MAC Nude Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Nude Eyeshadow Quad

MAC Nude Eyeshadow Quad ($44.00 for 0.19 oz.) contains four shades–two are permanent, two are new and limited edition–in a neutral-themed color combination. The quality of the quad is quite good, but if you already have one or both of the permanent shades, then it may not be the best bet to get two new shades. I could easily see this being a workhorse palette for some and redundant for others, if you’ve already loaded up on your neutral palettes.

Pink Sands is described as a “light flesh peach [with a Matte finish].” It’s a light-medium, pink-peach with a matte finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, finely-milled, and velvety. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me before fading. Dior Fantasie (641) (P, $30.00) is a cream product. Disney by Sephora Sebastian (LE) is brighter. MAC Frisco (LE, $15.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

All That Glitters is described as a “frosted champagne with gold pearl [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a light-medium, peach-copper with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had excellent pigmentation that applied smoothly and evenly. The color didn’t show signs of fading until after eight hours of wear. MAC Lorelei (LE, $19.50) is lighter. Kat Von D Killing Jar (P) is similar. Too Faced Marzipan (P, $16.00) is similar. bareMinerals Ball Gown (LE) is lighter. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #11 (P, $9.99) is darker, warmer. Urban Decay Moonflower (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Rose Cloud is described as a “soft golden beige [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium brown with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, blendable, and finely-milled without being powdery. The color wore well for eight hours when I tested it. Kat Von D Glasswing (P) is a smidgen lighter. Laura Mercier Café au Lait (P, $23.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Latte (P, $5.99) is warmer. Too Faced Milk Chocolate (P, $16.00) is darker. Too Faced Chocolate Milk (LE, $16.00) is darker. NARS Madrague #2 (P, $24.00) is warmer. Inglot #337 (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Sable is described as a “cool bronze [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium-dark brown with warm, red undertones and a frosted sheen. The texture was soft, buttery, and very smooth, while it had excellent, full color coverage. The eyeshadow wore well for eight hours before it started to fade along the edges. Too Faced Cote d’Azur (P, $16.00) is less shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #2 (P) is cooler-toned. Sleek MakeUP Python (P, $9.99) is darker. MAC Pink Sensibilities #1 (LE, $21.00) is a touch lighter. Too Faced Amaretto (P, $16.00) is darker. Clarins The Essentials #9 (LE) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Her Cocoa #4 (LE, $15.00) is darker. CoverGirl Scorching Cocoa (355) (P, $4.99) is less shimmery. Clinique Ample Amber (P, $17.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I need this palette. Rose Cloud looks like a color from a really old MAC quad that I have been trying to find a dupe for FOREVER!!

Argh! I do want this!!!!!! Even if I have all the nudes and neutrals already!!!!

I’m sure this one could be duped with colors from the warm Neutral 15-pan palette, and from other single eye shadows, but still… It is pretty.

I’m sure I have All that Glitters in my stash already, and I will try to dupe this look today… If I’m not successful, I will be ordering this one for sure!

I’m into bolder, darker and more colorful eye looks, so this is not the quad for me. But it does look like a great nude quad, and it’s great for when you just want a couple of nude shades and don’t want to buy a supersized palette with 15 different neutrals.

Wow! These are stunning. I’m rarely ever tempted by MAC quads and especially didn’t expect to be pulled in by a neutral set. But these are particularly beautiful and look lovely on you. The pigmentation looks so clean and buttery. I might have to get this (I have no repeat shades as I have very little MAC comparatively in my collection and don’t often go for them). Looks lovely on you. I really appreciate the looks you’ve been showing with this preview series.

So happy to see a decent quad from MAC… Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be picking it up, it’s not diverse enough (none of the shades seem light enough to highlight for my skin tone and the darkest shade seems too frosty for a crease colour) and I already have far too many neutral palettes, I’d never reach for it =(

oh man, All That Glitters is my “no-makeup” workhorse shadow that i wear almost daily. i’m scraping the last bits out of the corners of the pan now and this is perfect timing to restock and add a couple complimentary shades. glad it got a good review, MAC has been so hit & miss lately!

I don’t have any of the shades in the quad, but I do have the LORAC Pro which already has a good chunk of neutrals… is this one going to be worth picking up in addition to that palette (perhaps even based on size alone)?

What a great basic palette! This would make a great small neutral palette for travel. Won’t be buying, though, I already have All That Glitters and Sable and I’m sure I have something very similar to the other two in my collection.

I’m def getting this palette no questions asked.. The more neutrals the better for LOL. I do win all that glitters but I hit pan on it so this is perfect. Thanks Christine!!

I always tend to use All that Glitters (in the single) with Buck from my Naked1, but this is an inconvenient combination when I travel since I only use Buck from that palette. Is Rose Cloud similar to Buck, or even MAC’s Soft Brown? I was contemplating getting Soft Brown as a crease colour for travel but a quad would be even more convenient. Thanks! 🙂

I have all that glitters. and it is a great everyday color. Sable has been on my radar. I returned the Naked3 palette from the Sephora VIB sale because the colors were too cool or too light to show up! This might be a good way to get basic rose gold shades that are all wearable. In the palette they do look very similar, but I know there is a big difference between all that glitters and sable. Wish they would put their palettes in reusable containers, so that when the limited edition color is used up you can refill the palette. It really would be good business decision, because one someone owns a palette, they feel obligated to refill it, so sales of single pans would likely increase. Anyways, I’d love to see this in the store to make my decision. I’ve been doing a lot of internet shopping, which means a lot of returning, very stressful!

If I didn’t have All that Glitters, one of my favourite shadows from MAC, by the way, I would probably have bought this one, I do have a lot of nude palettes, though so I’ll skip it. I might have to visit the nearest MAC counter to get Sable, though.
It is a really cute palette, I think it’ll sell out quickly.

Tammy Avatar

Christine, are you only wearing the colors you duped? I am thinking about this quad but my skin medium with a yellow to olive base. I got Naked 3 for mother’s day and I have been disappointed because it feels like there is no color pay off. I’m not generally a neutral girl but would like neutrals that look good on my skin tone.

Wow when I first saw the collection I wasn’t interested in any item but now I feel like I need this quad!
Very lovely indeed and I’m glad to read the quality is good overall. Thanks for the review! 🙂

Mimi Avatar

Wow. a decent quad from Mac? Totally given up on mac quads that I usually don’t give them a second look cause I know the quality just won’t be there but I’m actually kinda excited for this 1. Probably wouldn’t have bothered checking it out if I wasn’t reading this blog too so thanks for all the hard work you do and all the fast reviews 🙂
I was thinking of getting a nude palette, would you recommend me getting this or the Too Faced Choc Bar palette instead?

Genna Avatar

I know I already have All That Glitters, and probably Sable- but, I was wondering how close you think this quad is to the Bare Minerals ready palette from QVC- the one with nude beach in it. I bought that palette too, and the colors seem close. Thank you so much!

L Avatar

I’ve always wanted to get all that glitters, I don’t have any of these shades. The only MAC shades I own are my own custom quad which has cranberry, naked lunch, soft brown & vanilla. I think I may splurge on this…

TJ Avatar

All of the colors are pretty but I wouldn’t buy this as a palette. With brown skin this would be like wearing a bunch of highlight colors. None of them is deep enough to give me any definition, for example in the crease or at the outer corner. I don’t generally buy any palette where there is little variation in the depth shades because it limits versatility.
