MAC Fabulous Felines: Burmese Beauty Review, Photos, Swatches (Eyes)

I’m going to break each section into two parts — eyes and lips/cheeks. There are a lot of products, and I definitely want to focus on each part of the collection, it’s hard to digest so much in just one post. I’m working as fast as I can to get all the photos and swatches up, and I’ll fill in with more dupes as I find them.  I am missing a few pieces, and I will update the post and review once I’m able to purchase them.

Burmese Beauty Eyeshadow Quad ($36.00 U.S. / $43.00 CDN)

  • Prized is a soft nude beige with pale white micro-shimmer with a satin finish. It reminded me of a much more pigmented Shroom.  This will work well as a highlighter on light to medium skin tones, but it may be more of a light lid color for darker skin tones.
  • Skintone 2 is a slightly neutralized gold with a frost finish. It’s not a cool-toned gold, but it doesn’t have really strong yellow undertones either. This is a shade of gold that can be worn by both warm and cool skin tones.  It’s a lot less yellow compared to Goldmine (and not as frosty).  Maybe like Flip from Spring Colour Forecast. This is a repromote from Makeup Art Cosmetics.
  • Burmese Beauty is a duochrome of teal and red-based deep brown with a lustre finish. It doesn’t actually feel like a lustre to me–it’s much smoother, not so glittery like your typical lustre. This is very much like Blue Brown pigment except less intense (the brown base isn’t as strong, nor is the metallic finish). It’s a lighter, more pigmented version of Club eyeshadow as well.
  • Showstopper is a dirty, cool-toned dark matte brown. It works well when used with a brush in actual application, while it doesn’t swatch very well. This shade has been repromoted at least a half dozen times in the past five years.

Superslick Liquid Eye Liner ($17.50 U.S. / $21.00 CDN)

  • Desires & Devices is an antique gold with a dirty olive base and a mixture of green and gold shimmer.
  • Defiantly Feline is a medium-dark brown with deep gold and amber shimmer. It looks rather medium brown when used lightly and thinly.
  • Treat Me Nice is a medium grassy green with gold and green sparkle.

Pigment ($19.50 U.S. / $23.50 CDN)

  • Antique Green is a darkened cool-toned green with a touch of teal. It’s definitely green, but it’s not your typical green, which tends to have stronger yellow undertones.  This is a repromote.
  • Gold Stroke is a reddish medium bronze brown with a frosty finish. It’s pretty, and it has some warmth to it, but it’s not overly warm. It makes a nice base for golds. This is a repromote.

I agree, it’s a gorgeous colour but I couldn’t care less for the rest of the quad…I’m waiting to hear if there are any dupes for this colour 🙂

CeeBee Avatar

Actually the bottom left hand shade in the Dior Mystic Jade quint is pretty much a bang on dupe for Burmese Beauty. Which doesn’t really help if you don’t wanna buy a palette… but last I saw it was on special on Strawberrynet.

April Avatar

I actually wasn’t very interested in this collection but after looking at the Burmese Beauty quad swatches, I have decided to pay more attention to it. The quad just looks like you can do an appropriate work look but still be able to vamp it up when you want something more dramatic. Very pretty, thanks for swatches and photos.

Amanda Enn Avatar

I agree. I think the pigments stand out to me the most, but I wished they had more eyeshadows…
I was really excited when the MAC mua told me this collection would have a lot of neutrals, but after seeing these, I probably won’t be purchasing anything from this collection.

Christine, how come you only did a swatch of 2/4 of the pigments? :/

Kelly Marie Avatar

I was looking SO forward to this palette that I signed up for an event because I was having nightmares that it would sell out…now I’m bummed because I have Shroom, Club, Flip, and TWO Showstoppers. But you have no idea how much I appreciate your reviews! You rock Christine!

Melanie Avatar

oh, I love the quad 🙂 So beautiful!!! Thank you so much for sharing, Christine! Your blog really helps a lot and a plus to me is, that the collections are launched in the US first, so I can def check the swatches first, before ordering something, when it’s launched here 🙂 Thanks for your hard work 🙂

Ani_BEE Avatar

Thank you for taking the time and money to swatch these before the launch!

I was worried about Burmese Beauty e/s would be similar to Blue Brown pigment and Club which I have both of. I own Showstopper as well so there is not point in getting this quad. T-T

TG Avatar

Skintone 2 is an exact dupe for Club, isn’t it?

I don’t really see anything except maybe that green eyeliner. I’m wondering if it dries to a shiny finish.

DaniMarie Avatar

Hi Christine, Hmm maybe I’m seeing things today lol wait the goldish color is Skintone2 and Burmese Beauty is the darker grey/green color rt? In the pic where you swatched them on your hands it says Burmese Beauty under the gold color unless my phone is messing with me =)
P.S. What you do is great..I always look on your site when I’m interesting in buying something..thanks!

Michelle Avatar

So far I only really like the Treat me Nice superslick eyeliner, because the packaging of Defiantly Feline looks way more purple than it does on the swatches you’ve made. I liked the purple, but it looks more gold to me now. Still a nice collection though. There’s something for everyone, really.

Jackee Avatar

The colors are so pretty, but I have so many similar colors since I am quite the makeup junkie. I will probably pass on this collection and save for the holiday stuff.

daphne Avatar

Showstopper AGAIN. Maybe MAC is trying to tell me I need it or something, but I’m pretty sure I don’t with Brun eyeshadow in my collection! Burmese Beauty is a really pretty quad, but the eponymous shadow looks too much like Club to me, so I guess I don’t really need it.

KC Avatar

I thought burmese beauty would be more green, but the swatch is gorgeous! That quad is offically on my must have list. I also like Gold Stroke pigement, even though it looks way more chocolatey than gold.

Jamie Avatar

Burmese beauty? Check. I think I want all the quads from this collection but I will need to see the rest of them first. Thanks for the swatches!

victoria Avatar

everything looks great but i’m particularly interested in the superslick liner, are they waterproof or resistant? i love the corresponding packaging.

Suzy R Avatar

Wow — I wasn’t expecting to like these as much as I do! I was wondering if you know if the eye shadow colors are available individually, or only as a quad? Thanks!

Amy Avatar

I’m so glad you are reviewing these now-thank you!!!! Lovely job as always—I LOVE when you talk about the texture of the eyeshadows–meaning, Lustre, Veluxe Pearl, etc. It’s so helpful. Also, is Antique Green a repromote? For some reason I thought it had been out in Rush Metal but I’m not sure. Many thanks!

Haylie Avatar

Repromote? I’ll snatch is then before it’s gone. I doubt I’ll even finish it though lol. I wish they sold like half sizes for half the prince. Marketing strategy, stupid MAC. It looks like it’d be a beautiful eyeliner!

The Beauty Queen from Mars Avatar

I got to admit, I was really excited about this collection, but the more I see of it, the less excited I am. Burmese Beauty are just not my colors, I will see what the others are like. But it suits me quite well – I fell in love with the Chanel Enigma Eyeshadow Quad (just about to be released in Europe), so the less I like about the Felines, the better for my wallet!

Thank you so much Christine, for putting up the posts and swatches of the collection at lightspeed – you are doing an awesome job there! I rarely buy a MAC product without checking out your blog first!

Anitacska Avatar

I really like Burmese Beauty e/s, but not enough to buy the whole quad. Also Antique Green, but luckily for me I found it in the CCO on Monday, old jar as well, for just over £10! 😀

Dusty Avatar

that DOES look a lot like club or blue brown! funny… thanks for the swatches! do you think you’ll do a review on the new liquid liners? since they are a new product? or just leave it at the swatches?

JenniferJ Avatar

How do you think the ‘Burmese Beauty’ single color in the quad compares with Too Faced’s color called ‘Label Whore?’ I’m thinking they look VERY similar? Thanks!

DJ Avatar

wish Burmese Beauty was a single, would love Club to be even more CLUB, if you know what I mean.

The pigments are pretty close to NARS ‘Blade Runner’ duo, perhaps close enough to be dupes.

thanks for the great swatches and reviews. this collection is huge and interesting…

Haylie Avatar

Ooo Antique Green pigment looks beautiful. Might be my first. 🙂
I don’t like quads b/c I usually only like one, if I’m lucky, two colors. It’s just a waste of money.

Tammy Avatar

If I already have the UD Naked palette, is it worth it to get the burmese quad?? I’m already planning on getting kittenish/media…trying to save some moolahs! Thanks Christine!!

Megan Anderson Avatar

I saw a preview collection at my local Saks counter, and the makeup artist swatched club, and burmese beauty on my hand. The difference was that burmese beauty had some chunky glitter in it. I was definitely disappointed that they wouldn’t be a bit more creative with that color.

puffnstuff Avatar

aaahhh… i wish mac would sold these shades in singles; i see 1 shadow from each quad that i would want, butof course im not going to buy a quad for 1 shadow…ugh

Karyn Avatar

Hi Christine! I got the Desires and Devices superslick eyeliner, and I do love the color, and love that it stays on all day. HOWEVER, it seems to irritate my eyes all day while I wear it. It feels like it is pulling on or is tight on my eyelids. Also, it is difficult to remove at the end of the day, and I find “scraps” left over on my eyelids after I remove it, and pieces in my eyes the next morning. Have you heard of anyone else having these problems? Also, do you know of any similarly long-lasting eyeliners that might NOT have these effects? Thanks as always for your gracious help and WONDERFUL website.

Christine Avatar

I didn’t experience any tightness/pulling, though I could understand why you might as it does dry down to this skin-tight kind of finish (like pants so tight you aren’t sure how someone ever got them on, lol). Have you tried MAC’s Penultimate? I find it a bit similar, though it’s only in black, and it has a different texture/finish – so it shouldn’t set and feel tight.

In general, felt-tip eyeliners (of all kinds, many brands have them!) seem to stay on really well (for me!).

Thank you!
