MAC Technakohl Liners

MAC Technakohl Liners ($16.00 for 0.012 oz.) are supposed to have a “soft and creamy” formula with “intense, rich colour deposit” while being long-wearing (specified as eight hours) and smudge-proof. Most of the shades had a waxier consistency, so while the eyeliner would feel soft and glide decently, it doesn’t deposit color evenly, and often, color payoff was lacking–even when layered. These don’t seem to be as soft or as intense as many other Technakohls I’ve tried in the past (but some of the limited edition varieties have been less impressive). The wear varied from five to eight hours, depending on the shade, but overall, they seemed to wear shorter than most eyeliners on me.

MAC Funfare Technakohl Liner ($16.00 for 0.012 oz.) is described as a “bright true pink.” It’s a brightened, medium pink with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff in a single stroke, and it was easily built up to opaque color in two layers. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Broque Technakohl Liner ($16.00 for 0.012 oz.) is described as a “deep brown.” It’s a dark brown with warm undertones and lighter bronze and gold shimmer. It had a waxier consistency, so it didn’t apply evenly and didn’t build to opaque color. It wore well for six and a half hours before looking softened. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Plank Technakohl Liner ($16.00 for 0.012 oz.) is described as a “deep bronze brown.” It’s a medium-dark, warm bronze brown with a pearly sheen and gold sparkle. It had semi-opaque color payoff in a single stroke, but it wasn’t buildable. In fact, I felt like layering it dragged the color around and made it appear uneven. This shade lasted for seven hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC $$$ Technakohl Liner ($16.00 for 0.012 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone gold bronze.” It’s a muted, medium-dark gold with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted sheen and gold sparkle. It had sheer pigmentation in a single stroke, but it was buildable to semi-opaque coverage, at least. It lasted for six hours on me before it looked softened/faded. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Brass Band Technakohl Liner ($16.00 for 0.012 oz.) is described as a “copper bronze metal.” It’s a golden copper with warm, yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff in one stroke, and it was fully opaque after two layers. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Twinked Technakohl Liner ($16.00 for 0.012 oz.) is described as a “yellow gold with sparkles.” It’s a brightened, medium yellow gold with a frosted sheen and gold sparkle. It had semi-sheer color payoff in a single pass, which was somewhat buildable to semi-opaque coverage. It wore well for six and a half hours on my lash line before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I’m interested in that pink one, because I think it would emphasize my green eyes. I wonder if it would be nice or if it would just make me look sick, LOL!

Kellyn, if you have any lip liners to play with, give it a try first! I swear by pinkish colors for my greens! I like to define the inner top tightline and just beneath the lower lashes with colors like this! (Also bottom waterline) And then use a white type of choice for bottom lash lid area, tear ducts, and upper lash line for brightening! A thin black line up top (liquid) really pulls it together and greens look Aqua, sea foam and shining! One of the easiest things I’ve worked with, though mine was a lip liner.. But I’m thinking of this as well as you! Hope that helps! 😀 xo Lotus ~

I wouldn’t suggest using lip product near your eyes, especially on your waterlines. There are different ingredients in eye vs. lip products, lip ingredients not necessarily being approved as safe in the eye area. If you have sensitive skin/eyes like I do, it’s a risk I wouldn’t be willing to take.

Oh, absolutely not! This was a loner that could be used either way. If the product does not say it is unsafe, which is required due to things looking identical, than I’ve no problem and I’m very sensitive. Some are marketing scams, it’s important to know the formula! Thanks, Kaytlyn! 🙂

My eyeliner was a mini body shop nude pinkish color, and never bothered me. I also never found that sample again but I used it up! FYI I AM PALE… Very pale. And I had black hair at the time but it’s worked with all hair colors. Seriously, I really hope you can find some sort of color like described to play with! You will look beautiful! 😀

I used to use a lipliner closely resembling “funfare” for my waterline! 😀 it looked most natural there as well as below my lower lashes. I may end up with this little ditty! Or just stuck another lipliner up there.. FYI: I always had a long liquid black cat line on top with white pencil above it and on the side to define it, and swooped it down over tear ducts and massaged lower lid.. So the pinkish thing did work wuite well for top and lower water line. 😀 (with this look)

Funfare is neat – I’ve had my eye on a bright pink liner for a while, but kind of wanted something less bright and more matte than Woodstock. Dammit! Why did it have to be MAC! 😛 The others are a bit of a sad mixed bag… how do you mess up a gold eyeliner? Brass band is quite nice, but $$$ needs to be much better…
