Midnight Madness Mineralize Eyeshadow
MAC Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Review: Mineralize Eyeshadows
Every MAC holiday color collection sees an introduction of new, limited edition mineralize eyeshadows. This year is no different. With six mineralize eyeshadows, each with a crescent of some glittery concoction, MAC really wants to make sure you get your mineralize fix for the year.
I will say that these are some of the smoothest, most pigmented mineralize eyeshadows (this doesn’t include the “crescent” shade, though) I’ve played with to-date. These don’t have to be used wet in order to get decent color pay off, so that’s a huge plus in my book. The crescent pieces are, in my opinion, terrible, because they’re just gritty glitter. Like last year’s trios, I find the crescent portion a let-down.
- Midnight Madness is a cool-toned dirty black-taupe with lighter silver sparkle and a crescent of glittery gold.
- Under Your Spell is a cool-toned, silvery-purple. This one was fairly light in color, but it has a really nifty sheen. The crescent is a glittery copper.
- It’s a Miracle is a rich, jewel-toned purple with golden shimmer combined with a crescent of glittery gold (looks the same as the shade in Midnight Madness to me).
- Blue Sorcery is an intense shade of medium green-based teal with softer green shimmer. It reminded me of an old holiday shade, Tease ‘n Teal, actually. It’s stunning. It’s matched with a crescent of glittery silver.
- Devil-May-Care is a medium purple with a silver sheen and cool tones. It’s nicely pigmented, but I think you could dupe this with one of MAC’s existing purple eyeshadows. The crescent portion is glittery silver.
- Mayhem is a rich copper-bronze with a high sheen/frost finish. It’s like Amber Lights and Woodwinked had a baby. The crescent portion is glittery silver.
I wish MAC would have done away with the crescent portions or had made it the same texture/feel as the larger shade. I just can’t imagine dealing with the inevitable fall out the glittery crescents will have. My top picks would be Midnight Madness, It’s a Miracle, and Blue Sorcery.

Thanks for swatches Christine. I’ll be passing on the mineralize eyeshadows, they are just not my thing and the glittery”ness” especially…it never tends to stick and I land up look like a disco ball after an hour 🙂
although Blue Sorcery Mineralize Eyeshadow is lovely i will be passing on these! gr8t swatches\ x
Thanks! 🙂
Haha, no problem 🙂
Blue sorcery and Devil may care are very pretty, I will stop by mac tonight.
These are the ones I like too..I’ll have to try them tonight! Thanks for the swatches!!
Xo
Those were the two I liked as well. Too bad they both have the same color crescent 🙁
I love Blue Sorcery too and Devil may care can totally be duped with Beautiful Iris perm e/s. I would love to buy these but the glitter just turns me off – I bought them last year and still haven’t found a use for the glitter part…and I Love Glitter….lol
I actually love Blue Sorcery, and Devil-May-Care is also in my good books! Have to try them out though when they ar realeased in the UK! Comments on any of these?
I don’t know know I feel about these shadows right now. I’m in no hurry to run out and get them…yet.
Thanks for the fast work! They’re pretty in the pot, but I don’t like the texture of glittery eyeshadow at all. I’ll pass on them.
No problem, Luna!
I’m definitely getting these, although shame about the glittery crescents, would have been better to have smoother texture. But I’m still getting them because I love mineralized stuff. 🙂
I loved the larger shades but the smaller sections are just too gritty. I did pick up a few, may go back for blue sorcery.
I like the larger portion of these. I ordered blue sorcery, and I’m going to pick up it’s a miracle, and midnight madness tomorrow.
The only unique one is Midnight Madness….I have have too many copper, purples and teals in my collection to get the others…lol
Blue Sorcery is amazing!
i want them alll!
Blue Sorcery is the only one I want. Gorgeous! Thanks Christine!
Blue Sorcery is hot! I may pick it up:-)
You are absolutely right absolutely right about the glittery part of the shadow. If it was the same texture as the rest of the shadow I would get all of them. I ended up getting just the Under Your Spell shadow because it seemed to me like both sides were well pigmented. Devil may care is a beautiful color but it seems like a lot to pay 20 for one basically one eye shadow, the glittery part is impossible to use. Same goes for Mayhem and Blue Sorcery. I was really looking forward to this collection and I’m disappointed with the shadows. I ended up getting just one eyeshadow and one lip stick.
I agree — why am I paying $20 for just ONE usable shade while the other is terrible?
I just have to have Blue Sorcery O_O
Christine, I know you don’t feel well and I want to thank you for working so hard on this site. This was a huge undertaking on any day let alone on a day you need to be resting.
I’m going to pass on these. I agree with the glittery crescent. I’m not a fan.
Aw, thank you so much, Carrie 🙂 If anything can get me out of bed, it’s MAC!
Oh man, Blue Sorcery is really pretty but I’m not sure I’d pay that much for a single eyeshadow…. =/
Your 3 picks are the ones I’m buying tomorrow and did put aside yesterday! You are right about the fall out of thje glittery side. I’m thinking I’m going to use the glittery part mixed with a mixing Very disappointing unless I become creative with it. I’m thinking to use the glitteryu side with some mixing medium or with the gel that is used for glitter (that I purchased not long ago). We shall see how it works out!
Let me know how the mixing went… I just hate that they’re so gritty. I feel like they’re worthless!
This is not directly related to these specific products, but does anyone know when the next Family and Friends sale will be for MAC? I was in the hospital this pass one in June and missed out 🙁
I’ve seen a couple people comment on previous posts that there will be another sale in January. I don’t know for sure but I hope so!
Usually it’s in early January. I’m starting a list… 😉
Probably not for awhile… I’d say earliest would be Spring. They might do a special sale on just holiday products, though, in January.
When I saw Blue Sorcery, it made me go O_o!!!! I want! Then I swatched it and the glitter. The glitter made me mad. I couldn’t spend $20 on an eyeshadow where 1/3 of it was a hot mess. Oh well, $ saved that I can put towards mini pigment sets =)
I just swatched these myself the other day and they are a LOT creamier and smoother than their mineralized e/s from previous lines. Seriously! The smaller circle part of the e/s is SUPER chunky though — I wouldn’t recommend using it. Reminds me of glitter from kindergarten. The moon shaped part is nice. I’m thinking about a few of them but I don’t know! Btw, you can also trade in 6 B2M cases for a mineralized e/s — such a good deal.
That’s exactly how I felt! Like “WOW!” at the first half… and then “WHAT?” at the glittery mess part.
going to pass on these. I want to see what the palettes look like though.
just wanted to let everyone know toofaced is having a vintage sale until the 25 and you can get 20% off by using the code TFSU (you can use that code at any time..ive used it 3 times so far) …shipping is 5.95 on all orders not the usual free shipping with 50$ purchase.
Thanks!
The chunky crescents are definitly a turn off
oh my gosh these are all SO gorgeous! i want them all!!! u could use the glittery side to layer on top of eyeliner which is perfect for the holidays!! 🙂
i got midnite madness and its a miracle. can’t wait to use them!
i hate the crescent part too!! the colored parts are so smooth that you get tricked into thinking the other part will be great too
i like the devil may care one but not the silver part
It’s A Miracle and Blue Sorcery look SO prettyyyyy >.<
going to have review for the palettes colours? 😀
Yes!
I’m getting bored with mineralize e/s, they have come up with quite a few this year. I like the colors of Midnight Madness and Devil-May-Care though so I’ll be checking them out.
The only one I really like is blue sorcery… Even with that I don’t think that I will be buying it though!
I bought it’s a miracle and midnight madness. The colors are gorgeous. While I do think the glitter is a bit much it did find that is you foil and and use just a bit of it over another shadow it can be quite pretty. Probably not an everyday thing but for a special occasion it would be nice.
I got Blue Sorcery and Midnight Madness today. I LOVE the texture and pigmentation of the non-crescent part. A little dab of Rosebud Salve and the crescent part sticks perfectly for me 🙂 So great for the holidays!
Great suggestion about the rosebud salve kpenn!
I didn’t know of this blog until the end of last year. I wish I had known about it earlier because I bought these mineralize eyeshadows and am very unhappy about the cresent part. If only I had known!!!
Any other suggestions on how to use the cresent shadows?
I’m such a sucker for purples, so I’ll probably end up with It’s a Miracle, but I’m skipping the others for sure.
I got one today, blue sorcery. Today I just had on indianwood paint pot and lined my eyes since a bad storm came through and the lights were out. Didn’t want to do anything to fancy. Anyways, tried it on and it looks gorgeous. I’m glad I got it. I like certain mineralized, they can be really fierce. Especially the style black collection. Those u had to wet up but Blue Sorcery u don’t. I just dabbed the silver glitter on top of the blue and it added a beautiful sparkle like look. I may pick up Devil-May-Care later.
I don’t know why they did that chunky glitter for the small crescent again this year. It didn’t fly with the majority of people last year either. Hmm. The only way I was able to use it is lightly patting it over the eye shadow I had on. It certainly does not work on its own, nor as a base shade and definitely not as a highlighter!
I am digging Blue Sorcery, Devil-May-Care and Mayhem. 🙂
UGH, tell me about it! WHY OH WHY! I just want to know!
i wonder if blue sorcery is similar to nars misfit?
Kind of, but it has more shimmer.
Hi, does anyone know how the bluish shade in Blue Sorcery compares to Teal pigment pls?
Similar, but a little darker and not as frosty.
Great swatches! The mineralize shadows always look so pretty in pictures! Some of the color crafted ones and past collections were nice, without much fallout. But after the Style Black MES’s I am going to pass on these. Those were such a mess!
Do you think think that midnight madness is a dupe for earthly ritches?
Mine just arrived yesterday, I only purchased blue sorcery. I have nothing like it. I am very eager to use it. This is a beautiful color. I have to pick and choose with Mac because they are really bad about finding a way to dupe a current color.
The “glitteriness” (if that is a word :-S) is definitely not for everyone but I like it. 🙂 I don’t mind a tiny bit if glitter fall out either. I’ve noticed when I apply glitter it tends to fall below, onto my cheekbones, so it just looks like a nice sparkly highlight… great for nights out!!!
I agree with the glitter part of these shadows- I tend not get them but these colors are gorgeous. I may just skip not using the the glitter portion especially since I wear contacts, I don’t the bits falling in my eye. I limited myself to 2 purchase though: Midnight Madness and It’s a Miracle. I love these two and can’t wait to try them.
i picked up under your spell
I’ve just bought Devil-May-Care since I’m a huge purple fan. I agree with everyone about the silver/glitter part, I’m a bit disappointed about it not having much of ‘staying-power’ however I do like the shimmery/glittery effect….Does anyone have any tips for that and giving it a bit more of an intense effect?
I’m going back tomorrow for Blue Sorcery. I’m excited to see what that one will be like after reading everyone’s rave reviews for it. =)
besides using a primer i used a color base, for example for midnight madness i used a purple base before applying the e/s which i sprayed with fix+
Great swatches!
I was wondering if MAC Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Mineralize Eyeshadows are more pigmented than Mac Color Craft Mineralize Eyeshadows? cause they look really similar
Thanks Christine.
I think they are!
LOVING blue sorcery. But I don’t think I would wanna spend 22 bucks on it just because 75% of the product is pretty and actually usable, while the 25% is useless. Do you have an idea of any close dupes for the teal side of Blue Sorcery?
Try Shimmermoss!
Christine, I noticed in your review that you said It’s a Miracle looked more like Midnight Madness to you but in your swatch it was a beautiful, golden purple. I decided to buy it based on your gold/purple swatch and I’m regretting that now because it does look like Midnight Madness which I’m not crazy about at all! I swatched it on my hand and can’t figure out how yours came out purple because mine just looks like an ugly brown, not even a dark taupe. I bought it on ebay so I’m stuck with it. Very disappointed with MAC on this! I almost didn’t buy it because I agree on the weird chunky glitters but I loved the golden purple in your swatch. So confused!
