MAC Here Comes Joy Opalescent Highlighter Review, Photos, Swatches

Here Comes Joy
MAC Here Comes Joy Opalescent Highlighter ($34.00 for oz.) is a soft, coppery gold with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had medium, buildable color coverage–up to semi-opaque using three layers–with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that felt almost cream-like, as it had a bit of denseness and had a velvety feel. The highlighter applied evenly to the skin, blended out without trouble, and did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading. It was a nice highlighter overall, though it wasn’t as pigmented as described by the brand.

The packaging looks cool AF but I somehow expected the actual powder to be opalescent as well… h’mm… I mean, it looks nice but is not nearly the most shimmery/sparkly/jewel like highlighter I’ve ever seen.
I’m not entirely sure that MAC’s choice of “Opalescent” is really the best name for the formula (even in the past)!
I think the embossing on this highlighter is really pretty. it is too dark for me to use but would suit many. I think my daughter could wear it but I just bought her the Becca Apres Ski Glow Face palette and I think she will be good for highlighters for awhile.
Hope she enjoys her Becca palette!
Too bad it doesn’t have an actual opalescent shift, or for that matter, glow! When I swatched this at that MAC event, I was left stumped by the more satin-like finish and lack of *something* that would affirm their description.
Even the compact is festive. I like it but have way too many highlighters.
It looked really beautiful in the pan and thank goodness it rates quite well. Love that lipstick too.
Love the stunning packaging and snowflake embossing! The swatch isn’t quite wowing me, but I’m hoping I can use as a subtle highlight/powder to warm up the face
Darn, this looked from the pictures like it would suit fairer skin well and then I read coppery, haha. Mine is coming today, we’ll see what I can do! Got the eyeshadow in Stylishly Merry yesterday, OMGGGGG, haha. Thanks for your hard work during this busy season, Christine!
Probably the best packaging MAC has ever done, I mean… just look at it!! Unfortunately, I don’t want anything from the collection. I love like WOG, so much that I have two already…. well maybe I should call it one and a half since one is in the copper face compact from last years holiday collection. And was planning to get another WOG because the packaging and embossing is just too pretty! But then I found it was in a set and I’m not gonna pay like €20 for some shitty brush. I really wish that this and the other opalescent highlighter were more shimmery/metallic because I would’ve bought them in a heartbeat.
Cute!
What lipstick are you wearing in that last photo? Thanks!
