MAC Glitter & Ice Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Glitter & Ice Nail Lacquers ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz. each) include three limited edition shades for the holidays. These will hit stores on October 27th, 2011, but luckily I was able to snag the collection through an unveiling party (had to find a store that would ship to me!) to get swatches and photos for you.  The three shades are: Unconditionally Fabulous (super sparkle white), Festive Finery (dirty mid-tone greyed violet), and Get Noticed (true bright red).

  • Unconditionally Fabulous has multi-colored glitter with both circular and hexagonal shapes suspended in a clear base. The consistency is fairly thin, so you could feasibly do three coats of it, though I did just two for swatching purposes. It’s just like China Glaze Snow Globe (to be reviewed) and similar to Deborah Lippmann Stairway Heaven.
  • Festive Finery is a grayed purple with a cream finish. It was opaque in two coats, and it was really easy to work with–no trouble with this one. China Glaze Below Deck is less purple and lighter but much purpler and lighter compared to Chanel Paradoxal.
  • Get Noticed is a darkened medium red with blue undertones and a cream finish. I used two coats and had opaque color. The formula was nice on this one; flowed evenly and no bubbling. It reminded me of MAC Obey me but darker–more like Rescue Beauty Lounge Glamourpuss.

Compared to the last batch of MAC polishes, these are much, much better. I feel like I’ve seen shades like Unconditionally Fabulous several times this holiday season, so while it is very pretty and fun for layering, it seems rather dupeable. I would say the same about Get Noticed, as it is a clean red, which most brands have done and continue to do. Festive Finery is the most unique out of the three. I typically get a week of wear with minor tip wear with MAC’s polishes.

While it’s nice to hear that MAC has upped the quality, the colors are ones to skip. I basically already have Unconditionally Fabulous and Festive Finery, and Get Noticed is just boring (sorry, reds and Johnny Weir!).

Don’t quote me (because I’m not Christine), but of lipsticks in the Temptalia’s swatch gallery, Illamasqua Kontrol and MAC Faultessly F/W look most similar. Kontrol is too light, blue, and saturated; Faultessly F/W is too dark and saturated and was limited-edition. Try mixing OCC Lip Tars or Sleek Pout Paints!

Revlon has lipsticks in the plums collection that are similar. there are various shades so if you like lighter or darker or brighter they should have something to suit you. plus it’s affordable and smooth on your lips.

Hi there Christine. I don’t know where to post this, so apologies for this being somewhat irrelevant to the topic. I was wondering where the overall recs/summary of the fall 11 mac collection were? I loooove your summary pages and am hoping that I am not just being stupid and have missed it somewhow!! Thanks.

I wanted Stairway to Heaven badly, but I haven’t been able to get my hands on it (unless I want to pay a ridiculous price on eBay), so Unconditionally Fabulous is a great alternative. It looks so pretty in that bottle w/ the white cap.

I just bought MAC’s Fatigues yesterday for $15, on their website it still shows $15 for nail polish. I really really hope it’s just $16 for these three or else I might have to go back before the 27th just to grab Vintage Vamp before it goes up a dollar…

Michelle Avatar

$16?!?!? That’s more expensive than Butter London. I don’t understand how in such a short amount of time, MAC has raised their nail polish prices by $5. Ridiculous.

I’m pretty sure Wet n Wild has a polish like Unconditionally Fabulous…I think it’s called Hallucinate? It may not be hex glitter like this one, though, but the color is the same.

Christine, which do you think would be a better buy for quality purposes, Unconditionally Fabulous or China Glaze Snow Globe? I can get Snow Globe for fairly cheap because of my beauty supply discount but I have fallen in love with Unconditionally Fabulous. What would you say is a better buy?

I’m a little disappointed with these colors, especially unconditionally fabulous. I thought it would be a creamy shade with glitter… :/ I think MAC can (and should) do better than this…
