Thank Goodness for Grey Friday

MAC Grey Friday Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “black matte with silver suede pearl.” It’s a charcoal black with multi-sized silver shimmer and micro-shimmer. The finish is not quite matte, but it’s not glossy. It has that suede-like finish MAC was hinting at. China Glaze Stone Cold has less shimmer. MAC Military is similar but more matte and has less shimmer. Nubar Midnight is the closest, as it has a higher shimmer content than the other two shades I mentioned, but it, too, has more of a matte finish.

This polish was actually very, very good. It was fully opaque in two coats, though almost opaque in a single one, and flowed beautifully across the nail. The consistency was just right without being thick or thin, and I didn’t have any trouble with streaking, bubbling, or polish pooling on the edges. It was, quite frankly, one of the best consistencies I’ve seen MAC put out. It wore seven days on me without chipping, but I will be the first to point out that very nearly nothing chips on me. I had minor tip wear, a little more than average, but not by much.

How pretty! I saw the polish and was weary because I wasn’t sure that it was unique and because of the horror stories I’ve heard about MAC polishes. I may have to give this a look if it’s still around.

I really like this one. It almost looks as if you put down a black base and then silver glitter polish over the black. I should have picked this up when I had the oppurtunity. Oh well.

A MAC nail color worth the price! Color me impressed! In an unrelated note, Christine, I dreamed that you were a famous actress that made a movie about being a beauty blogger. It was a huge hit! This is what happens when you check in with a blog before bedtime…

I’m so glad you swatch stuff and have this site. I saw a swatch that MAC put out for its grey lipstick and they enhanced it so much it was ridiculous. Anyway, thank you Christine! This polish s pretty, but I have a similar color. It looks lovely on you. 🙂

looks like it might be a dupe for two of my faves: OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous or Wet & Wild Fergie Heels of Steel. Maybe it’s got a little more sparkle…love it, though!

This is absolutely stunning!!!! It reminds me of Butter London’s Chimney Sweep, though the latter is less silver and shimmery. If this one wasn’t LE, I would totally hunt it down. Wowzer!

Christine, when you test polish for wear, what sort of rigor do you put it through (ie, washing a sinkful of dishes every night, doing/folding laundry 2-3 days a week, swimming daily, etc)? I’m just curious if you get such great wear-time doing the same things I (and many others) do on a regular basis.

I don’t take any special care or precautions for my nails, but I certainly don’t do laundry 2-3 days a week (we do laundry once every other week or so), swim daily, etc.! I wash some dishes but not all of them. I open jars, cans, scratch stickers off of things, packages (and break them down), etc. with my nails throughout the week, but I couldn’t give you a specific number of times since I just go about my daily routine/life with no regard on whether if I’m wearing polish or not. I do light cleaning, light cooking, play with the dog, wash the dog, things of that nature. I’m on the computer 6-12 hours a day, and when I’m not, I’m eating, sleeping, taking photos, or putting on makeup. You could consider me as someone who has a desk job, but I don’t go around wear gloves all day or anything. 🙂

hm… it reminds me of sephora brand ones. those dried VERY quickly and have special consistency (are different when you touch the surface of the nail) but are hard to remove. I think those are still available if you want to check and compare.

I’m not crazy about this shade but it’s nice to see MAC actually put out a quality polish. I still don’t know if it’s worth $16 though.
