without being powdery. The color wore well for eight hours when I tested it. Kat Von D Glasswing (P) is a smidgen lighter. Laura Mercier Café au Lait (P, $23.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Latte (P, $5.99) is warmer. Too Faced Milk Chocolate (P, $16.00) is darker. Too Faced Chocolate Milk (LE, $16.00) is darker. NARS Madrague #2 (P, $24.00) is warmer. Inglot #337 (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sable is described as a “cool bronze [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium-dark brown with warm, red undertones and a frosted sheen. The texture was soft, buttery, and very smooth, while it had excellent, full color coverage. The eyeshadow wore well for eight hours before it started to fade along the edges. Too Faced Cote d’Azur (P, $16.00) is less shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #2 (P) is cooler-toned. Sleek MakeUP Python (P, $9.99) is darker. MAC Pink Sensibilities #1 (LE, $21.00) is a touch lighter. Too Faced Amaretto (P, $16.00) is darker. Clarins The Essentials #9 (LE) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Her Cocoa #4 (LE, $15.00) is darker. CoverGirl Scorching Cocoa (355) (P, $4.99) is less shimmery. Clinique Ample Amber (P, $17.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

gasp, a quad has an A!! hahaha. these are really nice colours. i actually don’t have any of them!
Surprise, surprise 😀
I need this palette. Rose Cloud looks like a color from a really old MAC quad that I have been trying to find a dupe for FOREVER!!
Enjoy, Celia!
Hey name twin <3!
Have you tried mixing pigments? Otherwise, enjoy! It does look beautiful! 🙂
Argh! I do want this!!!!!! Even if I have all the nudes and neutrals already!!!!
I’m sure this one could be duped with colors from the warm Neutral 15-pan palette, and from other single eye shadows, but still… It is pretty.
I’m sure I have All that Glitters in my stash already, and I will try to dupe this look today… If I’m not successful, I will be ordering this one for sure!
I think you could, lol! That palette covers all your bases!
I actually didn’t find All that Glitters in my stash and when trying to recreate the look, I failed.
I’m getting it. 🙂
Nice set of colors! I do have both shades from the permanent range so skipping this one makes sense! 🙂
Blessing and a curse to have permanent shades included, lol!
Tis a beautiful palette. I wish they had two newer, different shades in the palette (instead of All That Glitters and Sable), but it is beautiful!
It’s nice! Will save someone money and make it an easy skip if they already have both, I think… silver lining? Ha!
I will not be picking this up..too many similar in the stash, but I like it!
It’s very dupable but works well, thankfully!
I have deep-set eyes and I haven’t figured out how to make most very dark colors work for me, so to see a palette with warm not-too-dark neutrals is great! Too bad it looks like there are enough dupes/similar shades in Naked3 that it wouldn’t really be worth picking this up.
I hope this does the trick for you!
I think this palette will be my introduction to MAC eyeshadows.
Yay!
This looks really tempting. I already have Sable in my stash, so a buy is not an option for me.
Bummer!
This might have to be my first ever MAC product! In love with Rose cloud!
Ooh, can’t wait to hear if you end up getting it!
I’m into bolder, darker and more colorful eye looks, so this is not the quad for me. But it does look like a great nude quad, and it’s great for when you just want a couple of nude shades and don’t want to buy a supersized palette with 15 different neutrals.
Good point!
Wow! These are stunning. I’m rarely ever tempted by MAC quads and especially didn’t expect to be pulled in by a neutral set. But these are particularly beautiful and look lovely on you. The pigmentation looks so clean and buttery. I might have to get this (I have no repeat shades as I have very little MAC comparatively in my collection and don’t often go for them). Looks lovely on you. I really appreciate the looks you’ve been showing with this preview series.
If you wear warmer neutrals a lot, I think you’ll love it!
I was pretty disappointed with the Kelly & Sharon quads. But this one has peaked my interest, surprisingly.
Yay! 🙂
This looks like a great every day eyeshadow palette, I can see this being very popular!
Definitely! It is a very easy quad to wear.
Is this available on the website? I didn’t see it. Maybe it’s not out yet?
May 29th
Very nice! I love neutrals, I think I’m going to get this :3
Enjoy, Lore!
Random and maybe even stupid question, can you remove the eyeshadows from the quad like a normal palette? Or are they glued on the quad.
Nope, they’re glued in!
So happy to see a decent quad from MAC… Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be picking it up, it’s not diverse enough (none of the shades seem light enough to highlight for my skin tone and the darkest shade seems too frosty for a crease colour) and I already have far too many neutral palettes, I’d never reach for it =(
I’m sure there will be another quad that will be a better fit for you 🙂
oh man, All That Glitters is my “no-makeup” workhorse shadow that i wear almost daily. i’m scraping the last bits out of the corners of the pan now and this is perfect timing to restock and add a couple complimentary shades. glad it got a good review, MAC has been so hit & miss lately!
Perfect match for you then 🙂
Well, goodbye money. It was nice knowing you.
LOL! 🙂
Lol @ “cool bronze.” No such thing, MAC.
Great palette! Too warm for me, but a great set of summer nudes.
Haha! 😉
Sable is a favorite of a lot of people.. ill check out the permanent version in store.. this palette is perfect but I rarely go for palettes so.. pass!
Thank goodness it’s available individually!
I’m trying not to need this… but I think I’m gonna need this. 🙁
Awww!
Lovely! I love the shades, perfect for women like me who don’t use much crease shades (I have deep set eyes).
It would work well on you, Judith!
For that price, (it’ll probably be $50 CDN), it’s just not special enough or unique enough and I already own Sable and All That Glitters so this wouldn’t be the best purchase for me.
Definitely not. And knowing you, I’m sure you have dupes!
Not loving Pink Sands, but the rest are rather gorgeous. I thought Rose Cloud was Kid or Wedge at first glance
At least you like three of them, though I think you have to love all four at this price!
What a great subtle quad. I think it’s a bit warm for me but it will look divine on many.
It should!
I don’t have any of the shades in the quad, but I do have the LORAC Pro which already has a good chunk of neutrals… is this one going to be worth picking up in addition to that palette (perhaps even based on size alone)?
It really depends on how often you wear neutrals – the more you wear them, the more useful this one might be, but if you hardly wear LORAC Pro, no need.
Good point.. thanks, that helps!
Christine, will the limited edition eyeshadows be sold as a pan?
MAC does not sell limited edition in pan form!
When is this available?
May 29th online
What a great basic palette! This would make a great small neutral palette for travel. Won’t be buying, though, I already have All That Glitters and Sable and I’m sure I have something very similar to the other two in my collection.
More than likely! It’s a nice quad and set of colors, but easy to dupe and anyone with a fair number of neutrals probably has it covered!
I’m def getting this palette no questions asked.. The more neutrals the better for LOL. I do win all that glitters but I hit pan on it so this is perfect. Thanks Christine!!
Oh, that works out perfectly then for sure!
I mean own. Sorry..
How does this compare to Tom Ford’s trio last fall with the pinks?
Very different!
Really pretty,
Happy you l iked it!
This one seems too good to pass… A straight A! Wow
It was impressive!
From you initial swatches, I was quite all over this quad. To see that it got the coveted A and Temptalia recommends, I’m on my way as we speak!
Yay! Glad it works out!
Surprisingly wonderful quad!
haha! Definitely!
I always tend to use All that Glitters (in the single) with Buck from my Naked1, but this is an inconvenient combination when I travel since I only use Buck from that palette. Is Rose Cloud similar to Buck, or even MAC’s Soft Brown? I was contemplating getting Soft Brown as a crease colour for travel but a quad would be even more convenient. Thanks! 🙂
Buck is darker with a yellower base! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=166030&dupe=114460
Soft Brown is darker and redder! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=166030&dupe=105807
I’m so glad this one turned out well and didn’t suffer from that weird ‘great permanent but rubbish in the LE’ phenomenon! The look you did is pretty 🙂
Me too!!
A Mac quad that gets all A’s?? :O that is a keeper ladies and gentlemen!! besides, I have none of those eyeshadows 😀
Haha! 😉
I have all that glitters. and it is a great everyday color. Sable has been on my radar. I returned the Naked3 palette from the Sephora VIB sale because the colors were too cool or too light to show up! This might be a good way to get basic rose gold shades that are all wearable. In the palette they do look very similar, but I know there is a big difference between all that glitters and sable. Wish they would put their palettes in reusable containers, so that when the limited edition color is used up you can refill the palette. It really would be good business decision, because one someone owns a palette, they feel obligated to refill it, so sales of single pans would likely increase. Anyways, I’d love to see this in the store to make my decision. I’ve been doing a lot of internet shopping, which means a lot of returning, very stressful!
I agree! I just don’t know why it’s important to them to make them glued in.
If I didn’t have All that Glitters, one of my favourite shadows from MAC, by the way, I would probably have bought this one, I do have a lot of nude palettes, though so I’ll skip it. I might have to visit the nearest MAC counter to get Sable, though.
It is a really cute palette, I think it’ll sell out quickly.
Sable is a good permanent shade 😀
Christine, are you only wearing the colors you duped? I am thinking about this quad but my skin medium with a yellow to olive base. I got Naked 3 for mother’s day and I have been disappointed because it feels like there is no color pay off. I’m not generally a neutral girl but would like neutrals that look good on my skin tone.
Hi Tammy,
I’m only using the eyeshadows in the quad!
Gorgeous quad! Does it compare to any of the UD “Naked” Palettes?
Not in the sense that it is one-for-one, but if you have all the Naked palettes, you don’t need this.
I do have all three. I was wondering if there is one of this quad that could match on the Nakeds. N3, maybe? I’m going for a job interview on Thursday, and this is a great look!
I think it’s probably closer to N3 than the others, as it is more mid-tone!
Awesome. Thanks!
christine i don’t comment at all but you do GREAT work on this site….awesome review. keep it up 🙂
Thank you so much, Kelly! xoxo
Christine, what colors did you use for this look?
All four eyeshadows in the quad!
This.. oh.. this.. I am so, SO getting this!!! 😀 Never gave in to any nude palette since the nude craze started ages ago.. but THIS!!!!! In love.
YAY!
Think this could be duped with Naked 3?
Yes, I think you can get a similar look out of N3!
Oh, this is definitely coming home with me! Such gorgeous shades! Love the whole collection! x
Yay!!
I am in love with this quad, but I already own a couple of these shades.
Aww, bummer!
Wow when I first saw the collection I wasn’t interested in any item but now I feel like I need this quad!
Very lovely indeed and I’m glad to read the quality is good overall. Thanks for the review! 🙂
No problem, Veronica!
Wow. a decent quad from Mac? Totally given up on mac quads that I usually don’t give them a second look cause I know the quality just won’t be there but I’m actually kinda excited for this 1. Probably wouldn’t have bothered checking it out if I wasn’t reading this blog too so thanks for all the hard work you do and all the fast reviews 🙂
I was thinking of getting a nude palette, would you recommend me getting this or the Too Faced Choc Bar palette instead?
The Chocolate Bar will have a lot more options for you! There are just so many neutral palettes out there now 🙁
Hi!
How would you compare to Naked 3 palette? Do you think we could skip this if we already own a Naked3?
I think N3 is lighter in general, and I don’t think there’s really one-for-one overlap, but you can get a similar look out of N3, even if it isn’t the *same*.
I know I already have All That Glitters, and probably Sable- but, I was wondering how close you think this quad is to the Bare Minerals ready palette from QVC- the one with nude beach in it. I bought that palette too, and the colors seem close. Thank you so much!
I don’t really think they’re similar, but they’re both warmer neutral palettes.
I’ve always wanted to get all that glitters, I don’t have any of these shades. The only MAC shades I own are my own custom quad which has cranberry, naked lunch, soft brown & vanilla. I think I may splurge on this…
Enjoy 😀
All of the colors are pretty but I wouldn’t buy this as a palette. With brown skin this would be like wearing a bunch of highlight colors. None of them is deep enough to give me any definition, for example in the crease or at the outer corner. I don’t generally buy any palette where there is little variation in the depth shades because it limits versatility.
I totally understand!
Christine, do you think this quad will work for darker skin tones? Im a NC50 in SFF and 177 Cognac in MUFE.
Btw new user, long time reader here 🙂
I think it would, but it will be a subtle look. More every day, does that make sense?
Thanks for commenting! 😀
These are my kind of colours! I just got this and I love it, I’m very happy with the quality too!
Your review was very helpful in deciding whether to go for it or not, thank you 🙂
Thrilled you’re loving the quad, Liesbeth! 😀 Happy to help!
