MAC Smoky Thrillseekers Pigments/Glitter Set
Pigments: Blue Brown, Dark Soul, Jigs & Jive, Naked; Reflects Blackened Red
MAC Smoky Thrillseekers Pigments/Glitter Set
Each pigment/glitter set includes four pigments and one glitter, each contains 0.09 oz. of product, according to the tin. The five glass vials are housed inside a tartan-decorated metal tin, and there is a plastic insert that keeps them standing together, but it’s removable, should you desire. I did find it curious that there were no inserts regarding uses (e.g. what’s eye/lip safe) in any of the sets, though.
This set includes: Blue Brown (deep brown with frosted green/blue reflection), Dark Soul (charcoal black smoked with gold), Jigs & Jive (naked taupe), Naked (fleshy beige with golden copper pearl), and Reflects Blackened Red (sparkling burgundy).
- Blue Brown is a medium-dark brown with a strong teal reflective base. It’s very much a duochrome, and it is also similar to Club eyeshadow—just much, much more intense. It is a permanent shade.
- Dark Soul is a smoldering charcoal gray with silver sheen and flecks of glitter. I never see the gold in this shade myself. It is a permanent shade.
- Jigs & Jive is a softened tan brown with a champagne sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade to this set. I would say it’s similar to Tan pigment, which is permanent.
- Naked is a soft, warmed up peach beige with subtle gold sheen. It makes for a great highlighter. It is a permanent shade.
- Reflects Blackened Red is a darkened red-burgundy base with flecks of burgundy glitter and sheen. It is a permanent shade.
I think the pigment sets are a good value, and they’re always worth a peek if you’re into loose color or pigments. You’re getting 0.45 oz. of product for $32.50, while a single, full-sized pigment contains 0.15 oz. of product and retails for $19.50–essentially, this is $60 worth of pigments/glitters.

- Product: 28/30
- Value: 10/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 4/5
RECOMMENDATION: This set contains four permanent shades and one new shade–which may be a bummer for some. Jigs & Jive is probably close enough to Tan that you could skip this set if you have Tan, though.

I already got most of them so I think this kit is not worth buying it!
blue brown looks really weird, don’t think I’ll ever use that
Hey Christine! I was wondering, is there confirmation of any stores actually releasing these today? So far I’ve only seen reports of stores releasing them on the 11th, and I called both the free-standing store and Nordstrom counter in my area, and they both said the 11th.
Thanks for the swatches!
Hey Maggie,
All the stores/counters I called said the 11th, but when I tweeted about it last night, a few readers said their stores confirmed the 4th!
Thanks for the info! So weird – I wonder how/why they ended up with mixed release dates.
I know the press release I have says the 4th, which is the information I went by, but I think I remember that the 11th was the original date… either way, I’m not sure why we don’t have a definite date yet!
Oh my gosh! this is pure love! Im trying to save my money but I think this is a must. I just hope I use them I hardly use the pigment set I got last year.
Hey Christine! I just went to the MAC store in CherryHill Mall New Jersey and bought all 3 sets! I absolutely love them. When I went in though they didn’t have them on display and I had to ask about them. They said the 11th till I mentioned every website I read said the 4th, they double checked their book and confirmed today. My friend and I bought all 3 and went on our merry way. NOW THE FUNNY PART!! We get home and open them, mine in perfect condition, hers not so much. The “Gold Mode” pigment in the Warm Thrill Seekers was completely busted and exploded all over the tin. It appeared as if the glass was melted off half way because the top of the vival was still stuck in the cap. Just a tip that those who do get them, double check they’re all in perfect condition before leaving the store because we now have to drive back in the pouring rain to exchange it for another!
Wow thinking about getting these…
couldn’t seem to find these on nordstrom.com– any idea if they’ll be there eventually?
Yes!
Hmm, I already have Naked and I could get Blue-Brown any time I wanted, since it’s permanent. They should make these sets a little more special, in my opinion. Although I like the alternative in size, because I don’t think I’d ever get through an entire bottle of pigment!
This is a must-have for me because I don’t have any of these pigments and Naked has always been on my list. I like to wait for the holiday sets to get permanent shades. I only buy full-size pigments when they’re limited edition because I’ll never use up the full-size jars. These colors are gorgeous!
Nice colours!
I have never used pigments before and have also wanted to try them. Would you consider this a good set to start with? Anything else to go with it? Thanks alot!
Yes! 🙂
What happened to the love it/leave it buttons?
Anyways.. Jigs&Jive is to die for! *drool* Will probably get the set just for that color.
LOVE Dark Soul and Jigs & Jive.
*gasp*
*faint*
Must. Have. Those. Pigments.
blue brown looks out of this world…amazing!
Blue Brown reminds me of Roach by Urban Decay. It looks cool, but I think I’ve only used Roach once in 2 years.
That’s always the hard thing for me with makeup. I want it because it looks cool/is pretty, but then I have to think would I really wear this often or at all. I think I would use the majority of these often though.
I am sooo excited for this set as I don’t own any mac pigments…. it’s a great introduction at a great price 🙂
This is my favorite thing from the whole collection…. I really like Jig & Jive, so I might pick this up.
Hrm…these are tempting. Good price, and I do love Blue-Brown. Plus I’d probably wear all these colors. But…meh I don’t really need it.
I’ve never tried MAC pigments, but I might put this on my Christmas list. 🙂 Very pretty colors.
Does anyone know if Blue Brown pigment is similar to Too Faced Label Whore e/s in color and pigmentation? I’ve swatched MAC Club e/s too, and that didn’t seem as pigmented as Label Whore. I was going to get Label Whore this weekend, but I might just wait to get this set.
Is Reflects Blackened Red like the other pigements but with more glitter?
It is very similar to Label Whore! 🙂 It’s just as good in terms of pigmentation, though.
Reflects Blackened Red is a glitter!
blue brown made me look like i was punched in my eye and it was red. swatched on your hand i see the red. i have seen this color swatched on blogs where it is the most beautiful blue green. my daughter tried it. she had the same red effect. it was awful. i returned it. we are both nw20. i just do not understand how this color can look different on certain people.
I think perhaps try them as eye liners?
Blue Brown kind of looks like Formidable! in pigment form, heh.
Loved Blackened Red.
very nice swatches 😀 i defiantly try to get this and the other pigment kits
Hi Christine,
I heard that the glitter pigments arent eye-save and that one could even risk blindness. Do you know if this is true and how could one use these glitters alternatively then?
Thanx, Jasmin
Glitters can be used in the hair, lips, body, nails!
wow this looks absolutely amazing cant wait for it to be out in the uk!!
Oh!! Love them!! I have one only… but I don’t mind selling it lol
Your blog is WAW!! Love it… Thanks for sharing all this!!
Thank you, Sarah!
Wow, stunning! Thanks for the swatches!
Blue Brown looks like a warmer version of Burmese Beauty.
It’s much prettier than Burmese Beauty, imo!!
Am I the only one who thinks blue brown pigment is the ugliest, most unflattering color ever?
I picked this up because I have never had a mac pigment before, and I am pumped about having a play with these. From a starter’s perspective it’s got a good range of shades that I will definitely be able to wear. It’s a bargain too, $65 Australian and full sized pigments are $39.
So how would you recommend wearing these colors? What goes where? I’m makeup challenged, hehe
Eyes! 🙂 Try using them wet!
I am wondering which one of the pigments are safe to use on the eyes and which ones aren’t? thank yous so much!
Your set should include a safety sheet if there are any restrictions.
