MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection: Pigments Review, Photos, Swatches

Brash & Bold Pigment

MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection: Pigments

The talented photographer Marilyn Minter was inspired by MAC’s glitters and pigments. From her portion of the Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection comes two Reflects Glitters (Copper and Rust), two Glitters (Gold and Fuchsia), four pigments (Cocomotion, Brash & Bold, Heritage Rouge, and Push the Edge), as well as Gloss Texture in Clear.

Pigment ($19.50)

  • Brash & Bold is a velvety, deep fuchsia-red with subtle fuchsia-purple sheen. If Bright Fuchsia and Pink Pearl pigment had a baby, this would be it.
  • Heritage Rouge is a dark, cranberry-burgundy frost. It’s incredibly pigmented and goes on smooth. It’s one of the best pigment textures to date. This was a previously released shade, so be sure to check your stash to make sure you don’t already have one.
  • Push the Edge is a deep blue-based violet purple with soft shimmer/sheen. It reminded me a lot of Entremauve pigment but bluer, not quite as plum. The textures are even similar, as this one is a bit chalky (though not terribly so).
  • Cocomotion is a rich shade of antique gold with a bit more brightness than your typical antique gold. It’s one of my favorite shades of pigments (again, check your stash before buying), because it’s extremely smooth, rich in pigmentation, and is a dream to work with.

  • Product: 9/10
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 8/10
  • Packaging: 8/10

Recommendation: I think both Brash & Bold and Push the Edge pigments represent two shades we don’t often see MAC putting out. While neither is necessarily absolutely, positively original, they’re both pleasant surprises. Cocomotion and Heritage Rouge are also exceptional shades, and it’s good to see them make a return, at least for a limited time.

I didn’t think I’d want anything from this collection, but I’m definitely getting Heritage Rouge, Push the Edge and Cocomotion. So pretty. Anyone knows when this collection is released in the UK?

I’m so glad to have Cocomotion already since that color is really pretty! Heritage Rouge and Brash & Bold are calling me! I love pigments! I’m glad that I ordered Push the Edge pigment yesterday.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW BEAUTIFUL BRASH & BOLD IS IN PERSON…I WASNT GOING TO GET IT AT FIRST BUT WHEN I TRIED IT ON I WAS IN PURE BLISS..LOL..THE COLOR LOOKED A LITTLE ODD FROM THE PICTURES BUT NOW THAT I HAVE IT I DONT KNOW HOW I EVER LIVED WITHOUT IT..I JUST MIGHT GET ANOTHER 1.I ALSO PICKED UP PUSH THE EDGE AND COCOMOTION…LOVE THOSE AS WELL

I picked up Cocomotion at the CCO today, woo hoo! I didn’t get it a few months ago when they had it, and I’ve been kicking myself ever since, so as soon as I spotted it, I knew I had to have it. Unfortunately as I was swatching it onto my hand, I knocked it on to the floor. I felt SO bad, and the women there were so nice about it. They talked a lot about the other things that have spilled, and how much worse they were (perfume, black nail polish, etc.) . . . I was so embarrassed though!

I have to get Push the Edge pigment because I love purple but can’t decide if I should get Cocomotion since I already have a good amount of gold eyeshadows.

I’m so disappointed in push the edge, it does not look like on your swathes, in real life it’s dark Claret matte color with little shine, and i can’t give it back. I didn’t check the color in store, just bought it….and at home…. it was so sad.
I know it’s my fault, I should test it before buying, it will be the other unnecessary thing from 1000000…

Thank you for your helpful advice! I didn’t think it would work, but using it wet is really good, pigment looks closer to your swatch, I think I will use it for smoky, the eye shadows from this collection are difficult to apply too, I mean specific structure, but I put a white pensile on my lids as a base and than the eye shadows, the color looks brighter than in the box.
Anyway this collection is so colorful, no matter than 1 pigment is a little bit dark for me, but it’s deep and beautiful it’s a fact.
