MAC Midnight Dip & Oysterized Lipglasses Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Midnight Dip
MAC Midnight Dip Lipglass ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and multi-colored pearl. It had semi-sheer coverage that applied evenly but settled into every single lip line I had (and made me think it might have shown me some I didn’t even know I had!). The settling didn’t seem to worsen over time, but I think that had more to do with the fact that it already filled every line possible from the start. The texture was smooth, light-medium in weight and thickness, and moderately tacky, so it had a plusher feel on my lips and had better-than-average wear time (five hours). The formula was hydrating, too, so perhaps this shade would work for those looking for something to layer over deeper lipsticks rather than to wear it on its own.

Formula Overview
$21.00/0.1 oz. - $210.00 Per Ounce
The Lipglass formula is supposed to be “pigmented, very shiny and can impart subtle or dramatic color” that can be worn “on its own, over lip pencil or lipstick” and will “condition lips.” MAC could use an update on the description as some shades are more pigmented than others but several are sheerer and likely intended to be that way. The formula has a very glossy, high-shine finish with a light-medium weight and moderate tackiness.
I have found that newer Lipglasses (over the last couple of years) are smoother and not quite as tacky as the formula was many years ago. They wear from three to six hours on me and are usually lightly hydrating. MAC recently updated the shade range and packaging for the range (though the formula was said to be unchanged), so worth noting is that with that packaging change came a reduction in quantity to 0.10 fl. oz. (was 0.17 fl. oz.), which may matter for some but not everyone.

Oysterized
MAC Oysterized Lipglass ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) has a pale, white gold tinted base with lots and lots of light white, silver, and gold pearl and slightly larger sparkles. It had medium coverage–more in the sense of shimmer than actual color from the base coming through–that applied somewhat evenly. There was a milky quality to the base that did get into my lip lines, but the shimmer and high-shine finish made that less noticeable from afar. It lasted for four hours and was hydrating while worn.

What a same because Midnight Dip is a beautiful color! Your plum makeup colors are very nice!
Oops *shame*
These both would be really pretty over a lip pencil or lipstick.
I just knew from the preview swatches that these two Lipglass shades in particular weren’t going to cut it. Midnight Dip could’ve been such a cool one, if it wasn’t so noticeably lip liney. But, I have Fenty Astro-Naughty, so I’m good. Still wish this had been better, though.
The first shade is pretty, but overall these are not good.
Is Oysterized a resurrection of Oyster Girl that came out years ago? Loved that lipglass!
Oyster Girl still exists – this is a separate shade.
Glad that your redo of reviews includes the formula overview. Zero lipglasses=total ignorance. Now I understand the concept behind them.
I wonder if Midnight Dip replaced the MAC Oversexed lipglass.
Midnight Dip is gorgeous *sigh*
